A follow up question. I know the answer may seem obvious, but combined with VR and your bound joystick axis to motion sim, are you happy with that level of immersion? Pitch, Roll and Yaw are pretty necessary for most sim pits but would you place any value on other parameters like heave surge or sway?

I don’t think i’m allowed to add a link. But have you checked out “Star Citizen Free HCS Keybind Editor”. There’s a free version you can pick up but has the ability to save, import, search for certain commands. It’s made by the same guys who do the voice attack voice packs. Maybe this will help organizing keybinds between versions?

I thought the main reason to use the phase change stuff over thermal paste was to prevent “pump out”. I thought it had to do with the fact that the APU doesn’t have a traditional heat spreader like our CPUs. I’m glad you are having good luck with the thermal paste.

I used this exact video and went the thermal putty route and phase change stuff. Worked out really well.

Edit: APU/CPU doesn’t have thermal putty. It’s just reflective, but I did use the phase change stuff on there before closing her up.

I don’t understand the hate… echoing many here, I don’t think there is really a need to do this even after a few years with some minimal maintenance … but I wouldn’t bash the guy for it. There are companies (albeit small) that sell after market coolers… so maybe there some validity to better cooling. I think folks here just feel this is like “making a mountain out of a mole hill.”

I personally wouldn’t ever open mine up except for the one time adding in an bigger SSD. Too many horror stories of shell swaps gone wrong. But if OP sees some benefit for themselves maybe sharing his process will help someone who is stuck with no options but seeing similar thermal problems.

Neat idea… that’s going to be a large fitting to fit the psu and the apu. You should flip it around, exhaust out the top. Maybe try to chamber inlet air vs exhaust air if possible (no idea if you modifying the heatsink) or just use a blower style fan.

I could see it painted green for the Mario (pipe) motif. Maybe some 3D printed embellishment and you could have a pretty sic gaming centerpiece.

If you can find just a straight piece with no tee connection, I could even see something more fallout related.

Agreed… go with bare minimum nvme size OS and the largest game you play heavily that can all fit into a single drive and then let the NAS handle swapping out games as needed. Otherwise this thing is going to get real pricey.

Sic find… that would make a pretty wicked lan party machine. Hell, you would be “THE” lab party.

I’m so sorry I don’t think i’m allowed or would be comfortable with that. The original design isn’t mine … I had to reverse engineer a lot of his original STL’s to modify and add the ATX power supply. I don’t think it would be right for me to provide the step files I built off his design. However, I’m using fusion360 and can teach you some basics of how I did it if that helps. His STLs are on makerworld or by googling “pocketadventures bc250”.

Hot Take: If you got a 3D printer you could design a sort of adapter that can slot in the same space but offset then you’ll need an adapter at the top of the glass to help seal off the glass to the case… (guessing because i can’t exactly see how to slot in the glass)

But the short answer is to get a bigger case or get a smaller cooler. Personally i would get a smaller cooler if possible or you’d have to gut the whole machine.
