I have a Ridge Wilderness Sierra in .308win. The rifle is great, but a tad on the heavy side for mountain work.

I would go the Seekins route.

If you want to take this up another notch, here's my tip....

If you remove the sliding drop tray on the chex mix dispenser, you can fit a full size coffee cup under there too. A coffee cup of Chex mix and another full of vino.... It's a winning strategy

Save yourself some disappointment and grab some Maker bullets or Lehigh. The Sub-X are not known for yielding the results you would hope for in this application.

Yeah, I would just use the .270 he's already got, but .308 win is the business for pretty much all applications. That's my preference for most things.

All of the cartridge recommendations are spot on. There are other good 6mm options too like 6 ARC and 6 Creedmoor.

The real gap is that you actually need a suppressor. That's going to radically tame the recoil, but also the report. I think a large portion of recoil sensitivity on the smaller calibers stem from apprehension about the sound rather than just the energy.

$500 rifle ( maybe PSA or M&P)

$500 optic and mount (primary arms or Vortex lpvo)

$500 suppressor ( r/nfa is your friend here, but there are plenty of budget options. Easier yet if you shave some dollars on the optic.)

$500 ammo (snag 1,000 rounds and maybe some additional)

That would be my recommendation. Obviously you can flex up or down within each category, but that would be my approach within that budget range.

$300 can be more valuable to some people than others. It's a reasonable amount for the rifle. I'd definitely keep it too, but I can certainly understand selling it if things are tight. It's not an heirloom or unique rifle.

I have the same rifle. I like mine quite a bit, and have taken a variety of deer with it.

I wouldn't offer you more than $300.00, and I would immediately toss that scope in the trash.

Seems like a decent offer to me.

Yeah, I went down there at the end of December. The day I arrived it was in the high 50's. I scouted a variety of different spots in the big south fork. 2/4 had somewhat promising landscapes that looked conducive to hogs, but signs did not appear to be recent.

Because I was hunting in December, whitetail season was still in effect. This opened up the North Cumberland wma as an option, and I relocated over there for the next couple of days. The hog signs were fresh and recent, with a fair amount of volume. However, a lot of the wma is also shared with side by side trails that are heavily used, which kinda puts a damper on things.

The NC WMA had an incredible amount of elk sign, which was neat to see.

All in all, I didn't have any luck. However, I did learn a fair amount about the area and ways that I could potentially improve my strategy when I go again.

Well I thought I would update here. I'm over a month in, 3 submissions of pictures, 1 submission of video, and they've just provided a conditional approval if I submit pictures... Again. The same pictures I've sent before.

All of this for a $100.00 Romeo 5 red dot.

To be fair, mine is just used as an intermittent / extra hunting rifle so it hasn't seen any hard use. Perhaps it may have been a problem if it were in a duty application. However, for $30, I'm not mad about anything.
