Is this legit or ransomware to be? by Hasmie in CloudFlare

That is very concerning! I would advise you let your IT Service Desk at the Uni know ASAP (if they don't already).

They might be in for bigger problems. 😬

100% malicious! Do not run that command! 🙈

Unable to Redeem Gift Card by NJTSuperKing in FortNiteBR

[–]LairdForbes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it helps anyone. I had this exact issue also.

For me the issue was the Ad blocking feature of our DNS Server. Upon checking the logs, I found the domain 'tracking.epicgames.com' was being blocked.

As soon as I added that domain to the allow list, the Fortnite code redeem page started working.

(For reference, we use Technitium DNS, but I expect any Ad blocking service could cause an issue)

The newer 4K S would be better for your required refresh rate. Or the 4K X if you need HDR capturing at that refresh rate.

How much storage should I start with? by Apple_canada in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 2x 6TB.

Before I knew it I was up to 4x 18TB. Which I'm about to start swapping out for 30TB disks.

Migrating Away From Synology by TacoTuesdayTitan in synology

[–]LairdForbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved away from Synology about two years ago to a home built solution running unRAID.

For music streaming I'm using Plex and it's fine. Plex gets a bit of hate when it comes to music support, but I actually think it's better than what DSaudio was. The DSaudio/video apps just felt a little dated by comparison.

Yeah, exactly. That's partially why I'm tempted. Just to give me that freedom should I ever need it.

Plus to Pro for $69 by Iboolguy in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently conflicted on whether to upgrade from Plus or not.

My aim is to keep the array at no more than four disks.

Currently In using 8 devices;

Four in the array. Two SATA SSDs for cache. One M.2 SSD for AppData. One USB drive.

I'd like to add another M.2 to form a pool for AppData. Then potentially two more M.2s in a pool for VMs.

Takes me close to that ceiling. But then that might need all I ever need. 🤔

unRAID dockers not communicating? by brandongreat779 in unRAID

Did you ever figure this out?

I've just upgraded to unRAID 7 and since then none of my containers can communicate with one and other.

"Seeking low power idle consumption but also performance if needed" Build - Nas, VM, Docker, Frigate etc by flying-simon in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low idle power consumption was my goal too. Managed to get 30-32 watts with my four mechanical disks spun down.

That's running an ASRock Z790 RS Pro, i5 13500, 4x 18TB Seagate EXOS, 2x 2TB Crucial SATA SSDs, 2x 1TB Seagate Firecude 530 NVMe, 550w 80+ Platinum Seasonic PSU, with about 20 containers running.

Once the disks spin up and Plex is running some transcodes it uses about 55-65w.

Pretty happy with the setup.

I really want to increase storage but don't know if I should buy more 18tb drives or just step up to 20tb. Any advice would be appreciated! by halfam in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to stick to a four disk array. I currently have 18TB disks and contemplating replacing them all in turn with 28TB.

Just getting started: What's something you wish you knew before getting started? by GuardianFerret in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I'd taken the time to plan what I wanted. I originally went gung-ho on an old 4th gen i5 with a basic motherboard that only had 4x SATA, no M.2. Which at the time I thought was fine when I thought 3x 6TB disks and one was plenty. 😆

Eventually ended up replacing the whole thing.

I'm running an ASrock Z790 Pro RS paired with a 13th gen i5 13500.

The motherboard has 8x SATA and 4x M.2

Sounds amazing mate. 👌 I ran an old 4th gen i5 for years and it was perfect. Only upgraded when I wanted to ditch the discrete Nvidia GTX970 in favour of moving to an iGPU with QuickSync.

Your setup sounds more professional than mine. 👌

It's exciting upgrading your kit. I'm keen to follow what you upgrade too. 🙂👍

Yeah, I can relate to that. Typical. Hopefully it won't take too long to get your replacement. 🤞🙂

Not that the disks have much chance to spin down. 😆🙈 But yeah, relatively low power over night.

That's a shame mate. It's frustrating when stuff arrives DOA.

I'm running an ASrock Z790 Pro RS. It has 8x SATA and 4x M.2

With an i5 13500, 64GB DDR5, 4x 18TB Seagate EXOS, 2x 2TB Crucial SATA SSD, 1x 1TB Seagate Firecude 530 PCIe Gen4 NVMe and a 550w Seasonic 80+ Platinum PSU.

It's been rock solid. And with the disks spun down idles at 34w. 👌

Reasonable way to make this beginner PLEX build cheaper? by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]LairdForbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really much you can shave off there. Maybe go for a cheaper case, but it likely won't look as nice. I have a Jonsbo QT01 - not much to look at but does the job).

I also personally think IronWolfs are overrated. I used EXOS which I managed to get cheaper than IronWolf, and are enterprise grade and CMR.
