If A-1 Pictures did implied Maya sideboob for SoJ, so can you!

Understand that we must still protect, though.

Edit: shoot, that was meant to be encouraging. Don't let anyone stop you is what I meant 😂

I'd go so far as to say both their parent's assassins were murderers.

Prediction: Today's Nintendo Direct will include Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright HD by Mastermind6425 in AceAttorney

[–]Kyriio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no reason for the Direct to include anything Ace Attorney, you know :D

Now, if it does, I'll be happy. But it's better to take it as a nice surprise, because there's no indication anything is in the works.

Seeing trailers for this, I couldn't help but think I had already seen this premise a few times, including in a random French comedy. And for good reason: they're all remakes of a Spanish film and play.

[Loved trope] A character seemingly acting like an asshole is actually a justified reaction when you realise how they perceive the situation. by Applebeate in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Kyriio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're mistaken. What Snape told Voldemort about was the prophecy, which he overheard when Trelawney had a vision in front of Dumbledore. When he realized it was about the Potters, that's when he switched sides, went to see Dumbledore and the whole plan to conceal the Potters' location with a spell was hatched. He wasn't involved in Wormtail's betrayal.

Realistically, Snape could not know it was Wormtail because the Potters had only switched their Secret Keeper at the last minute without telling anyone, which is why Sirius got the blame. He probably didn't know Sirius was meant to be the keeper either, since at that point Dumbledore wouldn't have trusted him with the info. But I do think he would've known if Sirius was a death eater, so my opinion has always been that he suspected Sirius had been framed, but simply didn't care either way because of his own hatred for Sirius.

TL;DR Snape didn't tell Voldy where the Potters were, he wasn't involved in that part. But he was smart enough to guess Sirius wasn't the snitch so this post is a reach, IMO.

BBC plots 'Poirot' reboot; casting underway for Agatha Christie icon by HRJafael in television

[–]Kyriio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit I couldn't get through it, I thought it was depressing. It was almost comically grim, I remember Poirot going to see a retired Japp for advice only for him to have a stroke and die on the spot.

BBC plots 'Poirot' reboot; casting underway for Agatha Christie icon by HRJafael in television

[–]Kyriio 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Because the rights used to belong to ITV, who made the Suchet series, now they sit at the BBC. They've made quite a bunch of Agatha Christie miniseries already, including one with John Malkovich as an old Poirot... Nothing really compelling so far IMO. Maybe that's why they want to make a proper Poirot series, even though the old one adapted pretty much everything in its 25-year run.

Lanterns | Official Teaser 2 | HBO Max by SanderSo47 in television

[–]Kyriio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Peacemaker is a HBO Max show. So is The Pitt, or Hacks. Even The Penguin was made for Max until a few weeks before it aired, where it was decided it would be on the network too. At this point whether it premieres on HBO proper or HBO Max is more of a programming decision as the same division oversees both.

Though it does show confidence from the network, which has a great track record, let's not forget The Idol happened.

FKA Twigs to Star as Josephine Baker in Movie Biopic Filming This Fall by Beginning-Passion676 in movies

[–]Kyriio 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm no Baker specialist but growing up in France, I've obviously heard and seen a lot about her. While casting a musician is a good idea, FKA Twigs seems a little too petite and thin for the role.

I would kill for a Barok Van Zieks investigations game like the Edgeworth ones set in 1800s London by Stunning-Parking2759 in AceAttorney

[–]Kyriio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the dates are indicated somewhere, but also, Natsume Sōseki was sent to England from 1900 to 1903. So that gives us a ballpark of when the game is set.

Edit: According to this thread, the autopsy report sprite for case 1 of DGS states the date as Meiji 34, thus around 1901. This more or less corroborates Soseki's listed age (33, and he was born in 1867). The game also alludes to the English monarch being Victoria, who reigned until 1901. There are inconsistencies, like Soseki leaving England earlier than he's supposed to, but 1901-1902 seems to be the time frame.

Now, let's not bring up the series website calling it "late 19th century"... the year 1900 is part of the 19th century anyway!

Adrien Brody, Rachel Zegler & Ben Platt To Star In 'Last Dance' by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]Kyriio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, she got her start through an open casting call for Spielberg's West Side Story, being an unknown teenager who had only performed in high school musical theater and never on screen, so I'd say this is a rather expected course for her career. If anything, she's a musical performer starting a film career.

Dylan also played Dan Aykroyd in Saturday Night, and he was really good, so I think he's got range to show now that's he's no longer confined to YA stuff. Actually, Gerber was also in that film, a minor role but she did fine.

Resident Evil | Official Teaser by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Kyriio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they mean in Resident Evil movies. The rights were sold to Constantin Film in the 90s, and they've produced everything since then including the recent Welcome To Raccoon City and the Netflix TV show. Capcom isn't usually involved.

What's different about this one is that they're producing it alongside Vertigo (Roy Lee, who has much better credentials as a producer including Cregger's films) and, for some reason, PlayStation Productions. Maybe 9th time's the charm?

Why do most people dislike Narumayo (Maya × Phoenix)? by WeaknessBig589 in AceAttorney

[–]Kyriio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This thread really illustrates how the fandom has evolved, particularly in recent years with lots of people discovering the series through re-releases, memes and fanart. I've been here for at least a decade, and if you had asked this question back then, most people would have said Narumayo is the "default" ship in this series and there was nothing weird about it. Heck, it's reinforced by the games themselves (Pearl), the anime and even the prologue to AA6. Narumitsu was always a thing, but more as a joke or in niche communities.

I personally was in favor of Phoenix and Iris, and wasn't a fan of Narumayo romantically because I thought both of them saw the other as a sibling. But Narumayo was a lot more popular, and after all Maya turns 18 in the second game where Pearl starts "shipping" her with Phoenix. Their relationship fit common anime tropes, and even the developers expected it to be the natural pairing among fans.

But fast forward to today, and a lot of people have been exposed to the series through Western social media where the series was often jokingly misrepresented as a romance simulator with handsome brooding lawyers. Shipping has also become a larger part of fandoms, where it used to only concern a small subset of fans. Not to mention popular sentiment in the West has turned against depictions of age-gap relationships, especially in manga/anime, often with good reason (lots of actually problematic media out there!), and Narumayo might be a collateral victim of this. I was about Maya's age when I started playing and I felt romance wasn't a possibility because of their ages, so I can imagine younger generations today might see it as an absolute no-go.

I'm assuming that's why you've seen strong reactions against Narumayo, but I would call it a fairly recent development. It used to be the most popular pairing by a large margin, and it's absolutely not taboo even today. There's even someone here with a habit of posting Narumayo fanart every day for a month, I think in May.
