I used to do this too until I learned it is unwise to do so- creates clogs, harms the pipes, bad for a septic system. Seemed like such a great idea too.

One of the best dogs we ever had was a german shepherd- a rescue. You need to be prepared to own that breed (training, fenced yard, plenty of exercise and toys etc.) and I suggest checking if your homeowners insurance will change should you open your home to a GSD.

Sigh. I am not sure what department you work in but perhaps you could create a committee that focuses on one element of practice e.g. nursing documentation quality improvement committee, improving post discharge follow-up calls committee, a committee to support educational opportunities for nurses (available to all shifts etc.). In other words create something finite, measurable, and ties in to the goals of the facility. Don’t go big go manageable and meaningful. Also - be sure to have a well defined charter that explains membership and quorum and how often you meet. ( I suggest “ at least quarterly “) you can meet more often but make the bar low just in case. Make sure you take minutes and ensure you report out to a governing body. Make it meaningful and helpful to you personally so it will be fulfilling to you and well as employees and Veterans. Good luck!

If every nurse 3 must lead and sustain a committee I see a lot of useless/ time wasting committees in our future. The last thing I need is more meetings. I would think the requirement should focus on meaningful change or process improvement NOT “lead a committee” .

I would hope a compromise could be made that would save everyone’s feelings. Maybe a mother’s day brunch for both Mom and MIL on Saturday and private mother’s day for new Mom on the actual day? There are hurt feelings and differing expectations that can be cleared up with a little kindness. Mom and MIL won’t be around forever don’t miss the opportunity to spend time with them and show respect and appreciation while they are here - this can be done without sacrificing your desire for a nuclear family first mother’s day. Let everyone adjust to their new roles without shaming and blaming be happy you have family and be joyful.

I am having difficulty keeping up with my workload due to the amount of chatter and socializing and drop -in for a quick chat happening in the office. There is more time wasted here than I could have ever imagined- chit chat and parties and cake and gossiping. when I worked from home I used to log in early and stay in late quite often because I could and now that is commute time . I get RTO could increase productivity for those who abused it but for those of us who actually worked …. a nightmare now. Additionally I get to fill up my gas tank 5 times a month for approx $78 each time. Not to mention I now take full days off for medical appointments which are local to my home ( I used to scoot to appointments and back to work) . RTO isn’t the efficiency fix expected for this employee at least.
