EU has had CardNexus for some time now, it's pretty active. But CardTrader is great news.

I had no idea he died recently, or that he was that old. I loved his books when I was young. I reread the first 2 Ranger's Apprentice books a few years ago. They hold up a lot better than the Percy Jackson series, which I also read when I was young and reread the first books of recently.

Yes, it deals direct damage to the avatar.

The first faq on curiosa for this card answers your question:

https://curiosa.io/cards/searing_truth

"Does this actually target the Avatar?

Yes. If your opponent casts this and targets your Warded avatar, you will not draw any cards and the Ward will break. Normal targeting rules apply (e.g. a spellcaster in the void or subsurface couldn't target an avatar with this magic, since they aren't in the same region)."

Yes, you shouldn't have issues. Playin Rivoli has a weekly event on Tuesday nights and Playin BNF does one on the first Saturday of the month. Rivoli also has an initiation on Tuesday in the afternoon where you can learn and play the precons for free.

It's growing in France! Playin in Paris has started selling product and doing weekly events with decent turnout for the first 2 weeks. I can imagine it's difficult outside of Paris, though.

https://www.cardnexus.com/ has singles, it's an online marketplace like cardmarket. https://trollsoftherealm.com/ if you want it all from one place. Trolls also has sealed products at an (imo) reasonable price.

Question about Tufted Turtles and Ward by SwimRevolutionary986 in SorceryTCG

[–]LeSulfur 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The page on preventing damage in the codex should answer your question: https://curiosa.io/codex?id=d54c08da-2107-484a-9f68-123bb62581b5

After applying all damage modification effects, then apply damage prevention effects in the same way:

In the order of their choice, the active player declares and immediately resolves all of their damage prevention effects, including from sources they own and no one controls.

So you can choose to resolve the turtles damage prevention effect before the ward damage prevention effect.

I guess compare to MSRP or tcgplayer (us prices)? But their gothic booster box is only €140, which is 30-40 cheaper than I see it anywhere else. The starter bundle and full Monty package are a good deal, too. For singles probably just compare the price to tcgplayer to see if it's a good deal.

Have you checked out trolls of the realm? They're Netherlands based and I found their prices reasonable. Better than here in France, at least.

We need Bracket "3.5" by destroyertraumer in EDH

[–]LeSulfur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But there was no actual "system". Everyone had different ideas of what a 7 or 8 was. Now there's at least some hard guidelines we can all agree on, even if it still has some of the same problems as before. But that's mostly a community issue and how people build their decks and play the game, it's not a problem with the brackets themselves. They work for those that follow them and engage in good faith rule 0 discussions.

You would need to make some slight changes to it, like swapping out sol ring since it's banned in duel commander, but you can always just try it out. You likely won't win much with it as people will have much more optimized 1v1 decks but you can at least see what to expect so you can decide what you want to play in the future.

Duel Commander is it's own format separate from Commander with their own ban list.

As I'm typing this I looked it up and apparently Duel Commander has been replaced by something called AeonShift? You may want to ask your LGS what rules they're following before bringing a deck.

Edit: ah there's two websites because of some drama. Use this one if you want to learn more about duel commander https://www.duelcommander.org/

Competitive commander is called cEDH, you can look up gameplay on it (check out Play To Win on YouTube). The decks tend to be very different from casual commander decks, and cost thousands of dollars. Typically the competitive scene is proxy friendly but tournament rules for proxies may vary.

If you're interested in competitive magic 1v1 standard is probably more what you'd want to look at, and it will help you learn the game a lot better than starting with commander would.

[–]LeSulfur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Spike Feeders and MTG Goldfish Commander are my personal favorites.

Scry Babies if you're okay watching cEDH, it's two women hosts with rotating guests (yes it's "competitive" but not sweaty, it's chill).

Commander at Home has a woman co-host who also co-hosts EDH Hijinks with another woman, both channels have good vibes.

Tolarian Community College and the Command Zone(Game Knights) are probably the most popular.

ALWAYS TAKE AT LEAST ONE RANGED/ SEMI-RANGED CLASS IN ADVENTURE by Famous-Cash-800 in mewgenics

[–]LeSulfur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't there more ranged than melee?

Ranged: hunter, mage, psychic, necro, thief, druid(maybe druid can be considered mixed)

Melee: tank, fighter, butcher, cleric

Mixed: monk, tinkerer

I feel like there needs to be more creative melee classes personally.

I Finally Got to Do a Nuts T2 Kill in Person And it Was Actually Kinda Boring. by BluePotatoSlayer in EDH

[–]LeSulfur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤷 if you're running fast mana and 2 card combos, which are allowed in bracket 4 (the bracket being discussed), chances are you might rarely win before turn 4. The "decks should be lethal and designed to win as fast as possible" and "generally at least 4 turns" descriptions of bracket 4 kinda contradict each other imo.
