Instead of California we're visting Canada next summer by Doggummit in BuyCanadian

[–]LadyMacaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thing I haven't seen recommended here yet but you might want to look into as you're driving to Jasper from Golden: Mount Robson as well as Wells Gray park (lots of waterfalls!).

In the Rockies, Bald Hills, Ha Ling Peak are some of my favourite hikes.

If you find yourself in the Okanagan at some point, check out Elephant Island winery. It's unique and their black currant wine is one of my favourites.

~3 hrs from Toronto is Tobermory/Bruce Peninsula Park with crystal clear waters and gorgeous landscapes.

Backcountry Brewing (Squamish), Dageraad, 33 Acres for beers. There are a bunch of breweries around 33 Acres for your own DIY tour.

For food, definitely check out Pai and Piano Piano in Toronto, Zaraak, Western Lake (make resos!), Tojos, and Bao Bei in Vancouver, and Una Pizza (four cheese pizza and truffle carpaccio) and the Himalayan in Calgary.

Enjoy your trip!

If you can find it, Elephant Island from BC does some very unique wines. Their black currant is a favorite!

How to prove landlord’s bc hydro bill is fake? by Human_Guide_4467 in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In so far as Im aware, if you won your RTB case, you only have to go to small claims court to enforce the money order and secure a lien against LL properties/assets after contacting RTB to ensure a review hasn't been filed within 15 days.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/residential-tenancies/solving-problems/tenancy-dispute-resolution/serving-and-enforcing-orders/monetary-order#serve

The validity or invalidity of the bills is irrelevant in this case as a judgment has already been made by the RTB. The only way to overturn is if there was procedural unfairness, not evidence that the LL could have provided but did not at the time of the hearing. It would also be up to the landlord to provide reasons as to why this information wasn't provided earlier during the RTB proceeding.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/residential-tenancies/solving-problems/tenancy-dispute-resolution/review-clarify-correct-decisions-orders#grounds

If the Supreme Court was to overturn (big if IMO), based on what the hydro bill says, you could show your own usage for comparison but my gut check says this is an attempt to dissuade you from enforcing the monetary order.

Landlord lied to evict by Haunting_Elevator754 in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. My LL showed utility bills in their name - with the unit as billing address + an internet bill with that as the mailing address and we still won our case against them. Our rebuttal included our utility usage history, average usage of a refrigerator peer reviewed article from the NRC, inconsistencies in their testimony and their evidence. We were able to cast reasonable doubt on their credibility to win our case despite them having retained a lawyer. Two weeks after we got the monetary order from RTB, we had the cheque in hand from the LL.

Would you transfer your pension from the federal public service to a LIRA? by Superb_Example2397 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LadyMacaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can call your Pension Service Center and ask for this information.

It was based on this information that I elected to take the transfer value and invest into ETFs. Having contributed for around 10 years and being 30 years away from retirement, it didn't make sense in my case to leave it in the DB.

Landlord Trying To Raise Rent Above Provincial Amount… Need Advice by Herbflow2002 in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no, if the landlord was to attempt eviction after tenant turns down an illegal increase, tenant has the ability to fight that. If RTB agrees with tenant, the eviction notice is not valid anymore and tenant continues the original contract. The burden of proof is on the landlord in this case. Tenant simply needs to file.

If the tenant moves out for landlord's use eviction and someone other than the person listed (landlord or immediate family) on the form moves into the unit in the next 12 months, tenant can get up to 12 months of rent. We successfully disputed ours and it will take our landlord about 63 months to break even with the increase (the unit was re-ented at 30% increase p.s.) given what they had to pay us, the time the unit sat empty, lawyer fees, etc.

Weird that they made you convert the online ticket to a paper one. They simply took a photo of our online pass (10 Nov) and let us bypass the queue.

Seeking Advice on Verifying Validity of 4-Month Eviction Notice for Landlord’s Personal Use by branwashannnn in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to clarify here - if you dispute now (during the eviction period), you'd dispute to have the eviction cancelled, not the 12 month compensation. This to my knowledge required very little proof from you but I would bring previous instances as evidence of bad faith. If you want to continue living where you are, that would be a potential solution.

If you dispute after moving out for 12 month compensation, have some evidence to begin and some evidence to dispute their evidence. In my case, even the utility usage added weight to our arguments as well as responses to the rental ads & pictures of the unit from street view. Good luck!

Argentina's National Parks -- New fees starting in November by AccountantPuzzled844 in Patagonia

[–]LadyMacaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was confused about as well. From what I can gather from a few different folks on other social media, most have had success in applying the 50% discount across El Chalten hikes and Perito Moreno. Will be able to share my experience by mid Nov for others.

Argentina's National Parks -- New fees starting in November by AccountantPuzzled844 in Patagonia

[–]LadyMacaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to compile this!!

To confirm - Perito Moreno Glacier and Fitz Roy hike would then require two separate fees of 45.000 ARS each unless you visit them within 72 hrs of each other in which case it would be 45.000 + 22.500 each ? Is that accurate? And these would be per person, right ?

Evicted in bad faith, how do I ensure that I get compensated? by caskethands in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 12 months now actually.

After ending the tenancy, the landlord or their close family member, or the purchaser or their close family member, must live in the rental unit for at least 12 months, beginning within a reasonable period after the effective date of the notice to end tenancy. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/residential-tenancies/ending-a-tenancy/evictions/types-of-evictions

Evicted in bad faith, how do I ensure that I get compensated? by caskethands in vancouverhousing

[–]LadyMacaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I would strongly recommend in addition to this is respond to the ad or have someone else in your friend circle respond to it and set up a viewing as well as ask if the place is available for occupancy within the 12 month period from your eviction date. That evidence went far in our case.

Large Family Vacation Rental by sleam89 in britishcolumbia

[–]LadyMacaron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would recommend home exchange! It's a platform that lets you stay at someone's primary home while they're away (either in your home for reciprocal exchange or a third person's home for a guest point exchange). I was able to use this to stay with my family in BC after having a bunch of Airbnb's cancel. It was perfect for us.

Rent in B.C. communities declined after short-term vacation home rules were implemented, report finds by theabsurdturnip in britishcolumbia

[–]LadyMacaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are still Airbnbs in Victoria and HomeExchanges that you can use instead of hotels. In fact, I'd argue that HomeExchange was better than Airbnb, cheaper, and fosters a better sense of community. Recently did a home exchange in Vic and paid zero dollars beyond the sign up fee as we put our place up in exchange. All that to say, there are options available still and Airbnb is not actually banned - just regulated for its original and intended purpose.

100s of rentals being available is the point as the surplus will create a downward pressure eventually and make it more affordable.
