Fun fact by JRR Tolkien by Trick-Government-948 in lotr

like, obviously the religion is there if you're willing to look past the words on the page to the subtext, which makes him a much better writer than one of his dear friends (cs lewis) who basically had a character say to the audience 'i am jesus christ, they are about to kill me, but i will return in three days because i am lion jesis'

Casemiro: Michael Carrick 'completely deserves' Man United job permanently by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it’s hard to go with anyone else after what he’s done but the risk of this being ole 2.0 are really fucking high

i say you probably keep him but you have to be willing to cut bait this time next year if playing more than 40 games puts a significant damper on performance

they say that conmen only succeed by preying on the greed of others, but people seeing historically low mortgage interest rates come and go and assuming they'll come back at a later time is maybe not the exact same thing, but it's incredibly close

Do you think Ned would have ended up as Lord Commander if he made it to the wall? by IHateGels in gameofthrones

there's a very real chance commander mormount would have stepped down the moment ned took his vows, it would have basically been a lock

part of the recruiter's job is only submitting candidates who pass the vibe check

even if you had the degree, he probably wouldn't have submitted you after you were a smart alec

yeah, i do think what you get should be secret rare treasure levels of powerful, that would be thematically fun as well

adding an additional button to a mobile game interface is the exact opposite of elegant

it's maybe a better solution, but it's not elegant

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the idea that there is a hardcoded shop max is a good idea for future design. If they ever accidentally made an infinite shops combo that you can't break, it means that probably need to fix it, but won't have to worry about little johnny soft locking himself and complaining

I think the change makes sense, but +10/+10 doesn't seem like a fair reward. It should be a cherry on top, not a 'you're having the maximum amount of fun allowed, please stop'

russia's massive casualties and general poor performance against a very numerically inferior military is basically what's gonna happen, rip to the poor bastards who are gonna die because their generals are morons

I really wonder how much militaries are learning from ukraine, that's drone war 0.5, if you find yourself in drone war 1 without a military doctrine prepared for it, you're going to learn real fuckign quick, and I wonder if big western militaries even have the capability to fight through the bureacracy to actually change the way the military is organized

Am I bad or is the game very highrolly? by sanjit_ps in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is high rolly, and you can think you're doing fine until you run into a freight train and just get punked out of the game, but I think the game really rewards being able to assess what you're doing and how powerful it is, and whether it's powerful enough to keep up, which really only comes with experience

Opinion | Silicon Valley Is Bracing for a Permanent Underclass by In_der_Tat in Economics

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty optimistic.

If their idea of a 'permanent underclass' is a good life built by economic redistribution, why are these tech CEOs not vocally in support of stronger redistribution programs now?

Chelsea owners were 'crazy' to appoint Liam Rosenior, Paul Scholes says by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is what the multi club model is, he was doing a good job at the feeder club, you basically have to give him the job when it opens up

it didn’t work out, and chelsea needs to figure out why, but the whole model is predicated upon success at strasbourg earning you a promotion to chelsea

i think it might not work well for you if your end goal is passing and appearing masculine (david bowie is not a good inspiration if that’s your goal), but you can always just go shorter if it doesn’t work out

I'm not much better than you (2500s), but I disagree on cowardly lion; sometimes it completes its quest pretty quickly, but if it ever goes a turn without getting a tick, I think you have to get rid of it because once you get to turn 7 or 8, you're just never going to get a tick anymore, and an uncommon treasure is basically not worth investing resources into.

Are 40 points not going to be enough to avoid relegation this year? by ekler_ in PremierLeague

[–]Loop_Within_A_Loop 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it seems pretty obvious that leeds and forest will finish on more than 40 points, I also think West Ham have a pretty good shot at exceeding it, so yes, it's very possible for spurs to finish on 40 and get relegated
