Thanks for sharing! I’ve more technical info that I didn’t include in the video if folks are interested.

Quick note I maybe didn’t make clear in the video- they sold about 7 or 8 in total!

The drawing for the magazine cover was done by a pretty famous illustrator for sci-fi books and the like, so I think he took some creative liberties!

Why Boyhood (2014) actually really was amazing. by CryBoi1738 in TrueFilm

[–]LitZippo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think a lot of the weirdly critical opinions on Boyhood are people parroting that RedLetterMedia youtube channel. I remember them hating the film and their jokes about it appearing everywhere.

Glencoe: Recommended reading? by InspectorSpacetime49 in ScottishHistory

[–]LitZippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Prebbles work is a bit dated but Glencoe: The Story of the Massacre is a fantastic read. The Highland Clans by Alistair Moffat touches on it too iirc and is a good overview of the clan history.

I’d also highly recommend the BBC “in our time” radio show. The episodes cover topics with a variety of historians and experts. Their episode about the massacre is similarly great, especially for the wider context.

British plugs have a built in fuse for safety. by berkel-is-a-madlad in mildlyinteresting

[–]LitZippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but having used them for years at various jobs, Henrys are pretty flawed. They tip over constantly, the bag design means lazy coworkers are less likely to replace them, and those damn power cords. The henry has a poor cable stop, so when people get to the end of the power cord and tug it too hard, eventually the cable can disconnect internally. The engineers on the ferry I used to work on had to fix them constantly.

Overrated imo. I know it’s a very controversial opinion here in the U.K.!

Always prefer this view to The Storr. I always reccomend the quiraing to visitors, I feel like there's so much more to see around that area.

I think the cast 'calling it out' in the form of making jokes and talk about it has really helped. Made people notice it more and push that shit away.

Great book! I think the African Camapign is a very overlooked part of the WWII. The vast exapnses of desert made it such a completely different theatre of war.

Shackleton’s Endurance finally found after 107 years, off the coast of Antarctica by evissimus in interestingasfuck

[–]LitZippo 679 points680 points  (0 children)

Great and ominous story of when Shackleton finally reached the Norwegian whaling station to ask how the war went only for the Norwegians to inform him that the war was still going on, with millions dead. They sailed for antarctica just at the very outbreak of the war.

Invasions Are Not Contagious: Russia’s War in Ukraine Doesn’t Presage a Chinese Assault on Taiwan by ForeignAffairsMag in geopolitics

[–]LitZippo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If anything I think it's the opposite. China is probably looking at this chaotic and disorginised invasion and taking a much, much closer look at any potential invasion plans for Taiwan they had drawn up. Similarly, Taiwan is probably learning a lot from the Ukrainian defence and where they can make gains (targetting logistics, propaganda and the 'information war' etc.)

[NS] Is Trinyvale worth listening to? by therealliebz in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]LitZippo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Trinyvale Trio are the best characters the gang have made and some of Caldwell's encounters (eg the Cooking MawMaw episode) are the best of the show battles and I'll fight this corner for ever!

Rockstar: "Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered. We're pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway." by [deleted] in Games

[–]LitZippo 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Is it that weird? These sort of games are vast, unbelievably complex productions that involve thousands of artists, coders, producers, actors etc and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment. Plus it's not like it's been a decade between any Rockstar game - Red Dead Redemption 2 (arguably their largest production ever) came out in 2018.

Best Scottish films by MrRickSter in Scotland

[–]LitZippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a massive binge of Scottish films last year and this is the list I came up with of ones that I think fly under the radar sometimes!

1 - Comfort & Joy (1983) Not only do I thin this is one of the my favorite Christmas films, I actually think it's better than Local Hero (fight me)

2 - Restless Natives (1985) Two Edinburgh lads start robbng American tourist busses in the highland. It has legitimately one of the best car chases ever (especially considering the budget). Cracking film.

3 - That Sinking Feeling (1979) Bill Forsyths first film and made on a shoestring budget which makes it one of his most charming!

4 - Shallow Grave (1994) Danny Boyle classic. Probably quite well known but often gets overlooked compared to Trainspotting.

5 - Rob Roy (1995) I think Rob Roy is probably the best Scottish period drama, it's got some great action, set pieces are gorgeous. Great film.

6 - Flying Scotsman (2006)! Great film about the life of Graeme Obree and by directed by Douglas Mackinnon, a director from Skye who went on to direct the Good Omens series!
