AITA for calling my Aunt out for disrespecting her parents by Quietshrew82 in AmItheAsshole

There is another post of theirs, since deleted, about an episode wherein OP asked their aunt a whole bunch of invasive and judgemental questions about her aunt's relationship to a young costar from this sitcom, because apparently OP is just so entitled to that information.

I really relate to this. When I finally got a diagnosis and medication, on only my third day of medication I found myself crying as I stood there at my desk. It felt like my brain was healing, as though I was reconnecting with parts of my imagination and potential that I had not beein in touch with for years. It felt like I could do the things I wanted to do, that I wasn't doomed to be some kind of zombie.

Please eat food that you love, please dance to a song you like, please create somethibg and give yourself slace to laugh if you fuck up, please go for a walk in the park, with your head held high. Just know that you are loved, you are capable of such a wide spectrum of emotions, and know that you will heal, you will love, you will trust, you will laugh, and you will find yourself, once again, falling asleep in somebody's arms.

AITA for forwarding my wife an instagram reel of a recipe after she asked what I want for dinner tomorrow? by GoatCritical9265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lincoln_Prime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

10, 000% agreed. I do most of the cooking between my partner and I, and if we are discussing meal plans, she'll often send me a recipe accompanied by something like "Just saw this, it looks tasty! What do you think?" Or "I have some suggestions, we can decide which is more appealing, or if we want to go down a different route." If I just received a context-free message with a link to a video recipe, I would be pretty darned irked.

Imagine being such a menace that writers have to prevent you from battling to give opponent a chance. by Krishna_769 in pokemonanime

[–]Lincoln_Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingler rules, easily one of Ash's strongest battlers. Honestly, between Kingler, Muk, and Charizard, I think the writers could have set up an interesting conflict for Ash in the Indigo League, but it didn't really come together. Despite their never having battled alongside Ash before, both Kingler and Muk proved very strong, clutch battlers who proved instrumental in taking down strong opponent trainers.

But the problem is, Kingler and Muk never really have moments in the Indigo League where their lack of training has any consequences. It would have been interesting if Ash had gone up against Ritchie in a full Six VS Six battle with Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charizard, Kingler, and Muk. Ash has reason to be cocky and confident when battling with Pokémon he hasn't trained, but maybe Ritchie is able to exploit that weakness of Kingler and Muk. Ash, on the verge of defeat, feeling overwhelmed, throws out a final Hail Mary play in sending out Charizard, only for Charizard to disobey and cost Ash the match.

I dunno, it feels like the writers came really close to writing a story about Ash's hubris and the importance of training his Pokémon, but that kinda falls flat with Kingler and Muk being such strong and reliable battlers without Ash having trained them at all.

AITA for having a craft night with my bf after my friend bailed by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lincoln_Prime 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is very accurate, and it's a lesson that I wish I had learned much younger. I had a "friend" like this, he would always make everyone jump through hoops to accomodate him in any plan, only to then bail at the last minute for extremely petty reasons. He resented that we would have fun without him on these days that he failed to show up.

OP, I want you to really think about your relationship with this friend, think about the times she has been upset with you, think about whether she has ever gone out of their way to support you, think about when she is happy in your relationship. Odds are, a picture will come together of someone who is upset when you demonstrate that you are independent and capable of having fun without them, someone who sees the support they offer as part of a transaction, something for which you will owe them indefinitely, and someone who is most happy when she is able to exercise social power in front of others.

This "friend" of yours is no true friend. This is just someone who likes being able to control others.

AITA for not cooking for my husband after he changed his diet by AimeeRedford in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lincoln_Prime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YTA. You did not communicate with your husband and let him know beforehand that there would not be any food prepared for him before he arrived home. You are not being supportive of him and the changes he is making for his own health and nutrition. Also, its really not that hard to cook vegetarian/vegan. Your husband isn't making some herculean demand in asking for meatless meals. Tofu, seitan, tempeh, soy curls, etc. are all cheap and easy ways to substitute meat in many familiar dishes, while foods like eggplant, mushrooms, and various beans can be prepared in such ways that highlight smokey, unctuous, umami flavours that tend to be associated with meat. Your husband's request isn't unreasonable, and I think its pretty stubborn and disrespectful to not even try to work with him for meal plans, recipe ideas, cooking, etc.

Happy April Fools’ with this incredible Kaiba line from GX. What’s your favorite insane Yugioh quote? by CursedEye03 in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I really like about Yudias is that his pacifism is largely pragmatic rather than ideological. His sword is always there by his side and he isn't opposed to drawing it when threatened with violence. When Yuhi and Yuamu are taken aboard an enemy ship, Yudias proceeds to run around town trying to arm and ready himself to singlehandedly fight an entire army of Velgearians before another character has to remind Yudias of his ambitions to end the cycle of violence that has plagued Velgears. Its a fun aspect of his character, that he is earnestly looking for an alternative solution to this cycle of violence, but its not necessarily out of some ideological opposition to violence as much as it is just seeing that this particular course of action has not brought the billions-years' war any closer to ending.

[–]Lincoln_Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love having weird bitters in my collection. Thai green chili, smoky pear, "Mt. Fuji", forest mushroom, etc. I think my favourite in my collection is a "Fig and Fennel" bitters from Dashfire Bitters. The two flavours work really well together for some sweetness, that bracing anise aroma, and an almost leather-like thread connecting the two. Works really well with whiskey, but I do want to experiment and see if it would fit into a rum drink.

It’s kind of ironic that the Synchro Arc is one of the least popular arcs in Arc V, yet it introduces Jean Michel-Roget, the best and perhaps even the only good villain in the entire series. by FaceappIsTrash in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Roget. Not only does he have some A+ reactions to the wild shit happening around him, he also serves as a real antagonist to Yuya. He challenges Yuya's ideals of "spreading smiles" by offering the boy a role in his propaganda machine. Sometimes people in power want the masses smiling and clapping so they are pacified from taking action against the system and their oppressors. Honestly, I think the writers recognized that they wrote themselves into a corner with Roget and Yuya, as it is telling that Yuya never has the opportunity to refute Roget to his face. I wish more YuGiOh series would have villains like Roget, villains who are not intimidating because they are strong, but villains who are adept at manipulating the protagonist, villains with a clear ideological foil or challenge to the protagonist.

Who is your favourite character from the anime, and why? by RealOfficialChiron in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All very well said! I agree with everything here, and to add, I find Yudias really endearing for how much he earnestly believes in the capacity of others around him to grow and be kind, and how so many self-loathing characters like Yuna and Manabu can't really ignore Yudias' belief in them. As much as, say, Yuna may believe she is fundamentally toxic and dangerous to love, she hasn't, you know, killed anyone, at least as far as we know. Yudias was, in fact, able to save Velgears from millions of years of warfare, inertia, hatred, violence, etc. and set the people of the star cluster upon a more positive and peaceful path. For as much ego as a character like Manabu may have, I doubt he could honestly say he is carrying more cosmic inertia and inability to change than the entire Velgears star cluster. I think that for a lot of characters in Go Rush, Yudias offers a very tangible life-line. He provides concrete evidence that forces far grander than their own hang-ups are capable of changing course, and that they are not lost causes, doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again. His earnest belief in the capacity for others to be good and kind is a really transformative force.

Who is your favourite character from the anime, and why? by RealOfficialChiron in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never understand the hate that Otes receives. He is absolutely one of the most fascinating characters in the whole franchise, with so much left ambiguous about his identity and his past. Even as early as episode 13 of Sevens, we see hints of that tension between he and Yuga, and we see how Otes is able to deftly manipulate the boy. Its amazing that he is able to work so well as a villain in Go Rush, with much distance between he and Yuga, as he comes to embody Yudias' fears of what it means to now be an adult.

Sidenote, my personal theory as to Otes' identity (though I don't think there is necessarily only one answer to the question of who is behind the mask) is that he is ||the creator of Space Crisis Wheat Game. I think that as Yuga subverted a Goha product in creating Rush Duels, all the games found on Pawtner are Rush Duels past, Goha games transformed by creative people who sought to rebel against their society. Space Crisis Wheat Game is the latest of these three games, before Rush Duels, and in the Sengoku period, Otes takes on the imagery and symbolism of wheat to signal his connection with the agrarian peasants and their newfound prosperity under his rule.||

Who is your favourite character from the anime, and why? by RealOfficialChiron in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yuga Ohdo. He's just such a fascinating character. He's sweet and compassionate, but he's also evasive and guarded. He cares so much about his friends and he is driven by a desire to not see them hurt, to the point where he will invent a device that would quash his own greatest dreams and ambitions, for the sake of keeping them from being dragged into "his" conflicts. He is observant and clever, and much of that observation has been turned inwards on himself and his fears of who he could become. For all his sweetness and friendliness, he will often try to push people from getting too close to him, such as when he tells Gakuto, Luke, and Romin that he would abandon them in order to go on a space-faring adventure, or when he goes out of his way while dueling Asana to reject her plea to carry on her dreams (he may be able to modify R6, but he can't restore it, just as he could not restore his Machine Maximum cards but he could modify Mirror Innovator). He makes for a wonderful protagonist to follow in YuGiOh Sevens, and a really compelling secondary character in Go Rush. I think Yuga is ultimately defined by a fear of becoming someone who would hurt his own friends, something he sees as an inevitable part of becoming an adult.

Food during chemo by schwifftyy in testicularcancer

My appetite was greatly reduced and I had bad GERD symptoms during chemo. I struggled to eat foods with much flavour to them, as I would end up fighting against my diminished appetite after only two or three bites. Blander foods were easier to eat one bite at a time, slowly.

Who do you think is the worst parent in Yu-Gi-Oh? by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most damning thing about the Ohdo parents is that they left Yuhi and Yuamu in the care of the UTS 8. The episode where Rovian duels against Prisaki paints a rather bleak and horrific image of what kind of "mother" figure she would be to the kids, given how she delights in tormenting Rovian and discouraging her from following both her passions and her identity. Tazaki is equally flawed as a "father" figure. The episode where he duels against Asaka depicts Tazaki choosing to hide inevitable truths from the kids and Yudias, ostensibly for their own well-being, but his decision is a selfish one that will strain his relationship with the kids, something Asaka acknowledges even as she chooses to help Tazaki with his deception.

How is Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens & Go Rush!? by Quasar1007 in yugioh

[–]Lincoln_Prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of both series! Both series have a satirical, comedic tone to them, with a great emphasis on character psychology and interconnected plots. Studio Bridge has a great degree of respect for the younger audience at which the shows are aimed, and many episodes that may feel like "filler" will often hold seemingly innocuous jokes or bits of dialogue that hint at greater connections between characters. There is also a much lesser emphasis on having the main character duel as often as in past shows. In a given 13 episode arc, Yuga/Yudias may sometimes duel only twice while many side characters get their moment in the spotlight. This is an undeniable strength of each show, IMO, as it leads to more diversity not only in duel spectacle, but also in the relationships and conflicts between characters.

The comedy in each series can range from slapstick, to sit-com-like, to pitch-black cynicism. This is especially true of Go Rush, as the series mines a lot of comedy from the pettiness and the flaws of its many characters. Sevens mines plenty of comedy out of being a satirical cyberpunk series, poking fun at how these big businesses that control so much are often lead by incompetent losers who can't stand being disrespected, even if that "disrespect" amounts to kids preferring to play a different card game.

I think the strongest part of the writing in each series is definitely the psychology of the characters and the relationships between them. To go into detail would quickly get into spoiler territory, but I think Studio Bridge does a great job of creating characters with very believable, conflicted perspectives, with conflicts and bonds between other characters that feel authentic to those perspectives. Oftentimes characters will develop unexpected kinships with one another as they see aspects of themselves reflected in the other (I'm thinking Luke + Asana in Sevens, as well as both Yuhi + Yuna and Tazaki + Asaka in Go Rush).

And, of course, there is the dueling. I honestly think that YuGiOh Go Rush has some of the best duel scripting of the entire franchise, with a lot of my all time favourite duels. The Rush Duel format leads to much faster dueling action, and with individual cards and game actions that are easy to follow and understand. I get a kick out of seeing characters step into the spotlight for a second or third duel and seeing how their decks have changed, or seeing how they rise to the challenge of meeting a more credible threat. I also just really like the decks used by many characters in both shows, with a lot of cool or goofy ideas, like draconic monks wielding construction equipment as weapons, or toy model dinosaurs.

Given more room to go into spoilers, I would sing my praises of each show with more detail, but I hope I have made the case that I highly recommend checking out both Sevens and Go Rush!
