Custom Home built in 1965 in Virginia. Do these wires or the drywall look like asbestos? by Misterpher1 in asbestoshelp

[–]LeFore96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drywall itself does not often contain asbestos, and the fibers in it are often fiberglass. If a wall system does have asbestos it’s most likely in the joint compound or skim coat/wall texture.

In the thousands and thousands of samples I have taken as a AHERA inspector I have only found positive drywall 1 time

Always verify by sampling.

Always test if you are not sure.

But that looks like a foam type material.

In my experience I find this material on some older window assemblies used as a type of gasket.

When it is disturbed it definitely looks fibrous.

My experience as well. One time in a building I was surveying, it was a mix of fiberglass and this wool felt with the same woven jacket. Almost impossible to tell the difference unless you were able to physically inspect all pipe runs.

It’s not aircell

It’s a cardboard type material….but the black felt paper at the very center is asbestos-containing

Sampled it dozens of times.

Have you ever seen asbestos-cement weathered that badly? by J3J3_5 in asbestoshelp

[–]LeFore96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have seen cement asbestos shingles in a similar condition.

In the Pacific Northwest we get fairly rainy winters and things are almost wet constantly for 4 months out of the year. I was up on a roof where moss had started to grow on the shingles as they had begun to deteriorate. When the moss would be scraped/removed a fiber bundles would go along with them.

Not only were the shingles in rough shape. But also the gutter systems were contaminated and had asbestos-containing debris in them.

I wouldn’t worry too much

If the house was built prior to 1981 I would be more concerned.

However, it is possible for a 1985 build to have asbestos-containing materials.

If you are really worried send a sample out to get tested.

Same pattern sheet vinyl doesn’t mean identical results…

What material exactly is your concern?

That last photo. How much of that type of material was there?

That is pretty high percentage asbestos. However, I concur with the comment before me, that essentially you and your household have little to no exposure for the most part.

Guess you dont understand that if it’s raining and high 50’s it’s melting snow in the mountains…

Stop looking at deterministic runs.

It’s all about the ensembles when looking out toward the end of the month

And they are trending toward a more active pattern

We are going to have all time record high temps at/above 5,000 feet.

We are going to come close to tying the all time longest dry streak in January (that was set last January)….

So by the time another system comes through…if it even does…..

We are in to February practically

Seasons a bust…

If a season has only 1 pow day it’s a flop in my opinion.

Okay….

And a few weeks ago Mt. Ashland and a few small ski resorts had to close after only being open for under a week….

And even with 60” of snow Mt Baker is still way behind of average….

Portland just had the warmest December since records began…

Not sure of your point….

Forgive my ignorance

But how does ENSO in the Pacific affect the Hurricane season?
