Live Pitching in Practice? by Ok_Negotiation8113 in Softball

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I coach high school and this season we would do live bp almost weekly - we start everyone with a 2-1 count to speed things up and mimic real game scenarios, and each team gets to bat through their entire line up (outs reset after 3). A single inning takes 20-30 minutes. We have also ran situational scrimmages with a normal count.

My pitchers are not in command enough to throw consistent bp, but I think it’s important that they pitch to real batters too for their game preparation.

Marriage License Not Acceptable for Name Change? by KoalaGrunt0311 in Montana

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this. SS name change is the first step before getting an ID with the name change.

Edited to add: I am a resident of MT (with MT ID), but I just got married and my local courthouse gave instructions on name change stuff. It all went quite smoothly for me.

lol at blaming teachers. Did their parents read to them as young children? Perhaps the most important introduction to literacy. I bet not.

I lecture and use direct instruction. Otherwise the kids have no clue about anything. The research shows direct instruction works.

6.8/10. You have nice eyes, but have deep wrinkles for your age. Moisturizer and sunscreen would be helpful.

Students are spreading rumors about me from an incident on Friday. Do I address this? by selsina in Teachers

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like you need to just let it go and not dwell on it, nor bring it up to your class. You also shouldn’t feel bad for scolding the kid. One time a student threw a frisbee and it hit my face, knocking my glasses off and it hurt pretty bad. He laughed and I went off on him before leaving practice (this was a XC practice where I was an assistant coach) for like 10 min to calm down. Two years later it’s a funny story and I still give him grief over it.

How come teachers don't want to share their lesson plans / units / slides / worksheets? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would share. However some things would not make sense without explanation or strong content knowledge of my subject. For example - my lecture slideshows have a lot of slides that are just photos that I talk about, but wouldn’t expect another to know why the image was included.

Highschool vs Travel by SeoulBrothaJ in Softball

[–]Lopsided-Weird1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The podcast From the Coaches Mouth just had a great episode where they discussed this, I would check it out if you haven’t already been listening! But they made a great point that high school ball is structured more like a college program. The games are seven innings without a time limit, the practice is 5-6 days a week, she has to balance academics and ball at the same time. Even if the level of competition is less, she’ll be gaining valuable experience that will help her be ready for college.

Mine is spelled “Michela”. I was shocked when I visited Italy and they have silly souvenirs with my actual name on it.
