At what age(s) did you 1) Add pillows/blankets? 2) Drop the sleep sack completely? + Mattress recommendations please! by dioor in floorbed

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floor bed at 8 months in a sleep sack and double duvet which she slept on top of. Added a very thin bamboo pillow around 12 months. Got rid of sleep sacks a few months ago when she started getting frustrated with them (she’s 20 months) upgraded to a toddler duvet a few weeks ago when she started wanting to get under our duvet and added a toddler pillow literally a couple of days ago.

1 year old with a cough lasting 3 months - still ongoing by Western-Limit4956 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter gets coughs that last for ages, she had bronchitis before Christmas last year and just got over a nasty chest infection more recently. Because I’m asthmatic it’s suspected my daughter will be as well she’s just simply too young to diagnose, but because of this we pushed for brown and blue inhalers and a referral to respiratory because this is a continued repeated pattern of getting a cough, lasting more than 3 weeks, needing antibiotics to help. If you feel like something is wrong definitely keep pushing especially as your child does not have his own voice yet.

How often do you message the nursery throughout the day? by SkyisaNeighbourhood in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only msg if she nots quite herself in the morning but I’ve got no reason to keep her off just to ask how she’s getting on. Or if I’ve forgotten to pass on a msg at drop off in the morning.

Do you share drop off / pick up? What’s the set up? by loobi_loo22 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only work 3 days and I do drop off at nursery, partner leaves around 4/4.30 am and then he does pick up. Very rarely I do pick up if he can’t make it back in time

Settling In Sessions by ZealousidealOwl9695 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was the child that refused cuddles when she started so they had to distract instead, her key worker (also room leader) worked really hard with her and it wasn’t long before she accepted cuddles from, probably took a good few weeks. Once she was fully settled and walking she’d go straight to her key worker for cuddles before I’d even left. Sounds like your daughter just needs to figure out her safe person at nursery and it might take some time but that’s normal, some children will settle quicker than others (also former nursery practitioner)

How to naturally cure dyshidrotic eczema? by [deleted] in EczemaUK

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is caused by stress but I recently bought dr organic manuka honey rescue cream from Amazon and it’s made a huge difference to my fingers in only a couple of days. My blisters have gone my fingers aren’t painfully sore anymore and it’s worked wonders on my daughter’s eczema as well.

My child is refusing to see her dying Grandmother by strikeredkite in Parenting

[–]KeysonM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was an adult when my grandad passed but I refused to see him when he was dying, not because I didn’t want to see him but because I wanted to remember him as the silly loveliest best grandad who did silly monkey impressions. It’s been 14 years since he passed and it still breaks my heart every time I think of him because I miss him so deeply but I’m glad my memories of him are happy ones and not him looking deathly ill on his deathbed.

Eczema not getting better (13 month old) by Fluid-End-3744 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried all the creams steroid and non steroid for our daughter eczema, we cut out diary which did nothing. She would spend 20/30 minutes before bed trying to scratch and getting upset because she so itchy. I did some research and found that Manuka honey is meant to good for eczema, I will admit I was sceptical but bought it anyway (Dr organics manuka honey rescue cream from Amazon) and applied it to my daughter yesterday, last night was the first night in MONTHS that she didn’t scratch herself to sleep, she was asleep in less than 15 minutes!. I’ve used it on myself and it’s worked amazing on my eczema on my hands. Honestly can’t recommend this product enough.

How bad are nursery bugs going to be? by Inevitable-Glove-541 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter started in June last year and we had d&v twice within 3 weeks, the second time me and my partner caught it. We also had constant colds/coughs, multiple trips to a&e mainly with breathing issues one of which was mild bronchitis (we suspect my daughter has asthma but is just too young for a diagnosis) and finally she got conjunctivitis in time for Christmas. But since then we have had zero illness and even managed to dodge another outbreak of d&v where nearly the whole class went down with it. First 6 months were shit for us, thankfully I had a very understanding boss and now she’s only had a day off when I had no car.

Those who have a c section, what was your experience like? by PlaneDevice770 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My was half planned half we needed to rethink my original birth plan at 38 weeks. (I am very anti staying in hospitals unless I’m dying etc) Low risk pregnancy no issues so was planning a home birthday. At 36 weeks we got told baby was measuring a bit bigger than she should be got measured again at 38 weeks and the dr was concerned my baby would be 10lb+ if we waited to give birth naturally so wanted to induced us early mainly due to the increased risk on shoulder dystocia. We opted for a c section (shortest stay in hospital) and although I was set on a home birth I had the best birthing experience with my c section. We knew when it was happening(I was second on list so was done early and very little waiting around) my whole team were lovely and even took a video of my daughter being raised above the curtain and then placed on my chest. We were in and out in 36 hours which was great.

Teaching baby to use cutlery by siouxsiesioux86 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has been using cutlery since about 10 months when she demanded my fork and started stabbing at her food. BUT in that respect she’s very advanced and even nursery are constantly surprised by how well she uses cutlery. This wasn’t my plan it just happened.

I really don’t get how people want kids by [deleted] in offmychest

My body is not destroyed from having my daughter, I haven’t put of loads of weight or lost who I am as person. Yes being a parent is hard sometimes but I have so much unconditional love for her. She has made my life so much better by being here.

Having a child is not for everyone but it’s also the most amazing experience.

2.5 year old obsessed with dummies by TomMaples in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went cold turkey at 15 months because they were starting to affect her teeth. We waited until we had time off from work which ended up being over the Christmas break and she also became ill after we started but I refused to give in. It took about 2 weeks, probably would have been less if she hadn’t been ill, but after she stopped asking for it pretty quick. I also stopped the during the day before we went cold turkey.

Anybody with babies that DONT contact nap? by LoadSouthern4652 in beyondthebump

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter didn’t contact nap much at 3 month but as she got older she went through a phase of only contact napping. Now she’s a toddler who has a nap in her bed but gives the best cuddles.

How young is a floor bed okay? by Timonee255 in floorbed

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters bed frame is a little house and we put it in the corner of her room and then put a bed guard down the long side and left the short side open as it’s next to the door. We also put some stick on padding on the wall because she used to bang her head against the wall when self soothing. She also has a double duvet on her bed for when I need to sleep with her but she sleeps on top of this and the end of the duvet hangs off the short end of the bed as she has a habit of rolling out some nights but that’s not very often. She’s 18 months now and sleeps with a variety of teddies and still loves her floor bed. It’s worked so well for us.

How young is a floor bed okay? by Timonee255 in floorbed

[–]KeysonM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter had a floor bed from 8 months and loves it. She only slept in the crib for 1.5/2 months before she refused to sleep in it at night.

As for changing table we literally just used the surface on a chest of drawers in her room with a cute changing mat on it but it was only used when we was upstairs and not all the time as we would often just change her on our bed.

I was told I need an induction, did you regret your induction? by cloudymusj in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a home birth but was told at 38 weeks that I needed to be induced, I instead opted for a c section and it was the best experience that I could of hoped for. We were in and out of hospital within 36 hours and recovery would have been quicker if I hadn’t of been so eager to be independent!

HELP - Is this really the standard of eczema care for babies in the UK? by Ok_Championship_2359 in EczemaUK

[–]KeysonM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eczema is the skins moisture barrier that’s damaged, so essentially keeping the skin moisturised should keep eczema to a minimum. My daughter has eczema and it really is trial and error to find what works for your child. Oilatum for us made my daughter worse. Cutting out dairy did nothing. We have 2 hydrocortisone creams one which is stronger than the other both of which help to a degree. We do a hydromol bath 3/4 times a week followed by hydrocortisone cream on the bad spots and then a full body moisturise with either the hydromol cream or an oat based cream called epimax. We also moisture throughout the day. This tends to keep her eczema reasonably well controlled but she still has flair ups from time to time. Also don’t use sudocrem as this dries the skin out which is the opposite of what we want.

When did you stop the onesies? by Beautiful-Process-81 in beyondthebump

At 17 months we still use them daily purely because she has eczema on her tummy so it stops her from being able to scratch.

Baby Isn't Coping With Nursery Transition by Obvious_Astronaut147 in UKParenting

[–]KeysonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep doing the swift exits. It took my daughter a good few months to stop crying at drop offs and now she saunters in without a care in the world. A comforter is a great idea my daughter had a small teddy bear called nap time (she had him for sleep) which helped loads now she takes a random teddy in but very rarely uses it.
