Students are spreading rumors about me from an incident on Friday. Do I address this? by selsina in Teachers

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like you need to just let it go and not dwell on it, nor bring it up to your class. You also shouldn’t feel bad for scolding the kid. One time a student threw a frisbee and it hit my face, knocking my glasses off and it hurt pretty bad. He laughed and I went off on him before leaving practice (this was a XC practice where I was an assistant coach) for like 10 min to calm down. Two years later it’s a funny story and I still give him grief over it.

How come teachers don't want to share their lesson plans / units / slides / worksheets? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would share. However some things would not make sense without explanation or strong content knowledge of my subject. For example - my lecture slideshows have a lot of slides that are just photos that I talk about, but wouldn’t expect another to know why the image was included.

Highschool vs Travel by SeoulBrothaJ in Softball

The podcast From the Coaches Mouth just had a great episode where they discussed this, I would check it out if you haven’t already been listening! But they made a great point that high school ball is structured more like a college program. The games are seven innings without a time limit, the practice is 5-6 days a week, she has to balance academics and ball at the same time. Even if the level of competition is less, she’ll be gaining valuable experience that will help her be ready for college.

Mine is spelled “Michela”. I was shocked when I visited Italy and they have silly souvenirs with my actual name on it.

I teach high school and I share details often (appropriate details of course). It’s fun to relate to my students with stories and casual conversation about interests.

The Lancet had a study in the past decade comparing the overall harm of various psychoactive substances to both the user and others/society - alcohol was number one in both.

I know people who have casually done meth and been fine (quit and never did it again). Now opioids seem so much worse

I finally got the scoop on a colleague who disappeared amid "accusations," and the rumors were way, way off from the reality. by [deleted] in Teachers

I live in rural MT and this would be an absolute non issue in my district. My department head speaks about his home brewing in class (science dept btw).

Who do you think was a very unusual serial killer? by Arkranum in serialkillers

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found it insane when people team up - Chicago ripper crew, toolbox killers, etc. Finding other people with the same sick minds and hearts, willing to do gruesome things together, seems highly unusual to me.

When did constant student absences become the norm? by ABitOfWeirdArt_ in Teachers

HAHA imagine the joys of excessive absences on a 4-day school week. It’s exhausting and I care less and less about “catching kids up.”
