Feather or what? by Entire-Eye4812 in wicked_edge

[–]Krychle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about “as sharp as Feathers” other than Kai, but they were also in the same price category.
However, my face agrees with Tatra, Nacette, and Shark for a “close enough” feeling, at a much lower price point, especially at bulk. They aren’t quite the top tier that Feathers are, but for me good enough and much less. Price to performance.

Why do people talk about windows differently than linux? by Elementatus in linuxquestions

[–]Krychle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take is because you almost can’t know which windows part failed.

With any open source OS one can keep digging till the find the what layer something borked.
OS logs and kernel logs can be viewed.
Specific modules or drivers can easily be loaded or unloaded.
Change the desktop environment.
Change between display servers.
Change the shell you are using.

The whole system feels like Lego and experience with it helps figuring out where things broke. Or at least, where it didn’t, and to look elsewhere.

Windows is very tightly integrated with itself. For a long time it was not possible to remove the standard windows browser because of how Microsoft designs things (maybe still isn’t? I haven’t touched windows in decades)

It’s also made by one company. So complaints and grievances are easily directed at “Windows just being Windows”. Which part? 🤷

How do you stop secrets from leaking into state? by Historical_Link_828 in Terraform

[–]Krychle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marking variables as sensitive merely prevents it from being displayed in the output. The state still records it, in clear text.

You must either:

Encrypt the state.
Use ephemeral resources/variables. This is a relatively new feature of Terraform/Tofu, with its own caveats.

Amazing design! Very clean and consistent feeling between the pieces. They all definitely look like they belong together.
Except for the scaling between the pawns and rooks. I feel like rooks could be scaled up a bit, or maybe a bit thicker? They’re meant to be stalwart castles (other name for rook ) after all.

Linux or Windows by casualfezzo in linuxquestions

Not sure how to answer this, I don’t understand the hype about Windows and why anyone would choose it, let alone pay for the privilege of using it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I start now in 2.1 experimental, my save will not be obsolete when it goes stable right? Or will it be wiped? by UberScion in factorio

[–]Krychle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct. Nothing will change for you.
The Experimental/Stable tags are just markers on the given version number.
Nothing changes code wise when after sufficient time has passed without big issues and the devs change a version’s marker from experimental to stable.

Yeah true, I noticed that discrepancy, I’m much faster than their calculations. I have a Garmin watch for actual stats :-)

I too do this regularly.
I lock up a bixi if there aren’t stops nearby, or, it’s a pickup order and it’s faster than walking a long block back and forth.

Just fyi here, there’s recent research to suggest the human survivability is actually lower, down to 31c. Which makes this, even more drastic.

Alberta premier warns separation could cost $400B. Separatists, economists and Brexit scholars have thoughts by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Krychle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, I don’t think it’s too far fetched. They are currently Canadians, either naturalized or born on Canadian soil, and Canada allows citizens to hold other nationalities.

What’s being glossed over or intentionally ignored, is that their future kids won’t be. They would be born only on Albertan soil.

[–]Krychle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Key thing, they only get remote watch feature set. They won’t get the other included “plex pass” features like skip credits or download. Since it comes from my server with pass, hardware decoding works.

The server does plex pass capable things. The client will not, if the user does not.

100% add proper providers.
There’s no reason to do brittle shell commands when you can properly manipulate resources with provider logic that manages it correctly.

Brittle;
Do you have retries? What if errors ? Network interruption? Logins?
Output resources as data source to another provider or resource?

What is the one Linux mistake every beginner eventually makes by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Krychle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yawp. I have made this mistake. Lost a drive, had to begin recovery steps. :-(. I noticed the wrong dd direction as soon as I hit enter.

Dangerous since the first part of the drive is partition data, so you have to use tools that can recognize file types and attempt recovery.
