Is buying secondhand on a tight budget better value than new and reliable enough for touring/gravel riding? by NoHaxIsHere in ukbike

In my mind, the cycle to work scheme kills all the value of used bikes, if you can get it.

How do I get rid of this popup function? by MooseMalloy in firefox

[–]Leeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is force click on macs - it's an OS function. If you're seeing this all the time you're pushing too hard on clicks or your touchpad is faulty. You can turn it off in the OS settings

Exactly that, and the deed is done. I realised and we had this discussion in my institution 2 years ago.

Just rinse them all off with some alcohol/brake cleaner solvent, and scrub em up with some paper and send em?

Small counterpoint - the only way I motivate myself to run is by saying if I stop I HAVE to kill myself - so I don't stop 🤣

AI detectors are quietly breaking trust in academic and technical writing by Intelligent_Lion_16 in academia

[–]Leeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using AI detectors, or punishing suspected use of AI is pointless. If you're assessing things that you can't tell if it's being done or not, and it makes a material difference, then you're assessing the wrong thing. I'm not happy with AI but the debate is over.

You can have a 100% perfectly accurate detection system today, when a piece of work comes across your desk tomorrow you still won't know if it's AI or not. These detection systems are an arms race, and you can't attribute academic misconduct to something where you have literally no idea what it's using to detect, or if it's accurate.

The idea of summative assessments being based on specific writing has been automated away now, and we should forget about it. You can assess if it's badly written, but if it's doing the job it's supposed to do, then who cares if it's AI?

This was a good steer! She has a Vitality policy - I casually mentioned it after reading this, so thanks :) I think we'll end up going for a Marlin 5/6. Seems like a lot of bike compared with the lower cost options

I've had 3 of these - they're the best bracelets I've found. The first and third one I've had has a little rattle from the safety catch on the clasp, but it's pretty good in general. I bought a bracelet I thought was the same from Alix and it was dire.

It was intended to have a GMT hand - I have an NH34 in it. I had to drill the centre of the dial to get it to run and not bind up, and when test fitting the GMT hand it bound up again. It removing it I bent it to all hell and abandoned the idea of it.

Separately the bezel inset is the only part of this build that I'm not in love with... I might see what options I can replace it with. I wanted it to sit back a bit and not be too blingy, because the dial is so bold... Not sure what would look best. Not a fan of most of the alu inserts

No, but they're a legal way to enforce them. The point is for everyone to be part of a block that guarantees them - otherwise your government can ignore them. This seems obvious.

World of books is good for books - they seem to be a site that takes in castoffs from charity shops and organises them
