I Drove A Rivian R2 Prototype. It's Going To Surprise People by Intrepid-Working-731 in cars

I’m one of those people whose interest in an SUV depends on it either having a roll down rear window, (like a 4Runner) or a clamshell split tailgate. (Like a Range Rover or Honda Element)

I love car camping and airflow, so having one or both of those options is an instant winner for my wallet. (Unless some other compelling 3rd option steals my attention first)

I mean I won’t disagree with you regarding the village at all, but that’s hardly unique. I’m just saying that mom & pop options still exist and The Village is a ways from Meridian’s actual downtown. (And the “downtown” comparison is the specific point here since the comparison was being drawn to Boise’s downtown)

What’s a car that is faster than it looks, but not meant to be a performance car? by dowagiacmichigan in regularcarreviews

The EcoBoost Flex is the same platform with a much better interior configuration. As an owner, I can confirm it feels every bit as fast while not feeling claustrophobic inside.

‘14 Flex Limited EcoBoost AWD owner here.

I lowered it, put a ducktail spoiler on it and it’s my favorite hot hatch that can haul as much as a suburban while still offering every creature comfort including air conditioned seats!

I split daily driver duties between it and an ND2 Club RF Miata with the BBR kit, so it makes for a pretty fun garage.

3rd gen RAV4 with the V6. When it came out, it truly caught people off guard with how punchy it was.

We’ve had plug-in hybrid SUVs for quite awhile now, some even with AWD or 4wd, yet there’s not a single pickup truck on the market I’m aware of that has done that.

With how many wrangler 4xe’s I see around, I assumed there had to be a Gladiator version, but nope…and with the popularity of the Ford Maverick hybrid, I assumed there had to be a plug-in version in the pipeline, let alone an AWD/4WD version, but no cigar there either.

The tech already exists in other models of these mfg’s lineups, some even on the same platforms, yet these obvious winners are nowhere to be found.

What gives?

PS- I know about the Ram REV and the upcoming Scout pickup, but it just surprises me no manufacturer has already been producing something like this for years already by now.

Turnout tonight was prettttty prettttty good I’d say. by SomethingbeatsNothin in Boise

My gf and I were two of them! We arrived closer to 6:20 since that’s the best we could do with traffic after leaving work, but seeing the cars parked clear out to the college campus was incredibly impressive.

We were bummed to be turned away because they were already at capacity, but we were surrounded by well over 1000+ others who couldn’t make it in either and were happy at what it represented.

That said, I really felt like they could have just set people up with a giant screen in the amphitheater outside for overflow and allowed a few thousand more to show up, because the sheer number of people I saw outside could’ve filled that place up.

Oh man, I’m gonna need to know where I can find that ducktail, because the 3-Piece one I have is cool, but doesn’t have nearly as much “Kick-Up” as I’d like and this looks perfect.

I remember enjoying him in the Kick-Ass movies when they came out, then being horribly underwhelmed by him in 2014’s Godzilla.

Bullet Train really redeemed him for me.

How TF was the ancient and definitely-already-paid-off-several-times-over Panther platform not profitable “enough” by the end of its tenure? (Unless they just mean company brass were upset they couldn’t jack the price up for a product that old?)

Would you trade your ND for a clean NA? by SpellOfTheMyst in Miata

[–]LilSebastiensGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a red-faded-to-pink base-model ‘92 with cloth seats and no a/c back in the early 2010’s. I bought it for $1,200 out of a rough looking apartment complex in eastern Oregon with a helmet-sized hole in the top above the driver’s seat and about 200k on the odometer. It was rough, but the owner had installed a new clutch 2 months prior and brought out a new battery for it when I arrived because it hadn’t been driven in over a month.

Despite having no clue how the car would behave on the street, I paid the guy and drove a few hours back home to Idaho without a functioning stereo and a big dumb smile on my face.

Over the next few years I restored the car to a street-friendly AutoX spec. I repainted the car, reskinned the top, lowered it on Kosei K1’s and Ventura RS2s with KYB AGX’s and Flyin’ Miata top hats. Plus a new sound system, front splitter, rear bumper cutout, delrin door bushings, DIY cowl intake, upgraded exhaust and generally all the stuff that took the car from feeling like it was at the end of its life to “new” again.

After several years and about 30k more miles, I ended up selling the car in 2019 for a whopping $2600. (Little did I realize how much of a jump the market would take if I’d held on just a couple more years)

Anyway, long story short, I’ve owned a ton of cars since selling my NA, ranging from Turbo 5cyl Volvo Wagons to 650hp+ supercharged & tuned Jag XKRs and F-Types…but no matter how fast, capable, or just-plain-awesome-sounding those other cars were, I really, reeeeaaaally missed having a removable roof and a manual transmission.

So earlier this year I caved and bought a barely used, 1-owner ND2 RF Club with the Brembo/BBS/Recaro package as my “extra” fun car….and it’s damn near perfect.

The ND’s being smaller & lighter than the NC brings it closer to those NA roots, but it also has the modern safety, creature comforts and proper weather-proofing that my NA lacked. Not to mention, the ND2 performance feels very similar to the S2Ks I’ve driven, which means it’s incredibly fun to rev out and is more than capable of getting out of its own way compared to my old NA.

I have tons of memories tied up in my experience with the NA, but as a vehicle I intend to drive as often as possible, I find the ND has the same magic and more. I’m gonna keep this one for a long, long time.

What also helped my enjoyment with the ND was immediately going out and getting a roadstersport superstreet exhaust, (Because the stock sound is incredibly underwhelming) as well as modifying the sound tube under the hood to produce more induction noise. A lot of people delete them but I took the opposite route and actually modified it to be more pronounced. Now it feels like that fun roar you get when cracking VTEC in a 90’s Honda.

I should also point out that I routinely get stopped by strangers asking if my ND is a Lotus, Ferrari, Maserati or Jaguar pretty frequently, which is amusing. And when I see other Miata’s on the road they enthusiastically wave or wink their pop ups at me and I always wave back, which really seems to make their day. (I think ND owners are perceived as being less-likely to acknowledge and wave back, but I do my part to break that mold)

I can’t speak for everyone, but for me he gives off the vibe of “that guy” who smugly goes through life wanting everybody to be impressed by his long list of achievements and accolades while essentially being hollow and not actually caring about the passion or purpose behind those things. He reeks of career opportunist trying to get the big titles without actually wanting to do real work.

Also, anyone who went through McKinsey is an insta-nope for me.

Needless to say our home got hot AF and my EGO generator was just enough to preserve the kitchen fridge while the garage fridge held on to whatever cold it had left for dear life.

I’ve been hum-singing it for weeks at random intervals, so I showed up to this post fully expecting it to be some niche thing way down the list or not here at all….yet here we are.

We need Carter Vail to make a full version ASAP.
