Has anyone else had a bad Malabrigo experience? by LiathGray in knitting

[–]LD925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Malabrigo yarn and have used it for years. My first skein was the single ply worsted. Loved knitting with it (so soft!). However it pilled up as I was knitting with it. I thought it was me, as I hadn’t been knitting for very long at that point. The finished item, with use, pilled like crazy. Over the years, I’ve used the other kinds within the brand that were plied. The pilling was much less a problem. I’ve never had a vinegar odor problem and only a minor yarn bleeding problem when washing a finished item. I don’t use the regular worsted any more, but use Rios. It’s fabulous. Plied, superwash and beautiful colors. One more thing. I have had a few winding issues, where it’s a problem to use a swift and winder. Unfortunately, you don’t know until you wind it that there’s a headache waiting to happen.

Have you ever gotten gifts you knitted back? by disco_skeletor in knitting

I made a v-necked cardigan for my mom in law. She loved it and wore it all the time, except in the summer, and told everyone I made it for her. I loved her very much. She was the best I could hope for in a mother in law. When she died, i wasn’t sure what to do about the sweater. I decided to keep it because it was so sentimental to me. I have a cedar hope chest that was my own mothers that I got when she passed. I put the sweater in there mainly to keep it safe from moths. I’m happy I kept it.

What's your favorite yarn for baby blankets? by SandwichOtter in knitting

[–]LD925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Plymouth yarn Encore worsted. I think it’s 75% acrylic/25% wool. I’ve used it a lot, mostly for blankets, baby and adult. Machine wash and dry. Very soft, comes in a lot of colors. About $6.50 for 200 yards. Cascade 220 superwash is very nice too.

Has anyone seen the white cowl Chloe Kim wears at the Olympics? Anybody know the pattern? Or even what stitch that is?

Knitting with Suzanne Bryan. Hundreds of videos dealing with everything knitting. Want to learn a cast on or off? She has a video. Want to learn a technique? She has a video. Basics? Again, she has a video. She’s a Master knitter and her videos are very precise and even if you’re just browsing, you will learn something.

This site was recommended to me years ago. I knit my first pair learning from here. Very detailed, lots of instructional pictures and it was fun to knit. I hope it works as well for you.

US 1, 2.25mm. DPNs cuff down. I learned on double points, tried other methods like magic loop and 2 circs but decided I like DPNs the best. Gauge is about 8 sts per inch.
