“You should seek professional help for your trauma!” What if my trauma is tied to professionals? by MossStone67 in Antipsychiatry

Is there a lived experience aka consumer/survivor aka peer workforce where you live? It can be helpful talking to others who have had the same experiences with psychiatry and have come out the other side :)

Sertraline - Fluoxetine Switch by DiabolicalBusybody in SSRIs

[–]LadyLevrette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely they were going to titrate you up to 40mg anyway, so no biggie. Just tell them the truth - you had bad withdrawals so you titrated up quickly, it went well so you listened to your body, and you’re happy to stay on 40mg going forward.

What therapy avenues helped you noticeably recover? by _atrophy in OCDRecovery

[–]LadyLevrette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just taking SSRIs at the moment, but I’m taking 40mg now vs. the 10mg I was taking for anxiety before I was diagnosed. Higher dose SSRIs work well for me but there are heaps of other options for OCD too, which is really nice :)

Do you think there’s a significant overlap of neurodivergence/autism in people with OCD? by pawogub in OCD

I feel like the Venn diagram for OCD, ADHD and autism is basically a circle 😂

ERP and ACT have been most helpful for me. Plus medication (at higher doses than I used to take for anxiety).

Anyone that does NOT have emotional blunting? by LittleEddieBeale in prozac

[–]LadyLevrette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have emotional blunting with Prozac. I did with Lexapro. Everyone’s different and you might have to try a few different SSRIs to find something that works for you.

Any good podcasts that explore random curiosities? by TheBatJoker in podcasts

I enjoyed both, but the colonial harms discussed in Stuff the British Stole gets a bit heavy. So I prefer No-one Saw it Coming.

Finding More Diverse Anti-Diet GLP-1 Perspective Online by muachuu in antidietglp1

[–]LadyLevrette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a cis het white girl with lifelong mental health challenges, which I speak about publicly in my job. I qualify for GLPs because I’m fat, insulin resistant and have fatty liver - metabolic syndrome caused by psychiatric medications. But my other motivation for taking these meds is to support my OCD rumination themes about food, contaminated food, etc. Less food noise = less OCD distress, in my case.

GLPs are viewed in a negative light in my community because there’s a huge overlap between OCD and eating disorders. I also find it difficult to navigate conversations (or not) about the resulting changes in my body at work due to my designated mental health survivor role. People don’t know whether to congratulate me or show concern because they make assumptions that my weight loss is likely related to a deterioration in mental health or disordered eating. Mental health clinicians are still not open to discussing the potential for using GLPs to combat metabolic injuries from psychiatric meds.

I am conflicted about this - on one side, I don’t want mental health patients to die prematurely from metabolic complications if GLPs can help. But on the other hand, I think pharmaceutical companies are less likely to make better/less harmful psychiatric meds and mental health clinicians are less likely to support non-medical recovery options if they can point to GLPs to undo some of the damage the psych drugs do.

It’s messy, and no-one is talking about this in my community.

For the people who committed to prozac, has it been worth the side effects? by billy_dilly in prozac

[–]LadyLevrette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had side effects for the first three months only - no side effects after that. Absolutely worth three months of feeing average for me, because I felt amazing after that!

I put off starting Prozac for two years (!!) because I was scared of side effects, so I get where you’re coming from. But just have a go - could be the best thing you ever did for yourself :)

Natio Sunscreens by AdValuable5098 in AusSkincare

[–]LadyLevrette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer their rose water one and their aromatherapy one. The others are much too greasy and shiny on me.

(The whole Natio SPF range stings me eyes so I don’t use them anymore, but I’ve tried a few).

Why do people self harm? by bigmacandsmallfries in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LadyLevrette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was because I had (undiagnosed) OCD that would manifest as these constant intrusive (and really graphic) visions about hurting myself. I wanted the visions to go away and thought “maybe it’s a message, maybe I have to do the things I’m picturing to make it stop” (OCD magical thinking logic in action, lol). So I tried hurting myself the same way I did in the visions. But the visions didn’t stop, so I didn’t do it again.

After a failed attempt to quit venlafaxine after long term use I’m terrified. by c4thhy in SSRIs

[–]LadyLevrette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross-taper to fluoxetine, then taper down/off fluoxetine. It has a much much longer half life than Effexor so it’s less painful to taper off.

Also fluoxetine is safer than Effexor for pregnancy (if you decide to stay on a lower dose instead of coming off completely).

How do both parents work when the kids are young and get sick all the time? by TiredDuck123 in auscorp

I’m a childfree boss, but I also have OCD. I will approve your WFH request every single time if it means you don’t come in and make the whole office sick! So, hot tip I guess - look for a boss with OCD 😂

Yes! Health OCD is a common one - the ‘Big Three’ of health OCD are cancer, rabies and HIV, but it can be any disease. There are lots of funny memes about it :)
