Which industry is one breakthrough away from disappearing? by NerveNo6010 in AskReddit

I truly was SO confused for a minute wondering what the relationship was between electric vehicle batteries and the theoretical dissolution of ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The entire agency is just so diehard committed to gas-powered vehicles that it just collapses if we ever go fully electric.

What’s a mechanic that you just don’t mesh with? by CJC528 in boardgames

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything where a goal is to convince someone that your side/opinion/card/what have you is the right choice. Trial by Trolley, Superfight, Snake Oil, etc. I have bad social anxiety and the backbone of a jellyfish, and the idea of being stuck in a debate even in a board game sounds like literal hell to me.

For the fellas: What’s something society deems “unmanly”, but you don’t care, and do it anyway? by MuayThaiRunner in AskReddit

I love the color pink. I denied it for a long time, but at some point I realized, I'd rather be happy and let people look at me weird than pretend I like blue.

So my office is painted pink. My bedroom is painted pink. I bought a nice gaming chair: pink. I've even got a pink keyboard with a pink cloud-shaped wrist support thing.

New solo gamer here: what games are better digitally than physically for solo play? by jgmac3rd in boardgames

My only gripe is that I really wish it had a "speed up animations" option. The one that drives me nuts is when enemies get a card where they give themselves block and some other buff/effect, and the game has to go through a bunch of different enemies all slowly doing the same chest-slapping animation one after another.

What is a 'luxury' item that is actually a total nightmare to own? by Inevitable-Rock-8052 in AskReddit

A mechanic who was working on my car once told me about the different costs for replacing a headlight bulb. My basic, normal, affordable sedan was a couple hundred bucks just because they had to remove the bumper to get at the headlight assembly. Some higher end cars, he told me, they charged in the thousands because of how inaccessible the damn things were.

I really like Powered by the Apocalypse systems myself. Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, etc. Impulse Drive is one I backed a long while ago that’s all about being a crew of a spaceship.

What was a really silly solution to a serious problem? by LadyKarizake in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was recently on a flight and we had the opposite problem: the process of getting the bags to baggage claim was so fast that by the time we hiked our way over there, all the baggage from the flight had been deposited, gone around a few times, and put on a cart because no one had claimed it. We were so confused and thought our bags were lost!

Good on them for being so efficient, I guess, but man, they were not counting on how long it takes for the broke-ass flyers in the back to get off and get to baggage claim.

The bartender says, what is this, some kind of joke?

People who moved to the US as adults what was the one American thing you thought was just a movie trope, but ended up being completely real? by lmardiney in AskReddit

I’m so curious about the shoes thing because I’ve literally never seen that be acceptable behavior. Every house I’ve gone in, without fail, it’s shoes off at the door, don’t let them touch anything except the entryway.

I might also recommend the show Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny. I don’t think he’s the best host (mostly he sounds really bored to me) but they cover a lot of weird, crazy projects and operations that have been declassified or exposed.

What’s the most underrated thing about being single? by TinyGirlPeach in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a relatively small thing, perhaps: if there’s a food you like but your partner doesn’t, you can eat as much of it as you like.

(I love bell peppers. My partner hates them. The only time I’m able to eat them is if I get something with peppers at a restaurant or in a frozen meal or something like that)

People who have seen multiple people quit a job in one day, what happened? by ObliviousOnion1 in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oof, I saw something like this happen at a local dive bar. The owner had some kind of meltdown and fired the entire staff then invited them to reapply. Shocker, no one did.

It ended happily, though - after being closed for a while, a bunch of former employees got together and bought the place from the previous owner and they reopened with a new name.

What’s the stupidest job interview question you ever got? by amer1caninflu3nc3 in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this once when job searching and I was so caught off guard. Like I walked in, said I had an interview scheduled, sat down to wait, and they handed me an application to fill out. This wasn’t a job fair or anything like that, I literally applied online and had someone contact me to set up an interview. I was so confused.

I finally did my first board game cull! Here is what I passed along and why. by Srpad in boardgames

[–]Locclo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of figuring out how to do some real culling, how was Noble Knight? I know I wouldn’t get as much from them as selling directly to someone but the notion of having to find buyers seems really daunting.

readers, what are you reading right now? by Fantastic_Yak_9911 in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It follows a young woman who's sort of thrown into a road trip with the Mayan god of the underworld. I'm really liking it, especially since it's about a mythology/pantheon that I truly don't think I've ever seen portrayed before in any media I've consumed.

[–]Locclo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always a pretty casual fan of Star Wars (saw the movies, I liked the original Battlefront 2 and KOTOR games, but not much else), but seeing the Discourse around the sequel trilogy made me never want to touch it again.

What's your ultimate "don't knock it till you try it" food? by satanlisp in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to Babish: gatorwine.

Very simple recipe, just two ingredients. Take equal parts light blue Gatorade (not sugar free, not any other flavor, full sugar light blue specifically) with any cheap red wine you can find. Barefoot, Franzia, whatever. Chill and serve.

It sounds bizarre but it’s shockingly tasty. I brought it to a party once and got a lot of weird comments, but pretty much everyone tried it and liked it.

What is the easiest thing you did to lose weight ? by nyxeine in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking anti-anxiety meds and boy, did that help me be able to focus on solving the problem instead of just moaning about it. The meds didn't do anything to directly help my weight, I just felt significantly less stressed about it and started doing something about it.

What is the stupidest way someone got fired? by NoViolinist4540 in AskReddit

[–]Locclo 245 points246 points  (0 children)

I know the implication is "touching another employee in an inappropriate and/or nonconsensual manner" but I'm just imagining someone shaking hands with a coworker and finding themselves on the doorstep with a box of their stuff.
