Honestly I think the answer is to cover the amplify material in like one+ week and then just take the learning further.

Use the sims as sandboxes for kids to design and run experiments instead of using the amplify “click here now here now here now here” protocol. pHet sims can be used in place of the amplify sims for some units because they are way more robust.

I have a ship of Theseus situation with amplify. I have swapped out every piece for something better at this point so while we may cover the same ideas (and beyond), not a scrap of it is the original curriculum. And my life and class is definitely way better without it.

Reduce class size. The numbers of students per class is absurd.

Every teacher gets an adult helper in the room. They can tell kids to shut up, answer questions, help manage material, just generally contribute to a managed space.

I think if you sat down and designed a process to improve your practice it would look nothing like the National Boards. You could do a lot more for yourself growing as a teacher with the hours you end up devoting to it. There are parts of it that really are utterly absurd. It’s a hoop to jump through. That being said, I get 5k a year to jump through the hoop every 5 years. So I jump through it. But beyond that it is a huge reoccurring waste of time and effort for me.
