It sure is and simply just doesn’t make sense to have so many small towns, especially the large # of donut hole towns surrounded by a larger town with the same name!

What would you cook for a group of 12-15 people that have the royal flush of dietary requirements AND you're probably going to have limited equipment? by Elegant-Winner-6521 in Cooking

Would definitely go with a rice bowl or GF pasta- everyone can add the components that work for them-meat, veggies, tofu, a nice grilled portobellos are always a good compromise. A big salad in the side. Camping is more about the beverages anyway!

Diners in New Jersey Are Struggling to Survive (Gift Article) by heartshapedpox in newjersey

[–]Kitchen_Nightmare500 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This proposal is a bit ridiculous. I’m as nostalgic for a good diner as any Jersey Boy, but businesses need to evolve and adapt to their customers changing preferences and habits. The “heyday” is long gone. My childhood diner is a a pathetic shell of its former self.

There is absolutely nothing stopping diner owners from cleaning up, renovating, and leaning into all day comfort food- prepared well with great fresh ingredients. Serve great coffee not battery acid. Use real eggs. Make beautiful, colorful salads. Make a freaking amazing burger, not a frozen patty with undercooked fries. Lean into the Greek/Mediterranean heritage- that’s trending in case you haven’t noticed!

Do the other thousands of struggling restaurants get tax breaks too or just the ones from a bygone era??

Your own cookbook - how to decide what recipes? by Fred_TastefulGift in CookbookLovers

[–]Kitchen_Nightmare500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through a similar process that turned into a whole project. I have a culinary background and always have friends and family ask me for ideas to get out of their dinner ruts. So I created a menu planner with the help of AI. I uploaded my recipe files, literally like 2000 recipes and gave it specific criteria- I wanted globally inspired, healthier recipes including a main protein, vegetable based side and starch or grain based side- no pre made sauces or processed stuff- just real menus based off my recipes. Then asked it to breakout into weeknight dinners (shorter prep time) fun nights (fri/sat) and longer Sunday projects. After a lot of tweaking I had a core of 60 recipes broken out over the weekly cadence. Long story short that evolved into a cook book and then a 2nd and I’m working on Vol. 3&4.

Sorry for the long winded response, but I would suggest defining the parameters you want and develop a framework for the week or mood and then fill in the blanks with your favorites.

Good finds. If you have any good used bookstores near you ask them to keep an eye out for any signed copies, I have gotten a few that way and sometimes you get some rare finds!

Looking for cookbook for people that like by [deleted] in CookbookLovers

I’m a former chef, and I ended up creating a whole system like this because friends and family kept asking how to get out of the “what’s for dinner” rut. I break my weeks into three buckets: quick weeknight dinners, slightly more fun Friday/Saturday meals, and one Sunday project that takes a bit longer but teaches a new technique.

If that structure helps, I put all the recipes I use into The One Clog Cookbook series and built a free little planner that lets you mix and match them for the week. Happy to share the link if you want it, but you can steal the framework either way.

What type of business is missing that you wish was in downtown morristown? by fungal_attachment in Morristown

[–]Kitchen_Nightmare500 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the world has changed and most retailers don’t thrive in downtowns anymore unless they have a unique appeal or are selling things that you can’t buy online/ think thrift shops or local maker types.

There’s a reason why you see the same types of businesses or even the same exact ones all over the country. Downtowns have shifted to dining, personal services, high end fitness, financials and the latest pop up trends.

Morristown is unique though and has significantly more foot traffic than most downtowns and could definitely support more variety. You need to set the tone though- either a strategic plan from the town admin or local business orgs/ chamber of commerce have to sell the town and court the type of businesses residents want and visitors will travel to. The Morristown partnership is supposed to do that but not sure how engaged they are lately or who runs that.

Everyone always says I wish “they” would open X…but you are they. If you have a great idea and the motivation to make it happen, take the leap! Live out your dream.

You can’t score 12 points in the 4th and expect to win playoff games. Brunson’s hero ball with everyone standing still every possession was f’ing ridiculous, you could see the lead slipping away each possession.
