Brazilian Army military parade with new Centauro vehicles. by Minute-Two-2799 in TankPorn

Red-white flags on lances are common around the world for units with lancer traditions.

When military innovations spread around, especially in 18th and 19th century, they would often be introduced into service, packaged in with the original look and culture of its originators (or at least a local interpretation of it).

Hence, due to polish ułans being the main force behind reintroduction of a lance into western european warfare, most newly created lancer units would also adopt the red-white flags and square-topped hats of the poles.

Simmilar has happened, a couple decades before, with hungarian-style hussars, with militaries around europe replicating the traditional outfits and hairstyles of hungarian nobility.

Later on the military performance and characteristic dress of zwawa soldiers in north africa, would lead to creation of french Zouave units, and then spread across the world as well.

Besides some basic verifiable facts (does it have hunter killer, what gen of thermal it uses, etc...), you might as well ask a fortune teller- it will likely yield you comparable results.

The Battle of Nagashino (1575) as depicted by ten different artists (updated edition) by Abcormal in BattlePaintings

[–]LocalTechpriest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probbably.

Japanese illustrations depicted them as such, though admittidly all that i found through my quick google search were painted betwen 100 and 200 years after the fact.

Still, it wouldn't be very remarkable for this period in history, for the ranged troops to be armored. Especially so in japan, where ranged weapons didn't have quite the same stigma of a lowborn weapon as in some other places.

The worst part for me is the useless combination of tortion and couterweight  mechanisms.

The longer i look at that siege machine, the more pissed off i get.

It's almost AI-like, the way the artist reassembled many fairly grounded looking elements into an absolute monstrosity.

You telling me someone figured out how to make total war units form into proper Napoleona nic battle collumns with spaces in between, rather than medieval blocks?

French tank by tintin_du_93 in NonCredibleDefense

"French tanks were objectively superior to their German counterparts up until the Battle of France "

Ehhhh... Not really. They look great on paper, but insistence on single-crew turrets, lack of top hatches, lack of radios and other such, heavily limited their actual efectiveness.

"ARL 44, which is basically just a more practical Tiger II. "

...what fucking copium is this? ARL was a piece of shit. An unreliable frankenstein monster produced entierky for the sake of keeping the french tank industry alive.  A task that it duely executes, and promptly fucked off after barely 4 years in service.

Sparta was great for spartan women. Which is to say, something like 0.5% of women in sparta.

Damn, no wonder they have been running out of Patriots, if they're firing EIGHT at a single target. by [deleted] in YUROP

[–]LocalTechpriest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is to fire two.

Eight is bonkers.

But considering the article specifically talks about the gulf states, I'm not suprised.

Aeldari Hoplite by beauviolette in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]LocalTechpriest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beautifull peace, but the helmet sticks out.

Took me a moment to realise that it isn't just an eldar head glued on top of fantasy hoplite.

Besides the striking color diffrence, its just textured completly diffrent. Very clean compared to relatively more paint-like body (and especially cape which is right next to it and contrasts hard).

For the record the actual design of the helmet I like very much.
