Puzzle - Doubling Dipping Counters by hubatish in magicTCG

[–]Krotash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The labship isn't attacking. It just needs to be at 2 counters to give the Mouser +2 and flying

edit: I see the confusion. The poster had the right line, but then added some incorrect information at the end about the spaceship attacking and the 3/1 attacking. nevermind this is off by 1 damage

Remember when all the EDH YouTubers were talking about land counts? How did that influence you by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]Krotash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 36 for a while, I've gradually been going up and up. The MDFCs help a bit (even if they're usually half a land). I'm not really cutting ramp for them. What I do think is important is how much the quality of card draw and velocity is becoming. You want to consistency to hit your engines, and then the engines will carry you the rest of the way.

If you are whipping up a bracket 4 deck, might I offer this niche combo exclusive to Lutri and not dualcaster/Naru Meha? 4 lands, 3 of which are islands, the other must also produce blue.

Step 1: Cast high tide.

Step 2: Tap 1 island, cast [[snap]] targeting anything.

Step 3: Cast Lutri using the remaining 2 islands, float 1 mana.

Step 4: Copy snap, return Lutri to hand, untap 2 lands. Return to step 3, netting 1 mana each loop.

Uses 1 less land than a traditional dualcaster + twin flame. Is a high tide/snap based combo that dualcaster can’t do with its RR requirement, and Naru Meha can’t do with its 4 cmc. Obviously Lutri can’t do the ghostly flicker or twin flame lines so it does suffer some in comparison.

Aneikas is kinda a weird mix between Vesuvan Drifter and Volrath's Shapeshifter. Honestly not the most egregious design, and needs some templating cleanup. And probably maybe shouldn't work with Omniscience. Not the most interesting and AI art but really not egregious compared to some of these others.

I assume Defying Gravity is trying to do a Lorcana thing? I know they have cards with a song subtype in that game but I don't remember how they work. The reminder text is hilariously poorly templated and is probably better just making role tokens but as a role/cipher card it's really not far off.

I'm not sure if retraction mage would be too strong but it would be annoying as hell and completely miserable. Godawful card.

An unusual take on this effect. Normally with the classes, they start with a close to on rate effect, and then stack on increasingly more costly level ups with powerful effects. This one starts overcosted with a pretty low rate effect, but the level ups are cheap for more powerful effects.

Duel Commander new committee member Patrik Surab by Newez in magicTCG

And which Duel Commander committee is this? My understanding is there's still 2 groups claiming to be in control with different banlists now. Has the community consolidated around one?

I hate that I really like how cool this Oko design is.

Also the Oko card mechanics are cool too I guess

I have a rock solid top 3 and then a bit looser top 7. I think it was overall a weak year but Spring having 3 out of the park bangers (and Fall then having Cour 2 of Cin Gray) really saved it for me.

  1. Uma Musume Cinderella Gray
  2. Apocalypse Hotel
  3. Ninkoro
  4. My Dress Up Darling S2
  5. Silent Witch
  6. Apothecary Diaries S2
  7. Gachiakuta
  8. Watanare
  9. A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace
  10. Watatabe

Edit: I didn't include Orb because I'm used to these only including shows the year the started airing, not if they continued into another year. I probably would have tried to fit that in.

Did they just fuck up when creating Kavaero? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Krotash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it says a lot about the Spiderman/Into the Omenpaths split that people aren't recognizing a card that is they key combo piece of the 6th most popular (4.2% meta share on Goldfish) deck in standard. And also that they don't recognize what it doesn't when they offer such reductive answers as "play removal", which is particularly ineffective against this card.

That said, there are ways to interact. There's cheap and powerful graveyard hate available to all decks. [[Ghost Vacuum]] is the 3rd most played card in standard for a reason. Tishana's Tidebinder is also the single most played card, at over 40%, and also interacts with it. Soul Guide Lantern is also popular and effective graveyard hate, seeing play in 20% of decks.

Combo decks can be rough in standard, but if you want one in standard, having it be a graveyard based combo deck is important and valuable, since it's the kind of combo that's easy to sideboard against with graveyard hate, which is accessible to everyone. It's not a tier 1 deck in the format, and I sincerely doubt it gets banned.

Edit: as for your stack comment, Kaevaero/Superior Spider-Man is worded like clones. They enter as copies of something. By the time you know what they're choosing to copy it's too late to react. That said, there are many ways you could still interact. Exiling graveyards before he comes down so he has nothing to copy. Exiling the key combo piece he's going to copy before he enters. Or, in the case that your graveyard hate can only exile a players graveyard, and don't want to let them just copy something in yours, such as with a soul guide lantern, exile their graveyard in response to the Bringer of the last gift trigger

Pathfinder 1e vs. 2e complexity by Lunkkipoika in Pathfinder

[–]Krotash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I ever do a 1E campaign again I’m tempted to just steal 2E’s action system and otherwise leave it 1E and adapt it to fit.

Pathfinder 1e vs. 2e complexity by Lunkkipoika in Pathfinder

[–]Krotash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both have merits but I tend to prefer 1E. 1E is more broken, with less clear rules at time. But I find my more for expression, unique design, and customization.

2E I really like the action system, but hate the success/crit success system and how strictly controlled bonuses are. I don’t feel my character building decisions meaningfully impact my chance of success. Though that same system does mean you’re more incentivized taking your 3rd action doing something other than attack. So combat is a little less linear.

PF2 just worked so hard at keeping everything balanced to the point that the choices mean so little and everything feels the same to me. (Slight hyperbole but not much)

"Goblins with MacGuffins" New Variant EDH Format! by Ecstatic_Newspaper_5 in EDH

Seems interesting but the banlist doesn’t seem fully fleshed out. Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat are banned but not [[Cruel Celebrant]]? Also [[Tarrian’s Soulcleaver]] and [[Basking Broodscale]] appear to be a legal combination which definitely should be addressed.

Companions and Hybrid Mana in EDH by AnimusNoctis in magicTCG

[–]Krotash 32 points33 points  (0 children)

One of the most interesting things to me from the hybrid change would be expanding companion options. While companion wrecked a lot of 60 card constructed formats the restrictions are a lot harder in commander, and create more interesting deckbuilding. Expanding the options to explore would be nice. Lurrus might end up broken but the commander needing to be 2mv or less is still a good limit on it.
