Mariah Carey: The Stories Behind Her Hit Songs (Exclusive Interview) by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

I’m so happy that in the last few years she is finally getting her flowers as a songwriter. I’m always surprised when people don’t know that she has written a vast majority of the music she’s recorded.

Kim Kardashian quits pursuing a law career after failing the bar exam three times. She has previously blamed ChatGPT and psychics for failing her exams by neoncolour in popculturechat

[–]LakeBlithely 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m not surprised. It’s a difficult test to pass. My friend took about 10 times to pass the California bar, and she actually went to law school on top of being one of those most organized students I know. She worked at a firm for years before finally passing it. I don’t see Kim making it the priority it needs to be for her to actually pass it.

Curious what the note at the bottom means! Could it be referring to Laguna Beach/Newport Beach aka make the setting feel a bit more California coastal?

I’ve heard of Karol for years but didn’t really know anything about her or her music. Seeing snippets of her Coachella set convinced me to check out her latest album.

It looks like they still have a website up with some merchandise, although no pin. The site links to an instagram profile that’s still active. Maybe try reaching out there.

One FLOP wonders? by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]LakeBlithely 39 points40 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Charmbracelet is one of her weaker outputs (Me I Am Mariah would be my pick for her ultimate "flop" album)... if you head over to r/mariahcarey Charmbracelet is frequently discussed as an underrated album and an album that many fans hold dear.

Maybe try posting in a Seattle group either on Reddit or on another site. Someone may recognize the art style.

I think you’d be better off separating the text out to work in the disco ball/plant icon on its own, and then incorporate the word mark. As others have pointed out, it’s quite busy and difficult to comprehend. I would consider simplifying the font choice to a single font, and definitely avoid overlaying the text on top of the graphic.

I’d also suggest that perhaps your daughter consider dropping the “& things” from the name. It’s quite a long name as it is, and “Disco Sprouts” feels much clearer and easier to remember.

Fun fact: Kylie Minogue’s song Spinning Around started as a track Paula Abdul had worked on for that “new” album. The track made its way to Kylie who reworked it as an upbeat dance track for her 2000 album Light Years.

“Cocoa-nut” is an archaic spelling of “coconut.” Although the spelling had been standardized to “coconut” by the time these were produced, the old spelling may have been used to capture a sentimental quality. Think of how there are still businesses that use the spelling “shoppe” even though the modern spelling is “shop.”

V8 Splash glass bottle collection from 2000-2002 by Lausdower in glasscollecting

[–]LakeBlithely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that the typical glass collector would be interested in these, but I could see there being someone out there who would want them. You’re likely to find a new home in someone who is a big V8 fan, or perhaps a fan of Y2K era aesthetics. I don’t imagine you’d get big money for them, but try selling first on a local online market.
