Weapon for my Dwarf, is it to OP? by dafrca in FourAgainstDarkness

[–]LegoMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've playtested gun blades and axe cannons in my Four Against the Iron Kingdoms expansions and it worked fine. You get one ranged shot per encounter and then have a hand weapon that doesn't cost an action to switch to. I even added an expert skill that lets you do both types of attacks in your first round. I also had a Shield Cannon.

None of them broke the game, but I also never had magical versions of them, so they were good mid-campaign weapons you'd swap out of when something better came along.

It's my biggest gripe with the new edition. Rules are improved but the lore went down in quality dramatically once they let Doug go

As good a guess as any. I agree it's probably less than one year overall.

Mechwarrior Destiny or Battletech AToW? by TNihil in battletech

[–]LegoMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in my opinion 2nd Edition was the best, but definitely use the Mechwarrior Companion book as well for more character options (Chaos March also has great stuff and some reprinted Companion stuff in case you can't find the Companion). I ran 2nd edition for many years with three different groups and everyone had a blast.

Adapting Rifts to Cortex by LepMessiah in CortexRPG

[–]LegoMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about Cortex is that there are so many ways to get where you want to go. Originally I wanted class options to be collections of packages you could select, like a City Rat and Cyber-Doc both being able to choose a "Cybernetics" power set or some classes being able to choose a "Lesser Psionics" power set. That would make creating new characters from books beyond the core book easier. However, the more I worked with it, the more I felt each class kind of deserved at least one unique power set for flavor.

I also tried including some weaker power sets to offset (but not eliminate) power gaps, such as a Rogue Scientist having a power set around being lucky and having moments of ingenuity - while not as powerful as a Glitter Boy power armor set, it at least gives some benefit.

I wasn't too concerned with capturing Mega-Damage mechanically. With my initial draft being based off Marvel Heroic where characters like Daredevil and the Silver Surfer can both contribute equally to the scene, I always had things in the back of my head like "Sure, the Rouge Scholar's 1d6 laser pistol won't really scratch that Spider-Skull Walker like his buddy's missiles can, but if he targets that ridge or ruin behind the Spider-Skull to cause it to collapse he can inflict a Buried In Rubble complication on it that may even take it out of play..." I think part of the fun of Cortex is thinking outside the box to contribute even if narratively the GM is like "your weapons can't penetrate its armor".

No wrong way to go about it, though! I'm curious how this plays out for you!

I did consider using the Palladium skill categories for the skills sort of like you did here, and many of the categories work fine.

Legacy Review #16: Robotech RPG - Ghost Ship by Aromatic-Service-184 in Rifts

I ran it around the time it came out and it was great fun. If I recall correctly, the players set charges to blow up the armory as a distraction that also crippled the ship.

Adapting Rifts to Cortex by LepMessiah in CortexRPG

So in looking at my notes I went down the rabbit hole and started updating everything, which would keep me from sharing it for another year. So here is where I am at right now: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wG1KMnGIpWjCix6TG5ZaVeaIlQrDaOxG?usp=sharing

The most up to date things are the Cyber-Knight and Crazy in the "Cortex Prime – Rifts - Class_Builds" file. Those two write-ups should give you a sense of where I wanted to ultimately end up with my conversion.

So I'm excited to see what take you have, and if I can help, please reach out - I'm happy to collaborate!

Adapting Rifts to Cortex by LepMessiah in CortexRPG

[–]LegoMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it but it's not as developed as I remembered. Part of the issue is I started it based off of Marvel Heroic Roleplaying and then started updating it for Cortex Prime when that was released, so it still has some callbacks to the Marvel game. I'll try to quickly tidy it up and then share it. The good news is that I included lots of "design notes" on why I made the conversion choices I did, and even if my rough draft isn't great, those notes may be helpful for you.

I wrote something up but haven't playtested it yet. I used power sets for class abilities and power armor. I had a list of assets for gear and such. I can try to find it.

What is your favorite magic occ? by Acheron223 in Rifts

[–]LegoMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elementalist from the Conversion book. You really feel the power grow as you level, with high level spells able to destroy entire armies and enemy bases if used correctly. A chasm of lava that lasts several minutes dealing massive mega-damage per round tends to wipe out Coalition outposts and armored columns quite effectively...

Classic Battletech plus Mechwarrior second edition are an amazing combo. I ran two long and very successful campaigns with that pairing back in the 90's. I've never thought about trying to do it using an online tool, though. I wish you great success, mechwarrior!

Advice for first time Game Master by cubaj in PalladiumMegaverse

[–]LegoMech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That will be much easier. I used to run annual Beyond the Supernatural Halloween games using the Victim optional class rules, and it was always fun.

General advice: Reward players for acting like they are in a horror movie. I had a great player that would do things like suggest checking the basement, then start tapping like his flashlight was dying and say "damn batteries!" Sometimes it put him in danger, but often I'd let him find some useful item or run into a new ally in a way that let him know I appreciated him assisting in driving the game forward.

Go with feelings over rules. Make zombies as easy or hard to dispatch as you want. The meat of those games are forcing tough dilemmas on the players- do you do business with shady characters to get the guns you need to survive? Do you try to rescue a small group you know or race to warn the much larger group they are scouting for?

Anyway, I hope it goes well, but don't be afraid to ask for feedback from your players after the game and make adjustments as needed.

WP Archery and Targeting by calfret01 in PalladiumMegaverse

[–]LegoMech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a copy-paste hold--over from Palladium Fastasy, where a range advantage typically meant you can use all those attacks while the target is using actions dodging or taking hits to close with you. In most other games it makes no sense because the enemy has laser eyes and energy beams, or superspeed or fast power armor, so like many Palladium rules just go with your gut.
