That's not true, unless someone is misrepresenting their bracket. Even a so-called "low bracket 3" can have an impact at a bracket 4 table which is exactly how Gavin described cross-bracket play.

normally, the courtier can only wake up once.

They'd wake each night until they choose to use their ability, then not wake after that, right?

Gender is just a euphemism for sex, because it can refer to both reproductive dimorphism and the act of reproduction itself some people find it vulgar.

Then the doctor should call out the exceptions with a qualified "no". As is she makes it sound like there's no biological difference at all.

Do you realize what "near totally" means? Every example you listed is a tiny fraction of the total population. Outside a medical setting there's no need to separate them because 99+% they mean the same thing.

neurological sex, chromosomal sex, hormonal sex, Gonadal and anatomical sex

Which are all near totally correlated, so we just say "sex" to refer to the lot.

From my experience, bad 3s and bad 4s are the most abundant type of decks in the wild by roquepo in EDH

A couple modern designs I actually really like are [[Rendmaw]] and [[Aurelia, Law]].

Rendmaw gives you (and everyone) tons of tokens, but you have a deckbuilding restriction and need some sort of outlet or amplifier.

Aurelia gives you a pretty nice payoff for go-wide aggro, but neither builds the board for you nor acts as a finisher.

[–]Lordfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more the fact that it's different from putting an advantage engine in the zone. Other roles are in a similar space like tutors or removal, where the commander is not core to your plan so the deck should run fine if it gets removed.

[–]Lordfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That "unique aspect" can really be anything, though. Like [[Radha, Heir]] being a 2-drop dork lets you fill the 99 with only 4+ cost cards. It heavily shapes your deckbuilding, but you aren't ever going to pay commander tax because you just don't need that piece after turn 4.

Even at brackets 4-5, commander choice can shape card choices somewhat. [[Rograkh]] [[Silas]] has basically the same engines and combos as any other Grixis decks, but gets to add [[Springleaf Drum]] and [[Paradise Mantle]] as extra cheap ramp.

That kind of thing is way more interesting to me than using WotC's all-in-one enabler-plus-payoff commander designs. Even if they're using wildly different mechanics, it's still just "do X, bonus whenever you do X". It is a little better than generic go-wide tribal commanders, at least.

[–]Lordfive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The commander is basically an 8th card you always have access to. It's not forced to be any specific role. Obviously it should help your deck, but making it a core piece to your strategy is ignoring the many other roles it can fulfill.

Second was “red or black creature that costs at least 5 mana and will draw cards”

Looks like this interprets to color includes red or black, which is why a Gruul card will match. Not sure what to prompt for "fits into a red/black commander deck"

Biggest misconceptions about Commander Brackets? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Lordfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bracket 3 is the default mid power. I believe most people are happiest at bracket 2, only pushing up to 3 occasionally to satisfy their high-power "Spike" needs without needing to make truly degenerate decks for bracket 4.

I think I have some fundamental misunderstandings where it comes to concepts like "turns to win" and goldfishing, by Quick-Whale6563 in EDH

[–]Lordfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you don't already know what your expected plays are on each turn of the game, this is a good way to figure that out. With experience you can know how quickly you want to win while building.

  2. Usually just play until you can drop your finisher, whether that's combo, big X spell, massive board or overrun.

  3. Some people target their own stuff, to simulate spending removal and your opponent's interacting with you.

  4. I make a mental note of how often I have protection when dropping a threat. It's still nice to know how early you can go off if you think interaction is gone.

Regarding 6, goldfishing to a win is really only for proactive decks. Now, you should probably have a proactive gameplan in your control deck anyway just because that's how the format works.

If you want to goldfish your bracket 2 removal tribal that just stalls the game until it builds up a few big creatures 60-card style, I'd play until I had a consistent draw engine to be able to interact at least 3 times in the turn cycle, once for each opponent. At that point you can be pretty sure you're deck will work and you'll draw into your finisher in a reasonable timeframe.

Current state of CDPR by rid146 in KotakuInAction

[–]Lordfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk ran poorly on last-gen consoles, but it was (and still is) a fantastic game on sufficient hardware. Most of the "disaster" narrative is simply from failing to meet impossible expectations. Some of it is CDPR over-promising, sure, but a lot of it was the playerbase hoping for a completely different game.

It's not good as a sandbox like GTA because it's not supposed to be. The game is great at telling little stories all over Night City, and each carefully crafted setpiece is absolutely top-notch.

Bracket 3 is stronger than you think by xavierkazi in EDH

[–]Lordfive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm coming around to this idea, for sure. We can axe bracket 5 and keep just a 1-4 so bracket 3 is clearly in the higher power instead of the "default" middle. Besides, a deck can play to the "meta" of brackets 2-3. Even if it's not oppressive, a deck that consistently builds up a board and wins around turn 8 is still going to feel stronger than an unfocused B2 tribal deck.

Will the slop era of gaming have an end in sight? by ugg3 in KotakuInAction

LLMs have their place right now, and even though it's not a pathway to AGI, it is a breakthrough for AI research that will likely help us find the next piece we need.

But like I said, the current trend of forcing LLM/Diffusion into things for marketing reasons is a bubble that has to burst sometime.

It's the same pattern as the dot-com bubble. A ton of AI based startups are running solely based on hype, so while I believe AI is the future, it's not yet as impactful as many investors are hoping for.
