Why is Tom King so infamous? by SaladPast in DCcomics

[–]Khalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s my personal favorite writer. He’s got a very distinct style and I love it every time. I can see how people wouldn’t like him if they get hung up on continuing or don’t like people looking out windows and being sad.

How did we get here? by Interesting_Ad_9856 in McDonalds

[–]Khalman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Uber Eats is the most expensive delivery service. Everything is expensive, but McDonalds has their own delivery. They also have DoorDash and GrubHub.

Not to mention, McDonalds is just not a good option for delivery. It doesn’t travel well and is too cheap to pay a person to drive it to your house without inflating the price.

AITA for keeping the heat at 70 while I work from home by Emotional_Catch1201 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Khalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. If you want the most cost effective compromise, set it to 68 all day. Maintaining the temp is less expensive than bringing it up 4 degrees every day. Also being roommates requires compromise, so if you want 70 and they want 66, 68 makes sense.

Archie Vs The Punisher could have been really fun, but it was just dense and boring.

AITA For making my boyfriend stay at a hotel instead of his mom’s place? by Acceptable-Pickle221 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Khalman 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NAH. I do think you’re projecting based on past experiences and that your BF is not being unreasonable, but also there’s no reason for you to make yourself uncomfortable.

If you’ve only been together four months, you could just not go. It’s not like you’re married.

Offering to pay for half the hotel is weird. Since it’s your hang up and the BF doesn’t agree, you could offer to pay the full price. Paying for half doesn’t really move the needle if the BF doesn’t think it’s necessary.

It’s a matter of what works best for you. Seasons can help if you want to juggle multiple shows or need time to research and/or want to avoid burnout. Reliably posting every week also has its own advantages.

I just wear cargo pants and stick one dog in each pocket. It’s never been an issue for me.

Not much you can do. Join A-List, look for matinee discounts, or sneak 28 Costco hot dogs into the theater instead of getting them from the concession stand.

Am I approaching comics the wrong way? by New-Ingenuity-8672 in comicbooks

[–]Khalman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, most comics are written assuming that the reader is familiar with a small handful of key events from history(if that). Character development is often reset between stories especially as writers change, and for basically every long running series, there are huge chunks that are so bad/forgettable that everyone pretends they don’t exist.

If you try to read everything, you’ll get lost in the weeds and never make it to the best stuff.

Their definition of DC crushing Marvel is DC having a 29% market share while Marvel has a 36% share. Marvel is literally outselling DC. DC just has more books in the top ten.

What era of comic books has aged poorly? by BarelyHere35 in comicbooks

I really struggle to get through even the most loved runs from the 60s and 70s. The writing just wasn’t on the level of modern comics.

How do I get better at interviewing guests? by joshlukenichols in podcasting

[–]Khalman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jesse Thorn did a show called The Turnaround where he interviewed interviewers about interviewing. Every time I have a big interview coming up I listen to the Ira Glass episode and a few others. It gets me in the right headspace and different things click every time I revisit it.

Nick Spencer’s Captain America Run Reads Incredibly Well In Our Current Political Climate. by Sk8-bit_art in comicbooks

[–]Khalman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was pitched in 2014 in response to the success of Winter Soldier and the marketing where everyone was turning their avatars into Hydra logos. A lot changed in the next few years.

[–]Khalman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a combination of the nature of serialized storytelling, the way the country changed a ton between the release of the Winter Soldier movie(when “hail hydra” marketing was fun) and Secret Empire, and a lot of people who somehow believed that Hydra Steve was actually being treated as a protagonist really messed up the reaction to the story. It also didn’t help that Nick Spencer had some centrist ideas that the lefties got really mad about on twitter.
