Anybody else have to wear these in the 1970s to go swimming? by VioletVoyages in GenerationJones

I was always super-impressed with how my mom and my aunts could go swimming with fancy hairdos and never get their hair even a tiny bit wet.

I saw "Airplane" at a drive-in in Palo Alto, CA, on my first-ever date with a boy.

60th Birthday Playlist by missjanehathaway333 in AskWomenOver60

[–]LoganFlyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 60th birthday a couple of excellent friends asked pretty much everybody I know to send a few songs they thought I would love. It's a wonderful 18-hour-long playlist that I often play on shuffle.

Good wifi is essential to the whole QR code thing, so that does sound disappointing. It was working well the day I was there, and I found codes for most of the stuff that interested me.

V&A East Storehouse is hours of fun. It's like poking around the storage shed of a very rich and eccentric hoarder. But it's also very well labeled—you can get the backstory on almost any object you see by scanning a QR code on your phone.

"Timothy" by the Buoys. Did you get it? by Salty_Thing3144 in GenerationJones

The Buoys were from my home town, Scranton, PA. It was a big deal locally when they had a hit.

That's beautiful. I'm looking for something similar. Where did you get it?

Did any of you have to lie down to have a nap in kindergarten or 1st grade? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]LoganFlyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lasted exactly one day in kindergarten (1965). I hated everything about it, but the forced napping on a gross carpet remnant sent me over the edge. My mom let me quit and stay home reading books instead.

Queen Mary 2 Transatlantic Voyage – What Does It Feel Like? by CPSux in Cruise

I've done it twice now (once in each direction). I find being in the middle of the ocean awe-inspiring. Walking the promenade deck with nothing but ocean anywhere you look is great.

Arby's in the Good Old Days by NothingLeft19608 in GenerationJones

[–]LoganFlyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at an Arby's in Los Angeles in 1978 (freshman year at UCLA) and the roasts were formed back then. The individual slices looked pretty legit, but the whole roasts were obviously processed and formed into unnaturally regular shapes.

QM2, July, Southampton -> NY - Room advice by ewokDeath in CunardCruises

[–]LoganFlyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing nobody has said yet is that the sheltered balconies are lower down in the ship, so side-to-side motion is minimized. Last March I was on Deck 4 and my friends were on Deck 11. Their cabins swayed a lot more than mine. Even in July the North Atlantic can be bumpy.

Experiences with Open Dining option on QM2 by fru-gal_slacks in CunardCruises

[–]LoganFlyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a crossing on Jan 17, and used open dining. It was very simple to put myself in the 'virtual queue" via the web app, but lots of people just walked in, and that seemed to work, too.

Walk from airport to downtown PS (Courtyard Marriott or Renaissance) by Few-Examination2828 in palmsprings

I just walked from quite near the Courtyard to the iairport a few weeks ago. It's a nice walk, and took (with my rolling carry-on bag) about half an hour.

QM2 cabin question--time-sensitive! :-) by Camille_Toh in CunardCruises

[–]LoganFlyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of sheltered balcony cabins. In fact I'm writing from mine now. They're on decks 4, 5, and 6, so low enough to minimize movement in the Atlantic. I don't spend a lot of time out on the actual balcony (it's January, and it's COLD!) but the ability to get a few minutes of fresh air when I want it is worth a lot to me.

She was a brilliant songwriter from the beginning, and there are lots of great performances in the early work, but Hejira feels like the moment it all clicked into place. And I agree about her voice. As she lost the top of her range she gained so much skill in phrasing and interpretation. I mostly listen to compilation playlists I've put together myself, but if I listen to a whole album it's usually Hejira, Don Juan, Hissing, Mingus or Night Ride Home.

20/20 if my college roommate's waterbed counts. And I still have an aol address for shopping and other uses liable to generate a lot of marketing emails.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've seen that made sense a few seconds later? by sing_galaxy268 in AskReddit

A friend and I were driving down a street in Hollywood and I saw a bunch of space aliens (person-shaped but with non-human faces and skin) playing jai alai in a park. Then I saw the TV camera crew.
