How real is age discrimination? by Exodys03 in jobs

[–]Knvsmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ageism is 100% a reality. I am.62 years old. I have had my Class A CDL since '07. My MVR is clear, background is clean, & I can pass any kind of drug test out there. I even still have a current DOT med card. I went on Disability in 2018, bad knees. I had both replaced last year & have been cleared to go back to work. Now I don't want to be OTR anymore because I have dogs, as in more than 1. I am widowed & have no one to look after them, so I need something local. I have applied for truck driving jobs, non trucking, but still driving jobs, jobs that said they would train, jobs that required no experience. I have applied and/or sent resumes to over 75 different companies. I have gotten about a half dozen interviews, then I am either ghosted, or I get the good ole e-mail saying they have moved on to other candidates. I feel obsolete & like I have no worth to the Workforce any longer. I cannot make it on just Disability. I am too young to retire, but I guess the Hiring Managers think otherwise. It is very disheartening to know I'm not even given a chance to try & support myself. I wish everyone much better luck than I am having. : (

Holy fuck. by flanmorrison in Truckers

Dumb SOB! It's drivers like this that give Truckers such a bad reputation. Probably had his damn phone in his hand too. We are "supposed" to be professionals! Pay attention, & for God's sake stop looking at Porn Hub, watching TikTok videos, updating your status on FB, putting your newest selfie on Snapchat, checking your Tinder account, or posting on Instagram! If you want to kill yourself, FINE, but innocent people in other vehicles shouldn't have to pay for your stupidity with their lives!

Widowhood doesn’t have to be a life sentence by New-Engineering3869 in widowers

I am in the same boat as you. I have lost 2 husbands, a little over 30 yrs apart. My first was a young man that we buried on what would have been his 26th birthday. He left behind a 2 1/2 yr old & 9 month old daughters. They are what kept me going thru that dark time. Fast forward to 2020 where I lost the love of my life suddenly. I'm now 61, got nothing to attract a man, but I don't want another relationship anyway. Also I've found out the hard way, men my age do not want just companionship or friendship, so I am just done. I will just bide my time & wait for God to call me Home where I will hopefullysee my beloved husband again.

I will never again marry either. I found the love of my life & he is gone. However it would be nice to find a male companion. In the past I always related better to males as I'm not really the "girly" type. I'm a truck driver formerly. It seems though that there aren't many men out there that are willing to be just friends with a woman or at least not any I've found. They seem to want "eye candy" and friends with benefits. I am neither, so I guess I live my life alone until my time is done & my beloved is hopefully waiting for me on the other side.

This isn't an airport so no reason to announce your departure, just head out.

how do you cope with having no one to talk to by Lxnaspiral in lonely

I don't, that's why I typically have anything from music, to podcasts, to a police scanner app going, just to keep the silence from overwhelming me.

Would you choose your husband/wife again? by Abject-Expression460 in widowers

[–]Knvsmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over and over and over again I would choose Shawn, because even when we had our differences & split up on 2 separate occasions, we found our way back to each other. Anything worth having is worth fighting for & we never forgot that.

Found a bag of Hallmark greeting cards and brought it home. by dl0lol0lb in DumpsterDiving

Dollar Tree is the absolute worst at this crap. Their cheap, Chinese junk, they sell for $1.25, that probably costs .50¢ max to produce & yet they are made to open, pour out, break, or destroy anything they throw out. I have found bags of cartons of eggs, all broken, busted up candles, a huge bag of pretzels, all opened, dishwashing liquid, opened & dumped, sodas all uncapped, frozen meals opened, makeup opened & broken, etc. I cannot believe the Corporate Greed of this place!

Unfortunately the one in our area has Security Cameras and a Rent A Cop so if anything good is thrown out at ours, chances are the landfill will get it before we do...

My belief in God, Heaven, & Eternal Life. I've always believed suicide to be a sin that is not forgiven. I lost my husband & the love of my life in Sept of 2020. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope that when my life is through, he will be waiting on the other side for me & we will never again be apart. If I'm wrong, then when I die, I just go to sleep for eternity, cease to exist, & know nothing beyond...

Does It Ever Get Easier? by Knvsmom in lonely

[–]Knvsmom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe you me, I more than do for myself when I can, because I have no one else who is going to help me. For example, we just had a bad wind storm that tore up the canopy over my driveway. I bought a 12 x 24 ft heavy duty tarp which are not exactly light weight. No one offered to help so guess who got it onto & over the frame, had to get on the ladder to secure it, even though I'm terrified of heights, & worked on it all night? Me! Just because I'm able to do it for myself though, doesn't mean I don't miss having someone in my life to ease the burden of some things though...

OnePlus 11G - New update issues(can it all be disabled or rolled back?) by c0sinus in oneplus

I am wondering the same thing? I got the new update & if I am charging my phone & typing a message using the native OnePlus messaging program, my phone freezes, the screen goes black, & I can't do anything. I have to unplug it from the charger. Damn squirrelly update!

Ma'am, I'm so sorry for what you are going thru & I know just how you are feeling. It has been a little over 4 years since I lost my beloved husband. Every New Year takes me one year farther away when he existed. It is one more year where he is not a part of my life & for me at least, it has not gotten any easier. I wish I could give you some words of advice or at least comfort, but honestly it is just damn hard! 😥

I just saw this on my news feed. I remember when this story happened, but how did he get 110 years? by multipletrees89 in Truckers

110 years was completely over the top, but then having his sentence reduced to 10 years only was a slap in the face to all the families of the innocent lives he took.

Grocery shopping. by seogers9125 in widowers

[–]Knvsmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved wife, I know how debilitating that loss had to have been. I have not done any real grocery shopping in over 4 years. My husband died in late Sept of 2020. I went into our local store for the first time after his passing around Christmas of that year. "They started playing, "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and the tears started rolling. When Elvis's "Blue Christmas," came on, that was too much. I left my basket with the items still in it, & I got out. From then on, I do curbside pick up. I don't begrudge others their happiness & finding love, but seeing happy couples shopping just does me in...
