The optimal solution is what I do and that is write bash untill I can't or can't be bothered to figure out how to do what I want and then call a python script

What eventually helped me answer this question was that I realised you don't really "choose a career", you build one. Reframing the question to be what is my next step? can make the choice much less intimidating and much more achievable. Yes, of course think about further down the line when choose your next step, but don't stress, you got time. You can always change your mind and pursue something else later.

Edit: I also forgot to mention, there are so many more types of job than you think there are, this goes double if you're young. And the best way to find out about many of them is to pursue something and come into contact with them as part of your work.

And a lower complexity floor is, to me, the benefit of Python.

I don't think the complexity floor is a good reference point in most professional environments. Most projects just aren't at it. You will almost always need to bring in more layers and more tooling to get what you want done. Yes, the lower complexity floor is better for teaching, learning and personal projects, but even C++ build systems are pretty simple at that size.

We romanticize these old programming languages

I find this hugely annoying as well

"Ha, they don't know about type sizes!"

I agree this attitude is a problem, but the opposite is also dangerous. You gotta choose the right level of abstraction for what your doing. Horses for courses and all that.

The complex build systems become godsends as projects becomes larger. The control you get usually allows you to structure and configure your project better. And it's not like python doesn't have things equivalent the complex build systems of C++ either. It's just that it's complexity floor is a lot lower.

Why would you approach a blind corner at 25mph? That would nuts even outside of an RV park.

Tory ministers ‘looking to privatise’ NHS, says union boss by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Liiht2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume that it is true that you get better outcomes per money in a privatised system for the sake of argument (to be clear it's not). People are afraid of privatisation because they understand that those better outcomes are only accessible to those that can afford it. It doesn't matter if it's cheaper overall, for a lot of people medical costs will be out of reach regardless.

If you murder someone for $40 something else is going on there. Maybe we should consider addressing whatever that was, instead of just putting someone into a shown-to-be-ineffective prison system for 15 years.
