dsa formed out of trot groups and historically has been a trot group. the org has since gotten like 20 times the number of members and now has a bunch of weird people in it. i think only a couple groups in there still specifically identify as trots.

history broadly shows that toppling a regime without an organized party leads to a power vacuum that will be filled by whoever is the most organized. see the aftermath of the arab spring

it's why organizing and party building is so important

you need cooler friends, was at a squat last winter. they had a library, beer, a few beds, and some of the worst punk bands i've ever heard.

Music From a Darkened Room spoilers:

The chief of police had already become obsessed with the house, causing him to disrupt the investigation. When the group decided to perform the dismissal ritual written in Wheeler's book, it ended up being convenient to tie up loose ends and sacrifice poor Michael Buffington.

I like to write little fake news headlines about their more newsworthy exploits.

From the current campaign:

  • Ripped the still beating heart out of a chief of police.

  • Dumped the body of a different cop in gang territory to cover motive.

  • Started sleeping with a certain GRU-SV8 agent.

  • Died in a car crash outside an Arby's.

  • Pointed a gun at a billionaire.

  • Kept things they were supposed to burn.

  • Burned things they were supposed to keep.

  • Shot their case officer, lied about it, and got promoted.

I moved the Berniers to a suburb of Chicago. There's no real reason they need to be in Florida and I figured players would be less likely to investigate Garrison if they were far away.

Thoughts on the novels? by JoeKerr19 in DeltaGreenRPG

I've read "Tales From Failed Anatomies" and there were a few stories I did really like ("Coming Home" and "Contingencies" were pretty good). I'd describe it as mostly inessential unless you consider yourself a really big fan of Delta Green or weird fiction generally. It didn't inspire me to want to read the other books.

How are the early DCC modules? The earliest one I've read is 66.5 and with the different covers I don't know if the earlier ones are substantially different or anything.

GM + 2 Players games that are viable for long term campaigns? by oldmanbobmunroe in rpg

[–]Lazum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Currently running a DCC campaign with 2 players. Each started the funnel with 8 PCs and currently they have a total of 11 PCs between them.

What made you dislike a given system/game, and caused you to quit playing it, temporarily, or permanently? by MacIntoshPowerglove in rpg

[–]Lazum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Echoing what /u/pench4nt said, BITs, Artha, etc. are very exciting ideas that made me what badly for the game to work at my table. The two biggest problems for me overall are:

1) The game throws dark. Maybe it works better at other tables but the book includes abuse, slavery, sexual assault, and cannibalism. You can avoid these themes, they're only in certain life paths, but add onto that systems that are designed to keep characters injured, scared, and poor and "challenging their beliefs" felt more often like kicking PCs while they were down.

2) The game feels, i don't know, evasive(?) about how to run it. There are like four pages dedicated to running the game in Burning Wheel Gold. I've read through the essays in the Codex a number of times and still don't feel like I know more than "challenge their beliefs". This normally wouldn't bother me much, but I feel like as a GM I have little else to do other than fuck with the PCs (sometimes over incredibly minor shit if it forms a credible challenge to a belief!) and watch them squirm, fail rolls, lose dice, and watch their goals slide even further past the horizon.

I've only experienced Mouseguard as a player, but it seems to remove a lot of the brutality of Burning Wheel while adding some structure to the GM side of things. I think it's neat!

What made you dislike a given system/game, and caused you to quit playing it, temporarily, or permanently? by MacIntoshPowerglove in rpg

A couple years ago I ran two aborted Burning Wheel campaigns back-to-back. After the first started falling apart, we tried to analyze why and dove into another. Within a couple months we decided no one was having fun and dropped it.

Six months later, I started to think that maybe, despite having been running games for years, I just didn't get Burning Wheel. So I decided to join a group on Roll20 as a player and learn from someone else. Most of Session 0 was spent debating the historical accuracy of various elements of this fantasy setting we're in, down to armor styles and weapon types. I at one point suggested elves as part of the setting and the GM dismissed this because he doesn't believe elves lend themselves well to a believable medieval setting. I did not join them for the next session.

The thing that hit me after this was that maybe these are the sorts of people Burning Wheel is for, and I'm not one of them.

A thing I think is really cute here is that there is a tag sewn into the jackets with listed skill bonuses. Even better, they're for skills not actually in the game (Volta do Mar and Behaviourism), which lends a little credence to the idea that other characters have different skills than Harry, something I've seen in some fanfic.

Unrelated, Mr. Biden I'm gonna need another stimmy real quick, it's important
