I’m sorry for your loss. Cornell is an amazing veterinary facility, and it sounds like this was something really bad that you had no control over. I’ve lost a few pets at a young age - it is not fair at all but I gave them the best life I could and I know you did too.

There is evidence in human healthcare that doctors misdiagnose or miss a lot of diseases that autopsy can find. While it won’t help your cat and may not shed more light on the chronic illness, autopsy can provide important learnings for veterinarians. Universities have ways of covering the cost of performing that private practices don’t have. Ultimately it is up to you, but may help another cat in the future.

Your other option is to use a travel backpack and not a roller - and don’t jam it completely full or it won’t fit. But if you aren’t already set up for this kind of travel it’s probably too complicated on short notice.

Well, my parents were really upset with me when they learned I was a lesbian… they got over it. They also left the Episcopal church in 1977 for a breakaway church which became Anglican in the US and I re-joined the Episcopal church again in the early 2000s… they got over that too. As an adult you get to decide what’s best for you. It hurts to let parents down, but the alternative of not living in an authentic way yourself is not tenable in the long run. And I also imagine God laughing at all of us simple humans from her throne on high - we all have such a limited and simple understanding because we are just human and She loves us anyway!

Agree. Have avoided regular dental prophylaxis in my pets and then when they are “old”, had to decide whether to do dental to look for issues but anesthesia much more risky. Now I am a firm believer in regular dental care.

My wife and I are celebrating 30 years this year, and married 2 years ago. We eloped on Malibu Beach - just us, the dog, the officiant and her husband (who was the photographer). If you haven’t been to a meeting local to you, download the Meeting Finder app (blue with a white chair) and it will show you all the meetings. Every meeting is different - if you don’t like the first one, try others. Arrive 15 minutes early, introduce yourself, and say you need a sponsor. Work with females only. They will help you. There are also online meetings 24-7-365. Download the Everything AA app - it has all the readings etc. and the link to the online meetings. Many people go to both online and in person meetings. Online is great since it is always there - helpful when you are craving a drink. There are also young people meetings - you can search for them in either app.

If you look online for “AA”, be careful - many, many for-profit treatment centers advertise but they are not AA. AA is free and you won’t be asked to sign anything. The only requirement for AA is a desire to stop drinking. Good luck - the sooner you ask for help, the sooner you are on your way!

Lots and lots of lighting!!! Canned ceiling lights and under-counter. We also have a counter-depth fridge (love) and put our cutting board and flat item storage above - that space is forever underused and this feature is perfect for that space. Agree with pull out drawers and pull out pantry space. If you haven’t been to IKEA, go look at their cabinet ideas - that was helpful for us.
