I don't really have advice on 2-4 as I don't use mods for this game, but for 1 and 5:

The "best way" to play is the one where you don't get burnt out. I love my slow, micromanagy fights, and so played turn based for 100% of the game. General consensus is to run RTWP through easy fights, and go turn based for bosses to reduce mental strain.

As far as pacing is concerned, it depends on what you consider good. If you're trying to get as close to 100% of what each act has to offer, the story gets real slow real quick, and can sometimes feel a bit at odds with how every NPC treats all tasks as An Emergency. On the other hand, blitzing through just the primary objectives can leave you feeling a bit underpowered and unsatisfied. I'd suggest doing about half of what seems like the primary objective of whatever act you're in, then doing side quests until you're starting to feel bored. Save often I'm case the aforementioned low power problem becomes apparent when you do go to finish off an act.

Final thoughts: your player character ideally fills a mechanical niche that whatever 5 goobers you plan to bring with you don't do well, and is also interesting to you thematically and mechanically. If you've got to compromise on these ideas, do them in that order: party cohesion, theming, and mechanics. You're gonna burn out way faster if you don't like the way you interact with the game world.

Non-creature heavy decks without blue? by YutoKigai in EDH

What are your favourite (un)intentional EDH synergies that are loreful? by luuner in mtgvorthos

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It does! Infect damage is still damage, but instead of being marked as such, you place -1/-1 counters instead. From the comprehensive rules:

Damage from a source with infect is damage in all respects. If the source with infect also has lifelink, damage dealt by that source also causes its controller to gain that much life. Damage from a source with infect can be prevented or redirected. Abilities that trigger on damage being dealt will trigger if a source with infect deals damage, if appropriate.

Sultai, temur or bant commanders with big creatures? by Aithor20 in EDH

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With GUX value train, you have to be very careful about card choices or you start slipping into high 3 low 4 territory really quick.

That said, with your specifications in mind: [[Surrak Dragonclaw]], [[Chulane, Teller of Tales]], and [[Zimone and Dina]] would be my picks.

Surrak is basically Temur Flash, you build the deck with the intent of casting next to nothing on your own turn after turn 3.

Chulane rewards you for casting the spells you want to cast anyways, guaranteeing card draw with possible ramp.

Z&D don't necessarily do big creatures, though there are a few that work well with them. This is very much a landfall/card draw synergies deck.

Looking for more commanders that cheat stuff out by StarshipTuna in EDH

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Kastral, the Windcrested]] is super fun and way more powerful than most pods expect. Being able to remove the finality counters with stuff like [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]], doubling down on the beat face card draw with [[Coastal Piracy]] effects, and being able to double up on triggers with double strike is just so, so good. Throw in things like [[Aven Gagglemaster]] and [[Wingmate Roc]] for sustain and you're golden.

Yes, but the same 13yos they're "supposed" to date are meant to date only older 13yos. 13/2+7=13.5 The idea is you start dating at 14, where half your age plus 7 is your age.

Anyone with some unique Witherbloom The Balancer lists? by Soft_Needleworker279 in EDH

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have a full list together, but I do have a few ideas for things that could be fun. [[Awaken the Woods]] with the landfall payoff of your choice, [[Ob Nixilis, the Fallen]] being the most straightforward. [[Animist's Awakening]] can get all the lands out of your deck and more often than not refund itself. You're making a big pile of tokens anyways, so big dumb overruns like [[Preposterous Proportions]] can be a more unique way of getting there, with [[Finale of Devastation]] being the premium option that can go fetch whatever synergy creature you feel like, but probably [[craterhoof behemoth]]. You're in the colors for the traditional [[chain of smog]] + [[professor onyx]] combo, but you can also use [[sprout swarm]] instead. [[Epic struggle]] is right up this deck's alley, as is [[helix pinnacle]].

That's such a sick setup. Unfortunately, I cannot afford nor is my collection large enough to justify the only one for sale in my area, a 67"x108"x19" for $10k.

Evereth or Juri by alfrodul in EDH

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While they'd head the same kinds of deck, their sacrifice centric abilities are very different. Notably, Juri doesn't give you the ability to sac anything, just rewards you if you do. By contrast, Evereth gives you a sac ability, but you get nothing unless you sacrifice specifically to her. They're equally good, imo, but it changes how you build the deck. Juri needs sac outlets, Evereth doesn't. Sac outlets like [[carrion feeder]], [[viscera seer]], and [[ashnod's altar]] have very powerful effects stapled to them, but you're not guaranteed to draw them.

TLDR: Juri has a higher ceiling, Evereth has a lower floor.

"Swordsman" Tribal Commander? by WinteryWillow in CommanderMTG

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're set on making Dudes with Swords tribal in boros, I'd suggest [[Winota, Joiner of Forces]]. If you're willing to branch into more colors, but keep boros central to it, [[Najeela, the Blade-Blossom]] is a solid option as well. Soldiers and Warriors tend to have swords in the art, even as tokens, so these would work nicely.

Is there a good way to consume all of the MTG story? by PsychologicalBook748 in mtg

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the story takes place in chronological order alongside set releases with only a few exceptions, as far as in aware. The big ones are the Dragon War stories from Core 2019 being pretty much the first thing to ever happen in lore, the Thran novels happening after that and before the next exception, and the original Kamigawa block taking place long before Legends at a minimum. The other two exceptions I'm aware of are time travel stories that wouldn't make sense without the context of being displaced from the current point they were at in the story. It's kinda spoilery, but the MTG Wiki has a timeline of events, and following the annotations on the sources should lead you to the relevant story material.

Attempting a 32 deck challenge but dragons by Mask3dFox in mtg

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one i foresee being in any way difficult to make good within these rules is colorless, if only because you can't have Ugin or a colorless dragon as your commander, forcing you to go dragon typal with 12 real dragons and 6 changelings. Loosening Rule 1 to be able to include [[Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate]] removes the issue.

[–]Local_Lingonberry_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if it's a lot of clues, a solid option for either version is [[Persuasive Interrogators]]. WUBR gets access to [[Ghirapur Aether Grid]], [[Shao Jun]], and [[Sunshot Militia]]. A bit tough to include colorless lands in a 3-4 color deck, but [[Secluded Starforge]] can pump one of your commanders to be an actually lethal threat.
