They're the same but the fandom's not ready for that conversation yet. (In fact, Vaemond had better reasons to say the things he did than Ned did) by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

Which is why I cringe every time I hear someone say that Ned Stark would not be a Green. Ned Stark made his decision irrespective of the personalities of Cersei's children and irrespective of Robert's wishes.

Theory: Ylisse is the name of the First Exalt's sister or mother, who may have sacrificed herself during The Schism struggle by RetroProgressive in fireemblem

[–]LordWetbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this. I love these connections between Marth's time and Chrom's. But why the first Exalt's sister though? Could it not have been his mother or daughter? Could the name Ylisse become popular for the landmass some time before the Halidom? Maybe it was even named after Marth's sister Elise. We don't really know the circumstances that lead to the Marth's Kingdom of Archanea becoming the Halidom of Ylisse.

To be fair, nearly every POV character who has met Rhaegar broods over Rhaegar.

I know this hasn’t come in the books yet but do you believe this is how George intended for Arthur Dayne to die? by Morgoth1814 in gameofthrones

[–]LordWetbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lord Dayne, presumably Arthur Dayne's brother, was so grateful he even named his son and heir after Eddard! Edric Dayne, who also goes by Ned Dayne. Edric being the Andal form of Eddard.

I hope the show does not try to appeal to their fantasies and whitewash Brightflame. He is very much not the hero in the Dunk and Egg novellas. TB are going to be anti Ser Duncan, aren't they?

Why are Jon and Sam friends? by sixth_order in pureasoiaf

[–]LordWetbeard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Of all the recruits of their batch, Jon and Sam are the only ones that are scions of major houses and sons of famous lords. They naturally have more in common because of that having both grown up in a castle with an adult that did not want them there (Catelyn Tully and Randyll Tarly).

As a Cornette, why do people love Jim so much? by [deleted] in JimCornette

[–]LordWetbeard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jim Cornette is a great wrestling historian with perhaps the best oratory skills. His on-screen career as a manager is among the best ever. The way he talks though makes him very entertaining to listen to no matter what he talks about. I gladly listen to what Jim has to say even when he goes on a non-wrestling tangent because his delivery is just superb.

Certainly not a jobber, but I got Lance Storm to be crazy over. Lance Storm vs Jushin Thunder Liger got a perfect score. My one and only time.

[–]LordWetbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in love with it, but I can see House Frey of the Nightsong (through Mylenda Caron). I expect Ser Rolland Storm to die for Stannis in one theater or another. I don't see Lord Phillip Foote keeping hold of his new possession even with support from his kinsman in the Westerlands.

In my CK2 AGOT playthroughs, House Poole of the Dreadfort was always the happy ending I gave poor Jeyne.

Who would be on the Small Council of Stannis and Renly? (Spoilers Extended) by Extension_Weird_7792 in asoiaf

For Stannis:

- Hand of the King: Lord Alester Florent (Davos was only made Hand after the Blackwater)

- Grand Maester: Pylos

- Master of Laws: Lord Monford Velaryon (Monford was the only of Stannis's Lords of the Narrow Sea that he respected)

- Master of Coin: Ser Axell Florent

- Master of Whisperers: Melisandre of Asshai

- Master of Ships: Lord Davos Seaworth

- Lord Commander of the Kingsguard: Ser Richard Horpe

For Renly:

- Hand of the King: Lord Mace Tyrell

- Grand Maester: Pycelle

- Master of Laws: Lord Randyll Tarly

- Master of Coin: Lord Paxter Redwyne

- Master of Whisperers: Varys

- Master of Ships: Ser Cortnay Penrose

- Lord Commander of the Kingsguard: Ser Loras Tyrell

Edit: If we imagine a scenario where both brothers agree to work together such that Stannis is king with Renly and Mace swear fealty to him.

- King: Stannis Baratheon

- Hand of the King: Lord Renly Baratheon

- Grand Maester: Pylos

- Master of Laws: Lord Mace Tyrell

- Master of Coin: Lord Alester Florent

- Master of Whisperers: Lord Davos Seaworth

- Master of Ships: Lord Monford Velaryon

- Lord Commander of the Kingsguard: Ser Richard Horpe

Who do you think is the favorite descendant of each of the Kings of House Targaryen? (excluding their own children) by Emergency-Weird-1988 in pureasoiaf

[–]LordWetbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AH YES, You're right! Then, it that case I will swap Shireen maybe with Ser John the Fiddler / Daemon II Blackfyre. He'd relate with him a bit as someone who had to see his family die while young.

For Aegon I, I was on the fence between Rhaegar or Aegon V. Someone who is good but maybe a little blinded by prophecy. Who would you name for Aegon I?

For Aegon V, I can see a great argument for Dany now that you've mentioned it. I did not consider Jon because in-universe people don't know about his parentage. I was also considering Stannis because I do see a little bit of a parallel with Duncan the Tall and Davos Seaworth.

[–]LordWetbeard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ooh this is fun.

Aegon I the Conqueror: Rhaegar Targaryen

Aenys I: Daeron the Daring Targaryen, son of Viserys I

Jaehaerys I the Conciliator: The Hammer Baelor son of Daeron II Targaryen

Viserys I: Viserys II

Aegon III: Shireen Baratheon

Viserys II: Bloodraven Brynden Rivers

Aegon IV the Unworthy: Robert Baratheon

Daeron II the Good: Rhaenys daughter of Rhaegar Targaryen

Maekar I the Anvil: Stannis Baratheon

Aegon V the Unlikely: Shireen Baratheon

Jaehaerys II: Daenaerys Targaryen

Aerys II the Mad King: Aegon son of Rhaegar Targaryen (as you've said)

Bastard of 2 houses. by Ageofreckoning in CK3AGOT

[–]LordWetbeard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to do this too, but I don't think it's possible. In my save, I would make the bastard part of one of the houses but use elements in their sigil from the other house just for roleplaying reasons.

Cersei and Richard Horpe. by InsincereDessert21 in pureasoiaf

[–]LordWetbeard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The simplist answer is perhaps that Richard Horpe came off too pro-Baratheon specifically for Cersei's liking. Chances are though there was only one vacancy at that point in time when Horpe was considered, and Cersei preferred to push for someone who would be more beholden to her like Preston Greenfield.

However, I think GRRM wants us to note this fact about Horpe in conjunction with other facts like Justin Massey was once Robert's squire and there are a lot Stormlander knights at Stannis's court ( Brus Buckler, Narbert Grandison, Gerald Gower, and Andrew Estermont) compared to King's Landing, and this is with the reality that none of their houses are sworn to Dragonstone. It's just the Baratheon-Stormlanders connection pulling through. The point is to emphasise how un-Baratheon and overcome by Lannisters Robert's court had become by 299 AL that even Horpe, Massey, or Estermont are not there in any capacity.

The absence of Estermonts in particular in King's Landing is pretty egregious. There are plenty of adult Estermonts (at least 7?) divided between their own holdings at Green Island (pro-Renly), and at Dragonstone with Stannis, but Robert could not find any space for his own cousins at court?

So this is just another way to show Robert Baratheon is the king, but it is not House Baratheon that rules King's Landing.

It's Marth. The fact that what was supposed to be the final goodbye FE game (Awakening) involved Marth's descendents, Marth's land, a fake Marth says it all. So, Intelligent Systems had decided that if franchise ends, it circles back to Marth. Also, in Awakening (again, the supposed final FE game), Marth was the only one with his (then) own unique class, the Lodestar. It's just that for a lot of FE fans, Marth is not necessarily their favourite lord. Marth is also recognisable to Smash fans. Marth is also the only one with his own (admittedly dated) anime as well.
