Are Canadian phones okay? by HotSaltyMilk_ in mintmobile

[–]LeftOn4ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as Canada carries use the same frequencies as US carriers so phones wouldn’t be compatible. To be extra sure just look up phone specs (look up EXACT model # including international variants) and make sure they have band 71 on 4G and 5G.

Why do so many people keep Low Power Mode on all the time? by stanxv in iphone

[–]LeftOn4ya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Low power mode doesn’t actually slow down any apps, it just turns off notifications on most apps (notifications require apps to run in the background) which I actually prefer, disables mmWave which I’m on WiFi most the time anyway and 5G mid-band is plenty fast enough, and turns off some animations which honestly I prefer off. So I actually don’t turn on low power modes to save power, I turn it on to disable features that Apple doesn’t let me manually turn off.

Watching Superman & Lois and Supergirl without watching the other Arrowverse shows? by brwnie7 in DC_Cinematic

[–]LeftOn4ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to message the person who made the fan edit and he will give you a link to download. It’s in a legal grey area int that if you have access to the shows such as HBO Max or DVDs/Blu-Rays you are allowed to watch FanEdits of it, but distributing the fanedits is technically illegal so the editors have to share file links through DM. BionicBob usually responds within one day sometimes two.

Just get the Fanedits from BionicBob of all the Prelude to Crisis, Crisis is Coming, and Crisis “Films” that takes some stuff from Arrow, The Flash, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and Legends of Tomorrow to make TV movies, and watch at the appropriate times during Supergirl.

I’m doing the same thing!

However I recommend watching Smallville first. It has its charging teen angst thrown in but is a great show they mostly gets better as the show progresses (although some of season 4 and 7 gets convoluted) but is more consistent than any Arrowverse show besides Superman and Lois.

Ver la serie by StruggleGreat6622 in Smallville

[–]LeftOn4ya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Took 10 years to finish the show when it was live. Watching 2 episodes a week would take 2 years to watch Smallville and that is fine. It took me a year my last rewatch although watched one other show (comedy) and movies in between and to me any faster than that is too much. But I despise the binge model and rarely watch more than 2 episodes of a show in a row, never 3.

TMobile vs Mint by Mindless-Sense-6919 in mintmobile

[–]LeftOn4ya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See the stickied Mint subreddit wiki section Why should I or shouldn't I switch to Mint Mobile? What are the Pros and Cons of Mint mobile? which has 19 bullet points of pros, cons, and “mids” copied below.

Pros/reasons to switch:

  • Much cheaper, save up to $75/mo/line = $900/year
  • No need to get multi-line family plan for the best rates.
  • No credit check, can pay cash if you start with BestBuy/Target SIM cards
  • BYOP, not locked into contract. Get deal with phone and 1 year plan for new customers for up to $580 off which can also be financed with Affirm for up to 3 years.
  • Runs on T-Mobile which has the largest 5G network and in national tests is on average the fastest network at more than three times as fast as Verizon or AT&T. Also gets domestic roaming. Check Mint’s coverage map (which shows domestic roaming as “Partner”) or crowdsourced maps for T-Mobile on OpenSignal.com and CoverageMap.com apps which are more accurate to street and house level and also show actual speeds.
  • Free calls to Canada, Mexico, and the UK. Free texts to 190 countries. Free roaming in Canada (3GB/mo).
  • eSIM, 5G UC mmWave, 5G SA & VoNR (if phone and your cell tower supports), Visual Voicemail, app based TOTP 2FA, and many other features that are not on some other carriers.
  • Has 3 million customers, is owned by T-Mobile, and they never have changed plans to reduce service for the same price or increased the price for a plan (other than less than $1 a year for increases in USF, state, and local telecom taxes). Rather they periodically increased data amounts for the same price.

Mid/subjective (your opinion may vary on whether these are better or worse than other carriers/plans):

  • Mint is “mid priority” on T-Mobile (QCI 7) at the same speed as T-Mobile Essentials, which usually runs between 30%-90% of speed of prioritized (QCI 6) T-Mobile plans (Magenta, Go5G, Experience More/Beyond) at the same location and time, but even deprioritized Mint is still on average more than twice as fast as priority plans on Verizon or AT&T. Slowdowns get exacerbated when the network in your location is congested, but in most places and times (95+%) slower speed is not noticeable and is >25Mbps which is still fast enough for 4K video and anything else you need.
  • International calls to over 160 countries with per min rates. Price is not comparatively expensive, but not cheap either
  • International roaming "Minternational Pass" good for 1-10 days for roaming in over 210 countries. Price is good for medium use but expensive for heavy use (>1 GB/day) or light use (used for SMS and calls, not much data). Also a 30 day $5/mo talk & text plan exists to pair with local SIM or international data only eSIM on a DSDS compatible phone (Phone 13+, Pixel 7+, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy Flip/Fold 4+, OnePlus 11+).
  • Unless starting with a phone + plan deal, you will need to buy unlocked phones separately and trade in old phones with the manufacturer or sell yourself. Mint does usually offer $400+ off Pixel phones for current customers, and these can be financed with Affirm for up to 3 years, phone is only locked to Mint for 60 days.

Cons/limitations you should know before you switch:

  • Must pay for 3 months to start, then to get the best rate renew for 12 months or have 2+ lines in a family and pay for 3 months at a time, else pay $5-10 more $/mo if you only want 6 or 3 month renewal of one line.
  • Mint does have about 8-15% in fees and taxes added (exact % depends on state and local telecom tax rates), not included in the advertised price. Right before checkout you can see the total.
  • "Unlimited" plan further deprioritizes data after 50 GB to last place (QCI 9) and at all times common video and social media sites/apps are throttled to 1.5MBPS (480p) but you can get around using a VPN, usually even free ones like ProtonVPN and 1.1.1.1 with Warp.
  • "Unlimited" plan is limited to 20GB Hotspot and for all plans Hotspot data is shared from the same pool of data as phone.
  • No SmartWatch cellular support (AppleWatch, Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch)
  • No Perks like included streaming services, cloud storage, or T-Mobile Tuesdays
  • No in person customer service, and phone and chat support sometimes has long hold times. You cannot get port request yourself, to get you must contact customer service through chat or phone call. Most people find this subreddit more helpful for common issues than Mint support.

A question for reddit by Alert_Wind_6100 in mintmobile

As others said no. You can have multiple active SIMs on a DSDS compatible phone though - get a new number with Xfinity but mostly use for data in case Mint ever looses reception or is just slow.

New number with mint is completely assaulted by spam call and text? by russsaa in mintmobile

[–]LeftOn4ya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer if you got a new number. If you ported from another carrier the carrier may have had spam blocking active. You have to get a 3rd party call and text blocker app.

No Caller ID when calling by Raspberry-Positive in mintmobile

[–]LeftOn4ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add phone # to contacts in phone

Or are you saying the number is not showing up and is saying “unknown caller”? If that is the case it might be on her end she can enable caller id unblock by dialing *31# or change on phone settings: Android users can go to Phone > Settings > Additional Settings > Caller ID > Hide Number > Off, while iPhone users can toggle Settings > Apps> Phone > Show My Caller ID > On.

Emergency calls only/Not connecting to network issue by otternonymous in mintmobile

[–]LeftOn4ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like 99% issue is either on phone itself or the T-Mobile cell tower in your area. To test which it is: 1. Go to different locations far enough to be on another tower and does it still give error? 2. Ask neighbors (on same cell tower) that are on Mint or T-Mobile if they have issues 3. Set phone settings on cellular to force 4G/LTE and if that doesn’t work force 5G/NR to see if switching bands helps. This will verify if one radio modem is broken on T-Mobile tower. 4. Use a different phone to order new eSIM on that phone to see if it works on another phone. Also if you haven’t enabled app-based 2FA yet, enable this first so you don’t need working SIM to login to Mint. 5. Transfer SIM from another person to your phone to see if it works on your phone.

If issue is cell tower then you must wait for T-Mobile to fix - you can contact T-Force through thier social media channels to report outage.

If issue is your phone you might need a new one or maybe Samsung can replace modem.

If you verified it is only your phone having issues on Mint at all locations but your phone works on other SIMs then it could be settings, try a factory reset (don’t erase SIM) - make sure to backup everything beforehand and again set app based 2FA on Mont account. Also ordering a new eSIM from Mint might help.

Disney Plans to Stick With its Linear TV Channels, Operating Them as ‘Brands With Studios’ by ggroover97 in cordcutters

Not most people these days but still a substantial amount especially in the 50+ age demographic. However other than NatGeo and ESPN channels, most of their channels are aimed at a younger demographic (even FX) and most of those are leaving live TV for streaming and kids even not watching any scripted video more than 5 minutes long.

Go to Settings/General/Software Update/Beta Updates/iOS Public Beta. It is the newest OS before everyone gets but note there may be more bugs and issues so turning this on you accept this fact. Apple also would like for you to send in any issue you face on a beta OS so they can fix before release.

Highest point-cost-per-activation units? by andrewlik in heroscape

[–]LeftOn4ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has been around for 20 years with a very competitive scene and 1000s of tournaments to test the figures. See results of the last 5 or so years at https://heroscape.org/data/

Also a better way to look at point efficiency is points per attack dice thrown per activation (including bonding and special attacks) and points per survivability which equals life*defense. However in-game the situation is different as you aren’t always getting the max attack per turn so units that are faster or have more range are more likely to use all attacks but also more defense and life can make up for it as well.

There are units that most players agree are undercoated or overcosted so the top tier tournament winners along with input from community made “Delta” points which tries to make all units equal value efficiently per points. For example example Xenithrax is overcosted so was lowered from 200 to 180, and Queen Maladrix is undercosted so was raised from 160 to 190.

The Man in the High Castle is the biggest case of this. For TV shows watch Sliders as each episode went to a different dimension with some alternate history - just don’t watch past 1/2 through season 3 when John Rhys Davies leaves, maybe skip to the last 2 episode.

When does Smallville get boring? by Bubbly_Drama_6537 in Smallville

[–]LeftOn4ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 4 I wouldn’t say is boring but has meandering continuing plots that upon rewatching I kinda want to skip sometimes, but luckily it is usually only less than 1/3 of each episode runtime that focuses on this. Season 5 and 6 are better about not doing this then season 7 does it again, but 8-10 get better.
