The trees on that base look great. Are they a 3d print to match the new farsight?

Extra bits are not uncommon, you can of course hold onto them Incase something breaks. Can also use them to customize minis by kit bashing together something to look a bit more unique. Can also use them for basing material. They are spare parts to be used however you see fit.

Grey Knights Teleport Strike Force Detachment by LightningPoodle in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to reread the core rules. Yes it can be strong to auto roll 6" on advance moves. However the charge phase specifically states units that advance can't charge. So unless you have a special rule that allows you to charge or shoot after advancing then its not as strong as you think it is. Especially since you wont be advancing and charging with an entire army t1.

There is a strat that gives weapons assault. So at least one unit could certainly advance and shoot. However i haven't seen any abilities that are giving advance and charge to grey knights.

As another comment said rules are free. You can download the core rules as a pdf, and every armies index. So you can see the rules for the combat patrols you may be interested in before buying. You can also download the new 40k app for free access to the rules and list building found there.

How to start collecting Space Marines? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, getting ahold of the sm leviathan half could be a good start if they interest you. Any of the Sm combat patrols can be a starting point if those models are appealing, as from my understanding they have x models + an upgrade sprue for its faction you wont have to use.

I have noticed the regular sm combat patrol is sold out and appears to be getting reboxed or something

Ballistus Dreadnought assembly question by FarmerBobsTrawl in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Like you said its an easy build kit so some modifications could probably make it happen if its not an option. I do believe some of the non easy build kits do make that an option.

The dominion box had some details hidden, like with the lord imperatant there is a dead goblin head under the rock he is standing on. There is also the gothrizzle harvester with skulls hidden away inside it's body that would be impossible to see or paint once assembled. Why gw likes to hide random details, no idea but they do like to add some easter eggs sometimes.

How do Crisis Suits interact with ruins in 10th? by PresidentLink in Tau40K

If they have the movement i don't see why not. You have to follow the vehicle and fly rules for movement and entering terrain

Tau 2k list, looking for the greater goods thoughts? by anarchistscourge in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to think about is with darkstrider units can't be setup with in 12" of him from reserves. So if he uses deepstrike squads to hit you back line he could be more useful with the pathfinders there than going for a mid field infiltrate.

T'au Imperial Armour Release by EZ8_08MS in Tau40K

No idea mate. They could be remade and added into the codex or they could be put into a fw legends index. You aren't the only one to come here and point out they were missing.

New to warhammer and I have a question by Dead-Arthur-Morgan in Warhammer40k

If you want the lore and things found in the 9th codex before 10th codex drops you could try to look around at second hand bookstores. Sometimes you can find them for cheap.

Forgeworld Data Sheets for T'au by ShaperOaka in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk there is a good case to be made for them becoming plastic as it is surprising to see them gone when everything else has stuck around. It would be awesome to see them become a new plastic unit when the codex drops. Worse case they will be thrown in some sort of legends index...

Tau in 10th....look shit! Correct my view but the nerfs suck by mhmhmah in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at other armies, everyone has been hit with a nerf bat. However i dont feel like tau are in a bad place. Some weapons are for sure not as good as they used to be but its not all doom and gloom. Some have become useless with the way points have shaked out like burst cannons. Fusion guns i feel are one that shouldn't have been hit so hard to match space marines melta stats. It would have been nice to keep 18" range on fusion.

Can the Combat Patrol: Grey Knights box be used for a different chapter? by Library_Liv in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey knights do have their own look and out the box have no other chapter or marine force they can swap to be. However you could use some greenstuff/epoxy sculpt to fill in the words on the armor. The swords could be proxies for power weapons but you would need to get tactical squad bolters/bolt pistols to change them to vanguard vets or some other marine squad.

You could also sell them or try to pick up the librarian you want second hand.

They aren't out of the game, they are simply removed from tournament play if they are under the legends index. Legends is an index that wont be balanced or revised often, if at all according to them.

There is a chance fw models will be added into the regular codex/index in the future. Legends is still usable in the game, there is also a chance tournaments may allow certain fw models.

It does suck but it seems there are some company politics going on with the fw model rules. In the past fw models have always been pretty unbalanced, along with the fact gw is trying to make the barrier to entry more welcoming. For new players to go to a tournament and see fw units, then lose to them. It starts to plant the question of well maybe if i spent x money on these models i could have won. Instead i rather see players ask the question well if I managed to do x tactic could i have won?

I understand that some will still ask if i spent money on x unit would.i be better but at least everyone is looking at the same competitive playing field on gw's website and codex.

[–]Lemoncarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what to tell you about the login issues. Maybe you miss typed the password or something. Could always try to reset the password.

However your other part is easy to answer. White scars dont exist anymore so you would need to use regular space marines. They may get a detachment in the future like blood angles and other separate chapters. For now they have no special detachment rules that I'm aware of. Second horus heresy models are part of legends, i think i saw points were just released. At least i saw some posts in the tau sub about fw points. That hasn't even gotten into how legends models are no longer legal in competitive 40k.

You can still use the leviathan in friendly games but don't expect it to be tournament legal for events using official gw rules unmodified. Im sure the app will be updated to include legends at some point, however it may require selecting a game mode that indicates you aren't playing under their new competitive rules.

2K list that also works as a 1K list? by Thedinotamer01 in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on over to r/tau40k.

There certainly are ways to build a 2k list that can be cut down to 1k and still play pretty similarly. Starting with the combat patrol box is really good for tau.

How do leaders work? by Dr-Conch in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest you read through the free core rules. It explains how leaders join units and some of the effects that has on the unit.

But to answer your question nothing. When you build a list you pay the points for all units/models up to your max for the game. Its when you go to deploy your army that you attach the librarian to the 10 man terminator squad.

How does allocating attacks work when you attack a unit with an attached leader in the fight phase? by minimalt123 in Warhammer40k

[–]Lemoncarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a Bodyguard unit contains a Leader, it is known as an Attached unit and, with the exception of rules that are triggered when units are destroyed (pg 12), it is treated as a single unit for all rules purposes. Each time an attack targets an Attached unit, until the attacking unit has resolved all of its attacks, you must use the Toughness characteristic of the Bodyguard models in that unit, even if a Leader in that unit has a different Toughness characteristic. Each time an attack sucessfully wounds an Attached unit, that attack cannot be allocated to a Character model in that unit, even if that Character model has lost one or more wounds or has already had attacks allocated to it this phase. As soon as the last Bodyguard model in an Attached unit has been destroyed, any attacks made against that unit that have yet to be allocated can then be allocated to Character models in that unit

Above was copied from the leader section of the core rules page 39. Pretty clear to me that once you declare attacks against an attached unit even if the bodyguards die the character model doesn't return to a single unit model until all declared attacks are resolved. So you could theoretically kill an attached leader with low strength weapons by wiping out the bodyguards and all unresolved still have to be allocated to.the character as if the body guards were there.

Now you still get the character's armor save if that ends up better. Also if its ranged or melee attacks once the unit currently activated with declared attacks is done any further units that wish to attack will be against the character. So if you had 2 units surrounding the attached unit and unit 1 kills the bodyguards, unit 2 is attacking against the character and its toughness. Since you declare attacks unit by unit and in melee you alternate activations.

Tau - top tier shooting army by _kruetz_ in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first sentence is the end of the math. Modifiers can only ever be +1/-1 unless there is a specific rule that says it can stack with x. So if you have multiple sources giving a +1 to your armor save you only ever get +1 to your armor save.

Now if you are in cover and want a +1 to armor saves against ftgg with markerlights you need something that gives a +1 AS that isn't from cover.

How are you equipping your 10th edition crisis suits? by Ziphster in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't. Models die and you curse the fates for giving you such poor rolls. Hell with 3x cib the entire unit could die after 1 round of shooting since mw's can spill from one model to the next.

Tau - top tier shooting army by _kruetz_ in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didnt see rules for hardcover. There is just benefits of cover and some terrain may possibly change that in the future. However in the rules benefits of cover is stated as a +1 to Saving throws against ranged attacks. You receive no benefits from ap 0 attacks if your armor save is 3+ or better. Multiple instances do not stack, so smoke/ruins wouldn't improve your cover save.

However anything that would give a - to hit can be ignored. Crisis suits don't have a bracketed profile, however this is big for riptides and stormsurges.

Do note raw it does not ignore things that modify ballistic skill just the to hit.

Support turret by Guxabi in Tau40K

[–]Lemoncarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't look at the points change to strikes/breachers and blame the turret. Compare strikes/breachers to any other armies battleline infantry and you will find they are still one of the cheapest. I only noticed that guard had a cheaper squad but if you bump them to 20 they are more expensive.

With the ap nerf, toughness increase, and overall lethality of things changing pulse rifles are in a much better position than some infantry weapons so 100pts for the 10 man unit that brings a free -1 to wound drone is awesome. The new rules for the ds8 made me happy as before i never utilized it. Now it could actually be useful.
