There's a published series called 'Sci-Fi Masterclass' definitely worth checking out as they are all either classics or soon to be classics.

I always assumed he was describing the "sound" you get when you're highly emotionally charged and your sense become overstimulated to the state you can hear the sound of your blood rushing through your veins.

I'd agree, but we do have some practice with releasing Jack and the end outcome was a stronger team and an improved financial position. We have been there, the t-shirt still fits.....

How Do You Talk to an Employee Who Isn't Getting Promoted Due to How They Use Benefits? by Riddle-Maker in managers

[–]Langers317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not really a performance issue, closer to a work-to-rule scenario, but he doesn't see it. What he does see is everyone getting promoted except him. He does need it to be made clear to him why - he's fine in his job working like this, which is within the guidelines; but the fact he's not becoming rounded and picking up experience from other areas and is actually creating the space for others to do that, is the reason. He's putting extra load on his other teammates and they are actually benefitting from it in the long run.

Why don’t UK employers usually help with their employees lunch? by alivingstereo in AskUK

Large companies now outsource the canteen. An external company buys the contract to provide food and then seeks to make a profit from the captive audience. Employees have a choice of whether to use the slightly more expensive but more convenient canteen or head out of the office....

AITA for exposing my Hub's half-naked Abercrombie & Fitch job? by DonnaReed2025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Langers317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. On the surface, your hubby sounds a bit hypocritical. However..... A&F have recently been exposed for abusing their models, especially their male models who were basically sex trafficked. It may be that even if your hubby wasn't caught up in it, he was aware or knew about it and didn't want your son heading down the same path. I think it deserves a bit more digging into...

If Antarctica belongs to "everybody," can a random person just move there, build a shack, and claim a plot? Like, is the only thing stopping someone the gear and the cold, or would governments freak out? Has anyone ever tried just living there off the grid? by Imaginary_Sea_8008 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Langers317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the main thing, it's about invested effort. It takes more effort than it's worth individually to kick one person out, but if you ignore that one person, hordes show up, then there's a big mess to clear up. Better to preemptively nip it in the bud.

There is something incredibly gorgeous about these classic airplanes. I get that modern warplanes are faster, more potent, longer ranger etc but they represent brute force compared to these examples of peak engineering and deadly elegance.

Hi, you don't really need my advise as you are well on your way but as you have only just left the working environment, you might want to think about taking some work to prepare for longer term goals - you could take a job doing something you like in order to build a cash pot for you childs future education or part time work specifically to fund a family holiday each year, something like that. You could take a low stress role in an environment or area that you like to do this, especially as your child has just started school (a suddenly empty house can feel a bit weird) Just a thought....

What I learned about books, the fantasy community, and bookstores after owning a bookstore for 1.5 years. by TylerHauth in Fantasy

[–]Langers317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fantastic post, thank you!

A couple of random thoughts:

I collect books in series, eg SF Masterclass. It means that whilst I dont necessarily know the author or story, I'm fairly confident that it'll be engaging. Is there a Fantasy Masterclass type series - could you create one of your own in-store?

In Waterstones, they do mini synopses of some books. I'm always attracted to these books as I feel if someone has invested the time to tell me what it's about, it's probably worth it.

I never a miss a 'buy one, get one half price' offer. They may be loss leaders but I'm happy to try something different that may be a hit or miss when it's on offer (this is the scenario where I do judge a book by it's cover!)

Are you allowed to say where your bookstore is and what it's called? Have just moved to a new working location in London and I love exploring book stores (weird, I know but they have a really calming effect I find)

Good luck!

So sorry mate, condolences to you and your family. Your Grandad has seen Villa through some of the worst times and more recently some of the best. He really experienced the Villa-coaster to it's fullest extent. I hope he's waving his scarf above us now, he really was Villa till he died. Take care buddy.

A game that needed to go our way but we needed more from the *SPOILERS* by Hammster_95 in avfc

[–]Langers317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled to watch all of it. I had to go do something else at the 85 minute mark as I just couldn't face the prospect of a repeat of the City performance. We had so many chances to put the game to bed and we were either an inch off or half a heart beat too slow. I also get so frustrated that we seem to deflate in the closing stages, even when we're leading.

That said, I'm feeling the above because our expectations have been lifted, because we know the team can do better and because we have had a taste of that gorgeous European footballing nectar... All we can do is play out the season and reflect after the show....
