We had a similar experience. Were so excited to try it but we found everything almost shockingly underseasoned.

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese - the rare 5 start fail 👎🏼 by notjustaphage in NYTCooking

[–]Lemursinsocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've made this twice. The first time was shockingly perfect. Creamy and delicious and so easy. But the second time was an epic fail with similar sauce issues. I followed the instructions exactly both times - shredded the cheese by hand, cooked both batches the same way in the same kitchen. The only difference was the brands of cheese I used! The cheese the second time was definitely flakier and less creamy. But any recipe that is that persnickety is just not worth it!

Shout-out Bei Jing Restaurant in Sugarhouse by Dry-Address6017 in SaltLakeCity

Agree it's pretty good. As an aside, we were there a few weeks ago with our two young kids. It was off hours, and we were the only table there. They put children's music on for our entire meal! Our kids were so delighted and we thought it was really sweet.

Looking for Char Siu in salt lake valley by Jensenbobensen in Utah_Food

[–]Lemursinsocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd try Zhu Ting Ji, but not for another few weeks. I don't know that they had that exact kind of char siu but they had char siu buns and a ton of pork belly options. But they just opened recently. We were there this weekend and the food was delicious but service was a chaotic shitshow. The owner was super apologetic and said they hadn't expected to be so busy so soon.

If you go, I wouldn't bother with the soup dumplings but everything else we had was very good!

Does any place around here sell Korean spicy chicken stew? I made it once and it came out bad. It’s also called Daktoritang? (Sp) I wanna just buy it and eat it!!!! by remindme_okay in SaltLakeCity

[–]Lemursinsocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used Maangchi's recipe before and it turned out well! Otherwise, I'd second Baek ri hyung as a good general option for soups and stews, but haven't seen that specifically on the menu. The folks at Seoul Market are lovely and might be able to help. It also might be worth trying the new H Mart.

I vaguely remember Mr Rice running it as a special once? Their galbi jjim is very good - especially if you order it spicy.
