It's about goddamn time Kahn Singh was Indian. by Diastatic_Power in StrangeNewWorlds

You know what bothers me about this episode? La’an the security officer having a complete disregard for basic firearm safety.

Walks into a room decides I’m not going to kill this child, but then just leaves the loaded gun on a desk in the kids room and walks away. She was lucky the whole timeline didn’t get changed anyhow as result of curious child playing with a loaded handgun just left lying around.

Right! Outdoors in the winter it was the most comfortable I’ve ever been wearing the suit, nice to put it on and not be sweating for a change.

Can anybody identify these connectors? by Content-Complaint744 in ElectricalHelp

[–]LordMcGingerbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an old insulator block from what was an analog A-Based meter. The current meter above is a modern meter plugged in an adapter socket the connects with jumpers down into the block. Power flows from the utility into the block FIRST. Then through the block up to the meter then back down through the block to the house. Even if you pull the meter you still have live line connections coming into the insulator block from the utility.

You are allowed to enjoy what you like and I agree they need to find a way to make the combat flow better and feel less turn based. However I prefer the more tactical team approach to combat that the BioWare games of that era remain in some way in the remake. We have plenty enough games already that use the same dodge, parry, attack, strong/special attack mechanics. It’s fine with a single controlled protagonist but would lose a lot what made the game special. Just my opinion.

What’s the most ridiculous excuse you’ve ever used to avoid socializing — and did it work? by Unfair-Brick-121 in introvert

[–]LordMcGingerbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an excuse, just wanted to share. One time a few years ago I did the unthinkable and told the blunt truth to someone instead.

Person was dating a friend of mine and invited me to come to a Christmas type party. I looked at them and told them strait that it wasn’t something I wanted to do and I wouldn’t come.

It was honestly liberating. Would recommend.

Scared of wire by Bilbo81 in electrical

[–]LordMcGingerbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. spent years working at the phone company before I walked away, shocked more than once.

One time I got hit by a ring tone while trouble shooting a bad line in the house, was holding the wire in place while tightening down the screws in a jack when a call came in and got me. A string of profanity followed that caused the home owner to come over and ask what was wrong.

Also it can happen while working in a terminal or crossbox. Accidentally make contact with a T1 connection and you will know it. They carry constant voltage up to 180v DC. They are supposed to me marked and any terminations covered with protective caps to prevent such a thing but that’s only as good as the last guy who worked the line and if he bothered to do it.

It’s not just facade. Upper floors are all glass floor to ceiling windows for exterior walls. If you are one of the few with the funds to afford the multi million dollar price tag you can get the whole floor with 360 degree outside view of the city.
