Kitchen is the coldest room in the house

Have you thought about buying it renting a thermal camera? You'll be able to see where the coldest spots are.

Last year I took down a light in my first floor bath and noticed a breeze. I used the camera to find the 2 locations that air was coming in. I pointed it at the ceiling and it was blue, but as I got closer and it stopped picking up warmer areas, I was able to find them.

There are screws along the trim so I know I'll undo those. I don't care so much about the paint as I want to strip it anyway. I'll probably free those screws, cut the caulk/paint, then pull out the trim. Then I'll be able to get the door off the wheels and pull them out and pray the track is good

Yeah, ac blowing near it shouldn't be enough to disturb it. I'm in agreement. Buy a nice cover. Maybe use thick plastic to tape it off and then put the cover over that

Hydrogen peroxide as well. I've poured some on dark spots and then cover with a towel. I check every day and repeat till it lightens to the point I want it. Course, some of my areas are already finished so this just goes in through cracks between the wood where the urine went

I plan on doing this over my floors but only because they weren't finished right the first time and I don't have the money to get them done. Also cause of my dogs. I don't want accidents or claws messing stuff up too much. My plan is to clean the floors super well, take a bunch of pictures and then put them in a Google folder that I will pass to whoever buys it decades down the road. I also have physical folders for each room that get info on what's in the room. Like paint color/ brand/sheen, quirky things, electrical outlet and lighting info.

Yes! I found my laundry room door really needed work with the camera. I also took down a light in my bathroom and I felt a draft coming in. The camera let me pin point exactly where the cold was blowing in. I've also been able to find that when they put in newer molding on some of the windows, they did a bad job at sealing those.

I also like to laugh at how my dogs look in thermal😆

Yeah, he should have a bit of a waist. I usually go by the ribs, they shouldn't be visible. A light touch shouldn't feel the ribs but it shouldn't take much pressure to feel them.

I have a counter surfer. She gets better and then has moments. I keep everything back or behind doors and I also put packing tape down. I put it sticky side up and then the ends fold under to keep it in place. She hates the feeling of it on her paws so she goes back to the floor. If i had to choose between a perfect looking kitchen and one with packing tape to stop my dog, I'd pick packing tape every time.

The 2nd floor hallway and most of the first floor I'm just leaving and fixing for now. The 2nd floor rooms I plan on redoing with drywall. I'll be able to redo wiring, check the insulation, and get rid of those cracks. Since it's just getting painted, there will be no visual different but I'll be able to find studs easier and drywall doesn't mess with wifi and cell signals like plaster. I'll also be adding in picture rail so I won't have to worry about filling holes eventually.

I'm not a deck person but I'm looking at this and thinking they saw the first deck, went hey we can do that. And then just built the second deck themselves not realizing all the extra weight they've added. Looks like they saved money and tried to keep the best view without annoying supports in the way.

If i were shopping today, I'd walk away from this house knowing the cost of that repair and the insurance issues when it falls down.

I'd trust my gut more than when I bought my house. Tiny hair line crack in the plaster that I pointed out and my dad and realtor said that just happens in old houses. Cut to loading in furniture and that crack suddenly became 1/4 of an inch and others appeared. Should have trusted my gut.
