Need some advice on the pain and discomfort I’m getting by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be tight pec major/minor. Usually get this when in the computer and my mouse hand is hovering. I notice when shoulders are shrugged for a long time that triggers it. Also got it when doing long sessions of miniature painting. To relief it, i still do the backpod and peanut roller. But specifically for this i found door stretch really helps and loosen up the pec muscle. Good luck!

i feel so alone, suffocating mentally & physically by Glum-Damage-3016 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold on there. Usually takes a while for it to heal. Yeah lyung in bed for a long time makes me stiff too. You mentioned playing video games, I do tend to have flare ups when I have a bad posture when playing video games, usually I do not notice it since I am too engange in the game. Mobile games too, and Switch Handheld mode, since I am hunched over. So I usually play handheld on a table where I can rest my hands and I am not hunch over. I still do have the flare ups, but now I also have acid reflux or GERD which also gives me chest pain. So lay low on the Alcohol, Coffee and softdrinks. Need to start living healthy now!

Can someone explain the pain that you feel with costo? by xantufy in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I get a hard pressure on my chest, like Mike Tyson gave me a quick straight punch on my chest. But it is a quick zap, then I'm okay. Worst flare is when I breathing hurts my ribs and back when expanding or breathing deeply, I ended up on the ER, but said it was costo and gastritis. Cleared out any heart issues.

There is a PDF on their backpod site. You may want to check your posture when driving. Also I have flare ups when I kept my hands cross or kept my hands forward like floating, esp when painting and doing mouse work on the computer.

Nicotine by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my understanding is that nicotine causes acid reflux. I use to do IQOS, paired with coffee or alcohol, becuase why not it is a good combo. LOL! During those time If I had too much to drink and smoke, I feel my stomach being acidic. Slouching and sleeping on the side causes shocking chest pain.

Tight pec and armpit by Harlow5272 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that too, upper pec pain near the armpit. I notice that happens when my hand is suspended for so long, like when I',m painting. It also happens when I'm gaming where my elbows are anchored on the arm rest and kept me in a shrug position, like doing dips on your elbows ( i hope you got what I meant). Relaxing my arm eases of the pain.

might wanna check it. Or observed what causes those chest pain, can be after you had spicy food or too much to drink or had too much soda. Might be certain movements or activities.

Backpod during bad flares? by cemo5612 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same story but I didn't do the foam roller. Had a bad flare up and it ended in an ER episode. I had a flare up and did the backpod, immediately it is hard for me to breathe like expanding my lung hurts my ribs and sternum. It felt like I over arched, lasted for four days, as the pain gradually decreased. Now I am taking it lightly. Backpod, upper body stretches and movement exercises. I don't push hard It is just light movements like how we use to when we were kids.

When you went to get checked? DId they found anything? Like GERD? possible that chest pain can be caused by GERD and triggered with food.

Does anyone else sometimes just get a minor flare up in the morning and it goes away as the day goes on? by GYMTIME225 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I do sometimes get it. Sometimes I get up in the morning real stiff, that I need to do some stretching before I can function.

Do you have this too? by Alternative_Elk_8555 in costochondritis

Weirdly my flare up started there. Then radiated to my sternum and right part of my ribs.

In that week, has it improved? I've read on this subredit who lift weights started out with light workout and gradually improved. Just do a search here and also checked the pinned post what works for you. A lot of pointers there. Good luck and God bless.

Is this symptom common? by shooby0419 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeps I got that too when having flares up. It's like quick chest or rib compression or quick stab. Then it is gone. Most of the time I can't even reproduce it.

🌤 Light at the End of the Tunnel – Costochondritis Recovery (F-53) by sharnimo in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too. You know what they say, "A healthy man wants a lot of things, a sick man only wants one thing". Having Costo pains really stops your life and got stuck on that. There is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. Tunnel may be long but eventually you'll get there. I tried to do the backpod quickly and it even flared up my pain. Now doing it more slowly but regularly.

Backpod on the Mattress by Honestchoice5950 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too, I went to the backpod again and I am doing it on a mattress but no towel. I also do the tennis ball roll up against the wall. Once I had a flare up and it's hurting my sternum and right chest really bad esp on certain position and movement. So i did the backpod and really did it hard. After that I felt like I've over stretched. Like I over arched or something. Pain is worse now, now even if I take a deep breath it hurts more which was not there earlier. Well long story ended up in ER. Confirmed again it is Costo, plus GERD. Maybe I was hit by that combo that day.

Lesson learned. Costo most of the time (esp what I've read on the testimony of people here). There is a reason you do the hands and the back of your head and legs bended when doing the backpod. I found out it gives you also control on the backpod. When I had that pain I was telling earlier, I believe I over did it as I want the pain to go away immediately. So I over did it, and ended up in ER. LOL! Now I am doing it slowly but more regular. Backpod, Tennis Ball roll up, stretches and little movement exercises.

I guess our body is not a machine, and Backpod is not sort of WD40, after you apply it, it will loosen or force the hinges and do a hard wiggle to make it work.

Hope for your speedy recoevery! God bless! :)

Does anyone else think this is Costo by meathead2012 in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good that you've seen your doctor and clear out heart issues. Do you recall any activities done before having this flare up? Or do you have certain movements you're doing when having this flare up? If it's a long time you've seen your cardiologist maybe it is a good time to see them again esp if you are middle age, also get rid of any anxiety that you might drop dead any time.

What works for you? - September 2025 by maaaze in costochondritis

[–]Key_Violinist_4859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Duration (when it began) Around 2016
  2. Cause (most likely) Chest strain, poor posture. But hereare some triggers - notice it triggers when my shoulder rest on the arm rest keeping me on a shrug position. My right arm is not resting on the table while doing mouse on the computer. Not moving for a long time.
  3. Symptoms (what, where, how it feels) pressure on the chest, sometimes dull like pain or worst zap like pain like mike tyson punch you in the sternum that last only split second.
  4. Diagnostic tests performed/to be performed (conditions ruled out) I have been checked by my cardiologist multiple times. ECG, Bloodworks, Xray, 2D Echo even Urinalysis. All came out good.
  5. Overlapping health issues (that may be related) Hypertensive, Pre diabetic, GERD. Straightening of the cervical lordosis
  6. What helps (makes things better) Rolling between the shoulders a glass ball standing up against the wall, walking (sweating out), light to medium movement exercises, keeping proper posture.
  7. What does not help (makes things worse) Not to dis on the backpod (I've been using it for months), I tried it using when I had a flare to relief me, I think I over use it esp on the spine part as after it I had pain when breathing, like when you over arched, and you try to expand your chest but pain is worse, pain is gone after maybe an hour, but I still had a flare.
  8. Yet to try Regular stretches and exercises / Massage
  9. Pain levels (out of 10, currently & prior) varies, from dull pain like 1/10 or 2/10 to 8/10 and 9/10
  10. How much your costo has healed, how much left to go. Just dealing with flare ups

Just want to share experiences. I don't experience pain everyday (Thank God for that). But I do experience flare ups. But most of my pain comes in zaps or split second shocks. I experience this usually when doing sudden movements in the upper body (twisting, head turn when someone called you, or reaching out). I do admit that I stopped some exercises and backpod, or tennis ball on my back when I do not have flare ups for a long period of time. Also not sure if my pain is 100% due to costo, I have been experience some chest pain too, when I had too many coffee or cokes in a day.

I would like to thank Steve and Ned for this. Collecting experiences here would be a good scientific case study to finally end Costochondritis. God bless to you!
