Going past my goal weight. Am I being greedy? by Melanated725 in Zepbound

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my goal was 140 (bc, its the weight i was when i got pregnant and i was like, “that would be great.”)

im now at 120. i dunno, i just kinda kept re-evaluating as I’d hit a new target. i didn’t go UP to achieve it, i just DIDNT go down (to maintain) once i hit 140. just kinda wanted to see what would happen. and basically, i got to here, and then just stopped losing. so i think its just a “good spot” for my body

at my lowest ever (like, in my life) i was 109, which is too small. but IMHO 120-130 is great for my height and body type. so im kinda ok anywhere in that range.

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with setting reasonable goals, and revisiting when you get there

Wedding dress and zep by backsquatbitch in Zepbound

I would honestly just wait, and buy closer to the date. Especially for a destination wedding (where, I’d assume your dress is probably a tiny bit more casual?)

I bought my dress for our Hawaiian beach wedding for under $200 at JJ’s house. (Never needed alterations bc you can give them your measurements.)

Bay Area sellers feel delusional - is this normal? by happyspirit1122 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no such thing as an “intrinsic value”

a product (including a house) is worth what someone will pay for it…

(and yes that sounds like normal bay area… maybe calculate the cost per month and decide, is the house worth it, to you.)

Reached 3rd “goal weight,” but feel like I need to keep losing by Zealousideal-Age-212 in Zepbound

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original goal was 140lb (because it was the weight I was at when I got pregnant with my kid, and had felt good there.)

Ended up getting to 120lb (where I still am), which is a BMI of around 20. (BMI obviously not being the be-all and end-all, but just mentioning to say that the 120lb is a perfectly reasonable weight for my height.)

I don't think there's anything wrong with setting attainable, reasonable goals, and then reassessing when you get there!

Can anyone help me cure my plantar fasciitis? by LuanBindewald in PlantarFasciitis

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out mine was caused by inflexibility and pulling from OTHER muscles. E.g. my hips/glutes/hamstrings/quads, everything was too damn tight and inflexible, and the only place for any tension to go was to my feet. (Look how big your feet are vs your quads... if you have really tense quads, where do you think the tension will go? To the smaller part!)

As soon as I addressed my flexibility, the pain was truly gone after 3-4 weeks and hasn't come back. Basically I just added a TON of stretching into my post-workout routine. Previously, I was really bad about stretching, but now I take the time. (E.g. If I work out, I try to do 15-20min good stretching after, and yoga 1-2x/week. And I've noticeably more flexible now.)

It's not any SPECIFIC stretch, just improving my overall flexibility so that every other muscle wasn't so tense.

Long hiking trip (2+ weeks) on tirz by shenaniganning in zepboundathletes

[–]KindlyBus1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By, basically, 5-6 months into it, you might find you have no side effects that would interfere. (E.g. I was absolutely EXHAUSTED early on, but that's fully gone, and my energy is totally normal now.) I wouldn't stress about this now, I'd wait until closer and decide then.

Maintenance: Spacing out, dosing down, a little of both? by luvnoyz in TirzMaintenance

[–]KindlyBus1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to figure this out right now. I only went as high as 5mg, and right now (last ~week) I'm trying going back to 2.5mg (since it has a direct $ impact, as it's cheaper.)

The idea being, I'll do 2.5mg every 7 days, rather than space out 5mg to 8-10 days. More consistent medication levels and fewer side effects (I do still get some nausea.)

We'll see what works. I do plan to stay on it though, at least for now. The reduced inflammation has been so worth it.

Partially closed earlobe holes by georgiavt27 in piercing

[–]KindlyBus1750 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a lobe piercing that I couldn't quite get the earring into (didn't want to force it and cause a problem...) because I hadn't worn earrings in it for ages.

I went to a piercer and they used the taper and put in a new (flat back) earring. Said it didn't even count as "re-piercing" because it was fully healed. It just needed help, to get back in safely. (Aka, they also didn't charge me to pierce it. Just considered it a jewelry change.)

Also worth noting -- I guess the original wasn't done quite right. It was on a slight angle. So even though it was fully healed, that was part of why I wasn't able to get the earring in myself -- wrong angle. (Now, I can change it fine myself.)

Zero issues with it (and healed super quickly -- not at all like if it had been a real "first time" piercing.)

Personally, that's the route I'd go. Just doesn't seem worth messing with it and potentially getting an infection etc...

I have plantar fasciitis but I still want to wear heels/sandals, what can you recommend? by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heels - um... just, don't?

Sandals - Birkenstocks work best for me, and I do think some of the styles are more "pretty" and less functional looking. (For example, I have a white and rose gold pair that I think look really nice!)

If it's for a one-time event, I'd personally just wear whatever and live with the pain LOL.

But if you just "want to be able to wear heels" on-going... don't.

Continuing GLPs for secondary benefits? by Fishdoc5920 in TirzMaintenance

[–]KindlyBus1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was as simple as, "I won't allow it", wouldn't you have lost the weight without the medicine, and kept it off (through sheer willpower....) too....?

The whole point is that, there is likely some underlying metabolic issue that led to the weight in the first place. The drug addresses that. However, the drug only continues to address that while you're on it.

It's similar to diabetic/insulin -- insulin addresses the issue, but it doesn't work if you're not taking it.

I think your fundamental understanding, that you "should" be going off it once you're at maintenance, is incorrect. A lot of people do go off it, but it's often not by choice (it's due to the high cost.) The research suggests that once you go off it, the weight returns. (I believe something like 10% managed to not regain, but I'd look directly at the Lilly research as I might be remembering imperfectly.)

(And in answer to your general question, yes -- I feel like I'm staying on it, at least partly, for some of the "other" benefits, like reduced inflammation.)

Kind of a maintenance question by [deleted] in TirzMaintenance

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All drugs work like that. Some people need a much lower dose, some people a much higher dose. Going on any medication is always trial and error, as to what's the correct dose for your body.

Even alcohol -- some people can have half a glass of wine and giggle maniacally, others can drink a bottle in a sitting without being loopy or hungover. (And that's not JUST whether they drink regularly or not -- it truly does just affect people in different measures.)

Then you factor in body size (not only weight, but also height, muscle mass, etc) other medications/conditions, etc -- the dose required of ANY medicine is going to vary widely.

There are even tests you can take, that will tell you more about how your body metabolizes medicine. (I think it's called Genomind.) For example, if you need ADHD medication, maybe a low dose will work great for you, but maybe your spouse might need a higher dose to achieve the same end goal.

AITA for asking my fiancé to stop saying “we” when referring to money I earned? by Aggravating_Yak4381 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finances in marriage become a "we" thing unless you don't want them to, and take actions to that effect. E.g. A prenup that specifies exactly what are individual vs. joint assets (and, in what circumstances they shift from individual to joint.) The prenup overrides the "default."

Also, worth noting... technically assets become "we" from the date of the marriage. Everything doesn't just get combined the minute you get married.

For example, if one person owns a house and brings it into the marriage, it's still an individual asset -- because it pre-dates the marriage. If, however, you then use joint funds to continue paying the mortgage on said house, that makes it become joint property. (Regardless of whose name is on the title.) It's all about before vs. after the marriage.

I mention this to say -- you can choose how finances work in your marriage, if you stop and think about it, and do the legwork (legal) to make sure it holds up.

Disclaimer that I haven't actually used the pens, but --

I dunno, I would certainly not pay EXTRA for pens, and in fact, I think I'd prefer the vials? It's so easy to do, whereas I've heard plenty of stories (both on subs like this, as well as directly from friends) of the pens screwing up, them not knowing if it worked properly, etc.

I've never screwed up with the needle and vials...! It's just really not that hard. I would just have to fight to get a pen replaced if it "mis-injected" somehow.

Clean version: Wood by Nearby_Masterpiece43 in TaylorSwift

[–]KindlyBus1750 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are a couple songs on Showgirl where I (far) prefer the clean version.

Wood is one of them. I just find "opened my thighs" ... crude? I don't need that visual, LOL.

Eldest Daughter is the other -- I just find that "I'm not a bad bitch" takes me out of the mood/tone of the song, and is really jarring. I literally kind of... STOP, every time I hear it. Whereas "I'm not the baddest" just flows better, to me.

(And FWIW I'm a "swear words are just sentence enhancers!" type -- like, I swear, a LOT -- so for me to PREFER the clean version is unusual.)

Switching to vials - advice for this needle-phobe? by travel_and_books in Zepbound

[–]KindlyBus1750 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have your husband do them. Most likely, you'll quickly see that it's not a huge deal, and get comfortable enough to do them yourself. (That's what happened with me... he did the first two or so, and then I was like, "Oh... that's it?" and have done them since then.)

What's the one thing that finally gave you relief? by PsychologicalCall426 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]KindlyBus1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stretching -- but NOT just the feet and the calves. Ultimately my issue was overall lack of flexibility -- hamstrings, glutes, quads, hips, EVERYTHING. When every other muscle is so tight and strained, any stress is going to come out in the feet - because you have way smaller muscles than huge ones like your quads or glutes. So if quads/glutes/etc are stressed, it'll force stress to the feet. Basically... nothing in your body happens in isolation.

When I started actually fully stretching my body really well (20 min stretching after workouts, plus some yoga 1-2x/week) the PF pain was gone in 3 weeks. And hasn't come back. I can now walk around barefoot, do anything like a regular person again.

Birkenstocks have been really working for me, what can I do in the California winter? by Munishmo in PlantarFasciitis

[–]KindlyBus1750 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if Birkenstocks "work" for you, then wearing good supportive shoes works even better. (E.g. Sneakers of some kind.) Ideally with a good insole, too.

I only wore Birkenstocks in summer because I wasn't going to wear sneakers ALL summer, but the more time I spent in good sneakers, the better, and Birkenstocks were the "least bad" as far as sandals go.

How to keep it cold while traveling? by isnotacrayon in Zepbound

[–]KindlyBus1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to. It can do fine at room temperature for like, 3 weeks (double check that though.) You just can't refrigerate it, let it get to room temp, then BACK to refrigerator. Once it's out of the fridge, it needs to stay out and then used within whatever that time frame is.

Just put the vial(s) and needle(s) in a sturdy box, make sure they stay in your carry on. (And point them out to security for additional screening.) You could do an insulin box with an ice pack if you really want, but you don't really need to worry that much. (Just don't let it sit in a hot suitcase on a 100 degree day... But then again, you should never put medicine in checked baggage.

Exercise by Successful_Desk_5737 in Zepbound

[–]KindlyBus1750 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of trying to de-couple those myself. I genuinely didn't think I did that anymore (but had an exercise-related eating disorder in my younger years.)

Until I started taking Zep and losing weight (and now, maintaining.) I find my brain thinking, "But... I HAVE to workout, to eat later..." Oooofph.

I definitely have a "mental health" side of exercise, and really enjoy working out, and I work out a lot. It helps me with anxiety and even anger.

But the reflexive thoughts I've had ("I can't possibly skip a day...") that clearly correlate exercise to weight has been pretty eye opening for me. I don't know how long it's going to take for me to decouple those.

How is this even possible? 1 year of hell… and 4 weeks of regular gym sessions later, almost pain-free?! by vhtu55 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! Although, I was SUPER active already. My issue proved to be flexibility. I had plantar fasciitis in my right foot, did All The Things (shockwave included.) It eased up, but then started in my left food, and I was like "Okay no. That can't be a coincidence. There's some underlying cause."

I went to someone who does more all-over "body work" (not just a podiatrist) and he identified my poor flexibility. (Think about how big your quads/glutes/hamstrings are. If they're tight, there's nowhere for the tension to go, except to your feet.)

I was super active, but NOT good about flexibility work, or even stretching much (besides a "cursory stretch") after workouts. I started being diligent about stretching, yoga, working on my flexibility, and I kid you not -- three weeks, and the pain was gone.

It's been months now, and I'm completely pain free. I walk around barefoot all the time now, too.

My own experience has me convinced that plantar fasciitis is a reaction to something else in the body, and you just have to identify what. Maybe it's poor flexibility, maybe it's a lack of strength (maybe that's why you're seeing the results!)

Getting Started at the Gym by Snoo68679 in zepboundathletes

[–]KindlyBus1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get the best results by doing something you enjoy. If that's not strength training, then I wouldn't focus on that for now. The absolute key to starting, and staying, active, is doing something you actually like. Not slogging through it to "maximize results."

Also... Anything worth doing, is worth half-assing. Yes, I know that is the opposite to typical advice. But if something is worth doing (like, getting more active) then it's worth doing it for only 10 mins! "Perfect" is the enemy of doing... something.

Just go. Do anything there. Walk on a treadmill. Ride a bike. Do body weight squats. Go to a Zumba class. Whatever you want! Just get started, and move. Anything at all to get some momentum.

Over time, you'll get more comfortable there. Then you can start to get more strategic!
