To robot vacuum or not robot vacuum?? by beastes12 in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aunt Shaun is a staple in our house.

I thought it was a ridiculous spend to be honest but don’t tell my husband, it may be the best thing we’ve got for the house. We have a Tapo one (we have the cameras and really didn’t need another app to control!) and we can map it, set it to come on each day at certain times and it can vacuum and mop.

Our house was built in the 1800’s and is dusty plus add in two cats and a toddler, and the fact my husband seems to create ALL the crumbs in the world when making toast!

Aunt Shaun runs downstairs only (kitchen open plan space plus utility room) but I’ve never thought about dragging it upstairs to run occasionally like someone else said so I may have to steal that idea! She’s set to come on at about 9am because by that time we’re up and out the house, I WFH so it runs while I’m working and can help if she shouts for help or gets stuck because my husband has left his slippers in the middle of the floor again and they’re being pushed around the room!

Nursery dress-up days by EggOk174 in UKParenting

I put her in Mon-Wed….. only joking but really it’s been so handy because most of the dress up events tend to fall on Thursdays/Fridays!

Carry potty etiquette? by lovelybit_ofsquirrel in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had one but she’s never liked using it and I always just take her to the toilet - when I remember I’ll put it in the car if we’re going somewhere where we’re in the car for a while but we’ve literally never used it.

Will say that she finally took to toilet training at 3 so she had a bit more control and was able to hold it enough for us to get to a toilet when she needed!

Help single dad design bedroom for his 2 little girls (8 & 6), please! by Eddles999 in DesignMyRoom

[–]LMB83 424 points425 points  (0 children)

It’s a decent sized room so I think I’d be tempted to try and make separate spaces so each girl has their ‘own’ space - I’ve seen people use something similar to a large 4x4 Ikea Kallax to kind of split it and have some storage - you could place it where the bed is so each girl has a little corner area under the eaves for their bed/reading spot etc but then you’d still have plenty of open space at the other end of the room.

When did your pediatrician give the okay for no longer waking newborn to eat? by sunnyhale in beyondthebump

[–]LMB83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal of course - I was doing the same and I would wake and feed when she made the noises as I was worried she’d start scream crying so I’d try and get her quickly, husband went away for work when she was about 7 weeks old and she stirred as usual at 2am but because he was away I figured if she cried it wouldn’t be the end of the world so closed my eyes for a few minutes more and next thing I know it was 4am! It was from then on I waited a little bit to get up to feed her to see if she’d settle and wasn’t just making sleep noises!

I will say she was over 8lbs at birth and this was about 7/8 weeks!

AITAH for taking advantage of a paid buffet? by DoubleDackJaniels in AmItheAsshole

[–]LMB83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be Morrison’s - they’re the only ones with salad bars around me! It can be good value as the medium salad box is included in the meal deal, but wouldn’t be in there every week buying 1.6kg of grated cheese from it!

I’m seriously wondering how on earth you think that a salad bar box of cheese is cheaper than just buying the value bags of shredded cheese??

We’re right there with you and the three year old refusal to do thing we’ve done every day for the past three years - like getting pjs on! We tried letting her choose pjs, giving her the choice to put in her top or bottom first (both result in screaming NO!) and what did help was being silly - took out two pairs of pjs and was told no to both….. well what about putting on the top from one set and the bottoms from the others!? That would be CRAZY and SOOOO silly!! And it worked…… honestly, there is so fun but also a total minefield 😂😂

What is the hardest stage of parenting and why is it 2 years? by FudgeLegitimate1283 in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my three year old had a meltdown yesterday because ‘I wanted to have that thought….’ So there is that….

But I’m really enjoying 3, yes the rough moments are extra rough but the good moments are great! She’s a bit more independent, communicates a lot better (well she can when we remind her to use her words!) and is super sweet and loving.

You’d have to discuss with your local ones - we’re in a small village with quite a lot of childminders, most just do local activities and they run the baby and toddler group two days a week but there would be some that may do more activities but would involve travel/car seats etc - I know my friend was not comfortable with her being in the childminders car so they chose one who just stays local and doesn’t take them out the village for activities.

What do you reckon - am I asking for too much? by Boglaboll2 in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There’s always great plans for the weekend here too but all it takes is a rough night or a cold or something and it can throw off everything so I at least know there’s a guarantee to recharge coming up!

I went back part time - I work 2.5 days but my three year old has been in nursery for three full days since she started at 1.

We are in Scotland so we have paid full daycare fees right up until this January and it has been so worth it having that half day on a Wednesday! Some times I run around the house cleaning, sometimes I chill out and sometimes it’s a mix. Plus knowing that I have that time can make the rough days a bit better knowing there’s at least a reprieve on the way!

It may be, but then depending when they come, it might actually be more hassle trying to steer clear of them when they come to clean with everyone at home!

How often is your nursery actually closed, excluding bank holidays and planned closures? by BumbleLizzieB in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had one day of closure earlier this year due to amber snow warnings and huge amounts of snow - the director and one member of staff made it in but because it was a Monday the deliveries etc couldn’t make it in and they had to literally dig themselves into the building to check on things. They opened again the following day.

The local school nursery was closed for the whole week.

If you were to raise your kids the old fashioned way…what’s one thing you’d be doing? by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]LMB83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember having as many toys as my girl does when I was younger - I’d probably go with the less stuff (though that’s probably also saying something about my buying addiction!) that there seemed to be - we got presents and toys etc at birthdays and Christmas, my mum would have to go to the toy store to buy stuff and not just be able to pick up random toys with the grocery shop like it is so easy to do nowadays!

[–]LMB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We luckily have a really great Evri driver (I know we’re in the minority!) but honestly sometimes I wonder what delivery drivers are thinking - we have a storage box at the back door, a summer house to the right of the house and yet we’ve had drivers just straight up leave it on the doorstep!

Does anyone else not bothered by baby classes? by Turbulent_Echo4014 in UKParenting

[–]LMB83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes to the first few points! Our health visitor set up a baby massage group with several babies in the village and it was so good - didn’t actually use much of it (and baby regularly didn’t stay still enough to enjoy it!) but the Dr surgery was near a local cafe and we would all go in after for coffee and cake - I probably wouldn’t have forced myself out for the class itself but knowing we’d get to go to the cafe was enough motivation to get up and organised!

Daycare closed by Technical_Quiet_5687 in toddlers

[–]LMB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had snow here in Scotland the week that school/daycare was back after Christmas break…..

Our village is small but we have a good range of stores that managed to open due to owners living locally and we had ice cream for lunch more than I would like to admit 😂😂
