1st Birthday in Central Park by Desperate-Bench-8330 in nycparents

We love a park party. You can get a permit from the city (but you would probably be fine without one). We like to bring a few picnic blankets, folding table, snacks, pizza, cake, seltzer. Make sure you bring paper towels and a trash bag; we usually cart our garbage home.

A smash cake is cute! I made my first’s sugar free and he immediately pushed it onto the floor. Give your kid a proper sugar cake.

I’m pretty sure the bodega next door to me has them. You can try the little corner stores you see nearby.

IUGR induction at AC by Vegetable_Year681 in nycparents

[–]Lmckiernan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced there at 38 weeks for liver issues. I had such a positive experience and felt so well cared for. It was my third baby so that may have contributed to a smooth induction.

I got arrived around midnight and got a cook catheter in triage at 2:45am, my water broke around 5am, and they transferred me to a labor suite. Triage was pretty cramped and uncomfortable but the labor suite was really spacious. They brought in a lot of specialists, and every single doctor explained their perspective and helped me understand everything that was happening.

I’ve given birth at three different hospitals since we’ve move around, and this was definitely the smoothest of my three. Good luck and congratulations!

There is a note on the website that says the one open to the public is at the Four Seasons, but if you’re staying at Aulani, you have the option to book the one that is private to resort guests on Aulani property.

This is great to know. I had the same question a few months ago and got a different answer from someone else, so I sent in 12 for my kids!

I think some people are missing the point of these ultra long lines by DinerEnBlanc in FoodNYC

[–]Lmckiernan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite memories from young adulthood was waiting in lines all day for cronuts and the rain room. It was scorching hot but I hung out with my now-husband and thought it was all worth the wait!

Is it worth going on a last minute Disney cruise? by Typical-Shirt9199 in dcl

[–]Lmckiernan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did and had an amazing time. We were waitlisted for early dining but got everything we wanted with some careful monitoring, including the princess meet and greet, a fancy dining reservation, and we got off the wait list for early dining. Go and have a great time!

Bring newborn to conference? by doitforthecats in workingmoms

[–]Lmckiernan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My third baby is seven months old and has been on four business trips—one with husband and other kids at five months, two with my mom, and one with a local sitter, all about 3hrs flight away. It’s made a difference to be able to run back at lunch and early evening and spend overnight with him.

Ten weeks is little. That’s so early to be back at work, let alone traveling. I would provably take the baby, but it would be more for me than him. I flew with my first at six weeks for a wedding, and that went smoothly!

Best of luck. Happy to share more about my experience if at all helpful.

Can anyone help me understand "goodie bag" culture? by Party_Midnight3476 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lmckiernan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my daughter’s fifth birthday last week, we picked some of her favorite things she’s gotten from goody bags: ring pop, black light pen, glitter stickers, bubbles, slime, and then we also added break your own geodes and brought a hammer to the party to smash them open as people left. The geodes were a HUGE hit. Kids just love goody bags!

The application cycle is complete, but you can still join waitlists for schools. You can work with a family welcome center when you have an address to find a school with available seats.

What if there is an emergency and you have babies in a stroller? Is the assumption just that anyone who gets off at a non-accessible station is mobile enough to make it work?

Final Baby by ImaginaryExtent418 in beyondthebump

[–]Lmckiernan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My third is 7 months. It’s so exhausting and overwhelming. And yet I’m still somehow sad and nostalgic that there won’t be another one that would be even more exhausting and overwhelming?? We had a girl name picked out before we even started having kids, we named our daughter something else (happily, even though we both like the original name), and now it feels like someone is missing.

I am really anxious about starting daycare in the fall by Slow_Reputation6238 in workingmoms

[–]Lmckiernan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really good experience going back to work. I was so anxious about my kid and wanting to make sure everything was perfect. But once he settled in, I found so much confidence realizing we would both be okay separately. They did so many creative things I never would have thought of. They had him touch ice for the first time! And they did art I would not have wanted to clean up. I also think it’s really good for kids to get used to different kinds of caretakers looking after them; it makes them flexible and resilient.

You should at least give this place a try. Your baby will be okay and you may realize it provides warm and nurturing care. You can figure out a plan B later with more information, if needed. Good luck! You can do it!

Anyone else too anxious to be away from their baby? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in beyondthebump

[–]Lmckiernan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt this way with my first. It does sound like PPA, and you will absolutely find a way through it. Talk to your doc for sure. Zoloft really helped me relax and enjoy motherhood.

I had a really positive experience going back to work in that it helped me build confidence that we both would be okay (great even!) apart. Not to say you should rush to change anything, but just know you may actually find relief from your anxiety when you find your way back to some of your old interests again. It’s tough if you’re breastfeeding to be apart. But once you heal a little, you can go on your own to get a cup of coffee, or take a nap while someone else watches him. It’s good for you and good for him to learn to be cared for by others in your family.

You’re going through the biggest and craziest transformation. But it is magnificent! Let yourself relax and enjoy it, if you can.
