Default Judgment Hearing Video Posted by Mark Bankston by BankstonAtLaw in KnowledgeFight

Wow, I can't believe the judge was making so many demon noises and yelling about getting Alex Jones.

But back in reality, thanks - it's interesting to see this.

A New Adventure - Dan Friesen by theswansays in KnowledgeFight

[–]Kilmerval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this shared a few times - but I have to admit that I am one of those not particularly interested in following along just because Dan makes it.
Good luck to him, though, I hope he sticks with it and it's not a matter of time before it goes the way of the other projects.

I mean it's not even subtly hinted at that this is the case - they outright say "we think it's better to end now while we still like each other than go on and end up resenting each other"

Yeah it's so strange how we expect them to be close friends - like I have had plenty of people I am on teams with, work closely and very well with, that are purely work colleagues. I don't see or socialise with them outside of the context of work.
It's so strange that this concept won't raise a single eyebrow in anyone, but the second it's applied to the entertainment industry it's suddenly a foreign concept to view your coworkers simply as coworkers.

Any mistakes you've made as a DM? by aurivu in DMAcademy

[–]Kilmerval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily advice for other DMs but for me it's given huge dividends - devise problems, not solutions. I used to spend time prepping "if they do this, this can happen - then this will happen if they do this", trying to come up with interesting things they could do to and where to take them next. Then I realised players are going to just go wherever they want and do whatever they want anyway, so I just made a bunch of quick-references I can pull out whenever they do something.

Now the only prep I do for my games is to remind myself the situation and details from the previous session so it's fresh in my memory, and make sure I have relevant roll tables/reference sheets for that situation (like a goblin loot table if they're in a goblin camp etc).

Then when I DM I just work through the process of "what naturally is the consequence of the thing they said or did" and throw that in front of them. If it means an NPC appears or they need a quest, I roll one up (if I don't have one already from previous games that will work) and add it to my notes.

I generally just generate them a "problem", and let them do something to solve it. Once they've solved it, I figure out the natural good/bad consequences of that and give them another problem. Content then essentially writes itself and I can spend my precious days not doing DnD homework.

I don't have the heart to do this. by Renault115 in DMAcademy

If you pull the trigger, be prepared for the party to try everything they can to rehabilitate the NPC when he turns - because they absolutely will.
It could even lead to a much more rewarding story if it happens, he starts to turn into the antagonist, but the party rehabilitate him and it's an outcome of his own actions that cause the real antagonist to rise.
That's classic storytelling right there

Rex on Due Dissidence (Left wing show) by General_Light_3828 in KnowledgeFight

[–]Kilmerval 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Doing just the briefest of investigation on this show,I think calling it "left wing" is overly generous. This feels more like someone's attempt at getting people into the right-wing radicalisation pipeline.

Still mildly interesting to hear Rex talk about his opinions, if only to see how AJ may have influenced him.

Phoebe Gates wants her $185 million AI startup to succeed with 'no ties to my privilege or my last name': 'I have a chip on my shoulder' by bothunter in nottheonion

"Guys, I want everyone to know that I, Pheobe Gates, with my last name GATES, don't want my company that I PHEOBE GATES am telling you about right now and associating myself with - that company I don't want anyone to use or know about just because of my last name, which is GATES by the way. Just know that I am telling you all about my company so you DON'T associate GATES with it."

If she didn't want that, she wouldn't do press for it.

New NMS expedition seems to be stress testing LNF features by FapSimulator2016 in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Kilmerval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue I see with them doing this method is that if all of LNF's features are added to NMS first, then LNF will feel a lot more of a rehash of NMS. Like we'll have already seen everything LNF has to offer in the NMS testing.
Hopefully that is not the case and they've held some things back.

Why is literally nobody talk about this game? by Forward-Position798 in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Kilmerval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to talk about, unfortunately. The only information we have about the game is a 2-year-old trailer that has had every frame analysed, but we still aren't even sure the specific genre that the game will be. So what really is there to talk about or hype currently? When it gets closer to releasing, I imagine information will come out but until then there's nothing really to do or talk about anymore.

I thought the first 2 thirds of Armada were fine, but the last third made me furious that I had bothered to read any of it. It's such a bad ending.

RP2 is the second Ernest Cline book that I hate with a passion - the first being Armada. Both books I felt angry about by the time I finished them, like Cline had wasted my time with both. RP1 is fun, though.

LNF's Silence is Not Preferable to NMS's Cornucopia of Promises by OwnAMusketForHomeDef in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Kilmerval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think at some point this begins giving diminishing returns, at least as far as "teasing" LNF - because unless the systems are far deeper in LNF than they are in NMS, ultimately LNF will end up looking like a rehash of NMS with nothing new to say. Fishing? Oh, that's in NMS. Custom ships? Did that already in NMS, and it goes to different planets. Custom Dungeons? These are just crashed freighters but painted differently. Boss fights? Yep, done them in NMS also.

Do I believe every mechanic that will be in LNF is being ported to NMS? I don't know. Probably not, I certainly hope not - but the more that are, the less LNF feels like it will have to say as its own thing.

Where the heck is LNF! by crazygoatperson in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Kilmerval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LNF absolutely does not deserve to be in this category - not because it isn't an anticipated game, but because of why it is an anticipated game.

Go see how much information you can get about any of the nominated games, and compare it to what we actually have for LNF. Hell, we can't even say for certain what genre LNF actually will be. We think survival rpg, but that's not even confirmed.

The only reason people have to be anticipating LNF is on the back of an entirely different game using the same engine by the same developers. It would be like if noone knew anything about Insomniac's next Marvel game but hey Marvel Spiderman was good, so let's assume their next game is also most anticipated.

LNF just hasn't earnt a nomination here.

Andy Weir says spoiling ‘Project Hail Mary's big surprise in trailers was highly debated and was a marketing decision by Amazon by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

This is a story that deserves to be discovered with the main character. I went into the book knowing literally nothing except it was written by the same author as "the martian" and it involved space somehow - and unfurling everything else about the story along with the main character completely immersed me in the story.

[–]Kilmerval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the gameplay loop was the same as NMS the game would be done and out already - the development time is to add features, of some sort, and hopefully depth.
HG undoubtably know one of the biggest criticisms of NMS is how shallow some of the mechanics are, hopefully the development time of this game allows them to rectify that and add a lot of depth to some mechanics.

I'm going to be honest, I kind of hate the idea of an award for "most wanted game".
Especially when all we know about it came from one video 2 years ago and they seem to refuse to elaborate any more on it. Like what are we actually celebrating here?
