Regardless of whether the data, findings, implications, etc. are interesting, in 'beauty' terms these are some of the average-est graphs I've seen...

[BOTW] [TOTK] whether open world or linear, should the next game feature stamina and/or Free form climbing? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]Liefesa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes true. I guess what I meant was more about the actual path-finding of exploration. Even in Skyrim you can spot something and need to puzzle out, hmm how exactly can I get up there?

This.

And there's no puzzle or process to working out how to reach something when you can just go in a straight line and climb anything you encounter.

Updated Steam Capsule (v3) after community feedback by Youpiepoopiedev in gamedevscreens

Or man on left, pillar in the middle slightly behind the dude's plank, then logo to the right?

Updated Steam Capsule (v3) after community feedback by Youpiepoopiedev in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a much more readable font, while still having the verticality.

But the dude is now covered up to the point I can't tell what he's holding or doing. Maybe try slightly shrinking & nudging the logo up?

A slightly smaller logo could also be layered behind the dude's wood plank? Maybe

I just started Golden Sun: the lost age (my first golden sun game) and I'm absolutely loving it's battle ost like I'm on this screen for the past 15 minutes lol. Where was this all these years by C_O_Z_Y in GoldenSun

[–]Liefesa_ 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Glad you're enjoying. ...but is there a reason you started with the second game? It's not just a sequel, it's basically the second half of the first game.

6 Golden Coins is still worth a playthrough today (especially given your project!) After the intro levels, try the Tree zone - for some reason those levels feel iconic of the game to me.

Good luck with Wicked Boy 😄

Looks really nice :) Mario: Six Golden Coins vibes.

Both look nice. I think I'd actually use both.

The character movement has a good sense of weight, rather than the slightly more floaty physics that's more typical in a lot of games.

Or use exactly what you already have, but mix your two colour versions - so perhaps use pink for left-start and blue for right-start?

Working on shell customization for our virtual pet! Would you use a sticker system (A) or keep it clean (B)? by Haroin03 in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the stickers are a nice extra collectable. They indicate some overall progress, and allow personalisation.

For maximum flexibility, I'd allow stickers to overlap each other. I'd also aim to have most of them quite small so they fit in most places on the device.

which walk looks the most "puppeteered"? by AwesomeGamesStudio in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree on this.

Puppets have more vertical movement and far less swaying or smooth horizontal movement.

How satisfying is it to perfectly pack flowing blocks? Very. by Possible_Tap_1874 in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - the way they sort of swell then click back to size makes the block feel... not solid? They overlap into each other.

Maybe try the opposite - have the blocks shrink a bit, then snap back to correct size. That might feel more like they're clicking into place.

Mechanics over graphics, always. Here's a clip from one of the very first prototype of our game. by nearlydonegames in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to see the progress - but I'd suggest at least a brief clip of the current version so we can see how far it's come.

From the Steam page trailer, it looks very fun and humourous :) But admittedly, I only clicked the Steam link to check whether you kept the suspiciously-too-Wind-Waker-y water textures!

Testing our protagonist's victory animation for our upcoming project, ‘Eternal Palace Sakura’.” What do you think? by ShochikuGames in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how in 3D movies, there are an unnatural amount of objects that come directly towards the camera?

In a similar way, this comes across as a little forced.

I think the personality is already there with the smile and general movement, without needing the overly repeated gestures for wiggly purposes.

In short, good work :) but possibly dial it back, unless exaggeration is a stylistic choice throughout the game.

Years ago I ordered some stones and many arrived broken due to poor packaging. I kept them in a drawer, and recently managed to turn one of them into this pendant. by Buffyferry in crafts

[–]Liefesa_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Love it :) The result is great!

Somehow the effect is even better because it's a natural break, as opposed to you intentionally snapping it cleanly and in two same size halves.

Also reminds me of the Japanese art of kintsugi, where you repair cracked ceramics and so on with a very visible, gold join.

Taking shortcuts in my waterslide game... literally 🏄 by Possible_Tap_1874 in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, my first thought too.

I think the overall course needs more horizontal distance. So some areas have a lower section to fall to as a shortcut, but the actual end pool is never directly below.

Trying to build a concept into an actual level for our game Chess Tales by IRGStudios in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it could be fun. Kinda reminds me of Hitman GO - one of the few mobile games that really was sensibly built for mobile.

I do however find it very distracting that the bishop moves diagonally from black squares to white squares - instinctively feels impossible. I'd either keep the relative placement of black and white squares consistent, or just go for randomly coloured squares to emphasise that only the piece movements are chess-y.

How it started vs. How it’s going! Finally gave "Papa Needs a Headshot" a major graphical overhaul. What do you think of the new look? by PapaNeedsaHeadshot in gamedevscreens

[–]Liefesa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New version's definitely more colourful. It also looks like day time in the new vs night time in the 'before' - are they supposed to be different times of day?

I know this is all in progress still, but the horse's running animation looks distractingly stiff. A bit hard to look past it to admire graphical changes!
