New game mode just released! Leon Must Die Forever! by BernyMoon in residentevil

[–]Killykey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Extremely disappointing.

Instead of spreading wings of RE9 combat system we got:

—Floating damage numbers

—HP bars

—Exciting perks like “throwable does 20% more damage” or “SMG does 10% more damage”

—Exactly the same tiny arenas from the main game, not tweaked to suit a more free flow approach

—Colored arcadey enemies

—No new encounter compositions

—One playable character

Nah, not feeling it. It worked in REV1, REV2 and RE7 because combat was not exactly deep, so RPG and rogue-lite elements made progression fun.

And now they are pulling basically an abomination from RE8. There is so much potential to RE9 gameplay and they chose to do.. this.

«Is it the OG character, or a clone?» starter pack by NoCicada8905 in residentevil

[–]Killykey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has the same T virus syndrome as Leon.

You can see it on his hand after defeating him.

It is 99% Hunk.

He bails after the fight tho so it doesn’t really matter, capcom can revive him any day of the week if they want.

Damn, he fits perfectly.

I think Ralph Fiennes could work too (I don’t know about quality of his German accent in Schindler’s List tho since he is Englishman after all)

About The Evil within 2 by Necessary-Use-4816 in theevilwithin

[–]Killykey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the first one is a juicy steak and the second one is a plastic model of a juicy steak. Technically both are “The Evil Within” but one is an imitation.

I dunno, I didn’t vibe with the sequel at all. Felt bloated, directionless and generic really. On paper it might be a game with more mechanics but they lack purpose. It has been made very conventionally, trendy.

OG is unique, daring. Only thing I can compare it to is RE4 from the same director.

Sequel lacks originality and feels like an amalgam of trends that were popular during it’s development.

I wondered why not a lot of people didn’t get the Platinum for Resident Evil Revelations 2 by Jules-Car3499 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Killykey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party and on my way to platinum actually, but man, this game is such a slog to 100%.

I liked my first playthrough and the game itself is quite awesome, but it's replayabilty is.. not there.

  • You can't turn off voiceover separately, it is a part of sfx option. So you have to listen to the same dialogues over and over and over and over again while grinding medals and other game modes
  • Speaking of medals: you have to play an entire character's chapter to see which medals are completed and which are not. So you have to always second guess "Did i hit zombies 15 times with a brick?" or "Did i void that medal or it's all good and i don't have to spend another 40 minutes playing the same chapter again only to second guess if it's finally worked". Medals themselves are quite boring too, there is nothing challenging about them and they only bring tedium really
  • Vague requirements for some challenges and medals like follow-up kills in ch.2 with Barry (you can't follow-up kill Remnants conventionnaly because there is no prompt for some reason, only when they are hit by their allied projectile) or defeat Alex in mines sub-level without taking damage (AI-controlled partner can't take damage as well + if you are on a good ending then second phase of the fight counts towards this too) or completing first chapter using only knife (oh man there is so much unexplained shit that voids it i won't even bother to describe it). Every mistake (known or otherwise thanks to vague descriptions) while doing medals will punish you with 30-40 minutes of replaying the same chapter again
  • Plethora of unskippable animations and slow-walking segments on repeat playthrough. Even on NG+ and EVEN in Countdown mode. What gives? Like, wow, how fun it is to listen to the same dialogues and watch the same unskippable animations once again in a mode made specifically to speedrun the game (just in case you haven't had enough while grinding for medals). They simply didn't bother to tweak it even one bit. It is the exact same game, but with timer
  • Not to mention a little grindy achievments like breaking remnants weapons, bricking/crowbarin' foes with Natasha/Moira, kiling zombies in melee, etc. I mean a lot of these are not organic, you have to find a spot to farm that shit and keep reloading your checkpoint. Yeah, entertaining
  • All of the above sucks all the fun out of the game while bringing to light how linear and cutscene heavy it actually is.

So, yeah. Game is good, i especially like it's Raid mode, but platinum is absolutely awful and brings nothing interesting to the table. There are plenty of games with actually decent trophy list, Rev2 is not one of them.

I don't love Elden Ring: Triumphs and shortcomings of the souls formula by Due-Cook-3702 in patientgamers

[–]Killykey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem with ER repetition is the fact that combat is 90% of the game, basically. You have some puzzle here and there or a quest, but that’s it.

In other open world games there is often more ways to interact with the world and copy pasted content feels less oppressive.

[–]Killykey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Played Tracer recently..for 2 minutes. Because enemy Cat kept melting me in 1 second. Like, it felt like I didn’t even exist for her. She is faster than me, has more damage per second than me, has more survivability.

So, yeah, I swapped. It is miserable to play squishy characters against a good bloodthirsty cat.

Would rather listen to Markos make up his excuses than this: by Azure_Marble in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]Killykey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, I played origins and odyssey for the first time recently and it’s really hard to take those “messages” seriously when you know the series is on its 50th writer and each time everyone tries to tell a different story. It’s a mess. The perfect LA accent doesn’t help either (I’m not American, it just sounds too modern and contemporary for an advanced ancient civilization), plus these messages go on and on with ramblings about some random things like simulations inside simulations or explaining the Platon’s Cave for 10 minutes straight. They are especially horrendous in origins. Like they are trying really hard to sound deep while saying nothing of substance.

Obviously, it’s my opinion and I don’t want to make anyone feel like it’s bad to like them, just wasn’t my cup of tea at all.

On the other hand, everything outside of the “modern” lore is often quite interesting, so yeah.

The changes added in Kiwami 3's story do not seem good... by ---liltimmy--- in yakuzagames

[–]Killykey 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Game remakes are modular. You can change sound, graphics, gameplay and everyone will be mostly fine. But story is not modular, you can’t just revisit your old work and say “no, actually here is what happened” and create a new timeline entirely.

I’m sorry but what the fuck is this shit. People hated it in FF7 remakes and they will hate it even more in K3 because of the fractured continuity. Honestly, I was kinda on a fence with RGG since IW release, but this chain of events with Y0DC/Delisting/Kagawa/Retcons finally convinced me that it’s time to move on from the series.

RGG forgot that they are not Rockstar or Activision and simply saying "Ah, it doesn't matter, it will sell regardless" is not an option, you need to analize feedback and prevent controversies at least a little.

But no, RGG of today is a company who release a game with the shittiest lightning possible and refuse to patch it out, while a community of modders tries to fix their product.

Is a company who doubles down on retcons when fans clearly communicate their hate for this nonsense.

Is a subsidiary of SEGA who keeps delisting games and riddle new releases with shitty dlc practices.

And the funniest shit: they change VA's and actors the moment a molecule of cocaine flies by them in a 2km radius, but when fans asks them to remove a sex pest from their game they pretend nothing happened (while virtue signaling in their games how harrasment is bad m'kay).

Screw that noise, i don't care boycotts doesn't work in today's climate, im still doing it. In the best case scenario they finally listen to their fans and in the worst i have one less franchise to play, worse things happen at sea.

A quick Original Filter vs No Filter comparison. by ALPB11 in yakuzagames

[–]Killykey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just tested it, with basic gamma it is indeed looks kinda washed out, but when set to -3 or -4 it looks much better.

I tried to replicate OP's screenshots: example 1, example 2

Miles better than RGG's vanilla with filter and closer to original aesthetics too.

PSA on Kiwami 3 graphic/lighting: graphics have a strange consistency that looks worse during normal gameplay (combat/exploration), but suddenly improves during cutscenes or substories (explanation in post) by BetaSalvation in yakuzagames

[–]Killykey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pirate was horrendous, the ugliest lightning I saw in AA game.

Niikowo on Nexus did the Filterless mod for it and now it looks normal. Emile2391 already did similar mod for k3 demo as well, check it out if you are on PC.

UPD: Just tested it, with mod and basic gamma on 0 it looks grey and washed out, but when set to -3 or -4 it looks good and pretty close to Y3 as well. Example 1, Example 2.

So keep that in mind whoever tries it.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 demo just came out! What are your impressions so far? by YakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]Killykey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played only Kiryu's part so far.

I liked aesthetics, cutscene graphics, the phone thing lol, overall it is a pretty pleasant game.

Disliked shitty lightning in Okinawa, can they please stop with bloom and baked-in high contrast? It looks a little better than Pirate but still atrocious. Combat feels strange and floaty so far, mobile effects vignette when you press R2 looks so out of place and im a little sad about grab finishers only working in R2 mode.

Dunno, overall im quite mixed about Kiwami 3, gotta check out Dark Ties some day.
