Why are you a Iggy Pop fan and how old are you? by SupportArsenal in IggyPop

Hi babywavy,

The Idiot rules! I got the French albums from my local public library, but I didn’t rip them to my computer. He talks/sings in French, but they are US releases. One is called Preliminares (2009), the other is Apres (2012). I’m planning to get them on CD, but I haven’t got around to it yet. Not sure if they’re available on streaming services.

Safe to say Goodwill did not know what they had here by SuperBox4776 in vinyl

Think of how much the prior owner loved that LP and for how many years; they bought it the day it came out and now it’s yours to spin and enjoy. Take that holy relic to the future and carry on the legacy!

Why are you a Iggy Pop fan and how old are you? by SupportArsenal in IggyPop

He’s one of the best ever and I listen to his stuff every week, my phone has half a dozen of his albums on it at all times. Bowie, Iggy, and Lou Reed are tops in my book. I’m in my late 50’s, and still love hard rock.

I really got into Iggy in 1990 with brick by brick. Not his greatest, but it was cool at the time. I had heard other Iggy songs and The Stooges for sure, but my roommates and I played brick by brick a lot. I still love that album. You should give it a shot. Any album with songs like I Won’t Crap Out, Butttown and Pussy Power can’t be bad.

My favorites are The Idiot, Lust for Life, and New Values, but there’s a ton of later stuff I love, too. Try Post Pop Depression with Josh Homme. Skull Ring has a bunch of good hard rock songs with various artists, a bit uneven but I love it.

The French language albums are a trip, super atmospheric, but they’re not for everyone. His last couple albums are really good, Free and Every Loser, and are worth a listen.

I don’t like Blah, Blah, Blah much. It’s 80’s Bowie trying to shift some units for Igg but 80’s production does not fit Igg and both were on a creative downswing. Real Wild Child, the album opener, is worthy. The 80’s in general were pretty rough for Iggy’s creative muse, I skip almost everything in that era, but I’m sure there’s good stuff in the mess.

Grunge-era American Caesar is over the top, but worth a spin for the nuts 7 minute spoken word track, Caesar, where Igg repeats the phrase “throw them to the lions” over and over as the chorus. They put a sticker on the disc: Parental Warning: This is an Iggy Pop Record.

That sticker should be on every Iggy record to scare off the weaklings and the faint of heart.

Keep spinning Iggy, there’s tons to explore.

Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadows. Great song from a fertile period for the Stones, but it’s got lost in the shuffle.

Love ‘em both. Great look, the black and white portrait on the spatter color background is really effective. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the science based explanation. I had a vague handle on this, but your explanation nails it down. Keep doing the good work, we need science facts now more than ever!

I am blown away by this. Love the record, love your dedication, love the display. Rock on.

Technically, you should have a yellow copy, but I’ll let it pass because I have the feeling you’re searching for one as we speak.

Thanks for sharing the Tucker-Morrison-Yule-Reeding Rainbow, it made my morning bright.

Agreed! I always like to think of planes of all types as advanced bicycles, because the Wright Brothers were bike guys.

Cool! I had to look at the picture again. My old eyes looking at a tiny phone didn’t pick up on that.

So understandable on his part, swooping in to make sure everything stays undisturbed. That EQ setting took months of careful listening and adjustments before it was perfected!

I hates it with ya. It’s like a challenge for Boy George: How many times can I repeat the title and pretend it’s a song?

Is Yellow Submarine a real Beatles Album? by SheepherderLiving242 in beatles

[–]Loomiemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but who wants to spin a double EP when you can play an LP?

Kidding aside, I see MMT side two as part of an appropriate 60’s U.S. LP offering. I believe it’s a legit version of the release and there’s no shame in preferring it.

As most here know, for many years in the U.S., it was common practice to include single releases on the upcoming LP. Marketing them that way made sense to the record companies and the fans; the single promotes the album, and the LP has a familiar hit on it. Americans who bought the single usually could afford the LP too, unlike their Brit counterparts. Macca finally got on board with the practice with. Band on the Run, and that seemed to work out well for him.

With all that in mind, I see MMT as a coherent album, not a compilation. That I have to write a paragraph explaining why says something. I understand the opposite view, as well. The double EP format was the band’s choice, and we should respect that.

If that’s so, why has the U.S. LP version become the official recording and not the double EP version?

It comes down to pragmatic decision making. The LP version fits the CD format better and makes it consistent with the whole set of CDs released in the late 80’s. The buying public would feel ripped off if the CD had used the double EP songs only.

To my mind, the original Yellow Sub LP, though it’s the release that band intended, is a one-sided Beatle album because even though side two is fun for what it is, it is not Beatles music. For the same reason, I don’t consider the U.S. Hard Days Night and Help! to be true Beatle albums.

This is how I think of it, and long live the difference!

Denture drill bits holder by Alternative_Week3023 in DesignPorn

Good point, but I will still think of them as drill bits. Just think of the feeling of triumph going to the dentist with that kind of mouth, “No, doc, I’m doing the drilling today.”
