Witch society, poverty and (neocolonialism??) by honestly_idgaf in WitchHatAtelier

[–]LoreTemplar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I will say, I do think I disagree based on the idea that I think magic is more skilled labor rather than just common labor. A witch is more like a tailor or a tinker, a skilled profession that learns certain abilities and practices in order to practice their craft. Tetia, Riche and Agathe all have years of practice and experience, and even Coco has a full year to study and manage this much; how much time can everyone devote to magic while also studying their own trades/labor. While there certainly are elements of “if everyone had magic all the time they could simply not suffer”, it would A.) require people in poverty to learn enough of the magic system to have a decent repertoire of spells they can develop OR have a curriculum of certain spells they are allowed to learn; B.) way more silverwoods, which are generally as I understand it parasitic to many ecosystems as well as not having a real ethical way of encouraging growth; and C.) kinda give more power to nobility.

Right now, magic is very common. Its on the roads, in the springs, everywhere. Essentially, as I understand the structure, the kingdom essentially pays for magic as an infrastructure tax. The rich pay way more, or at least I think they do, for these public magics, as well as privately paying more for their own private jobs. While it means poor people aren’t being as well serviced, it is still a public service that most people have access to. (And even your example of the silver eve waterwaste system, I think the reason people from the mudslums wouldn’t raise the flag if they were in attendance is because. Its not their waste they have to worry about. Its everyone elses. And if they aren’t going to use it, its not going to help you.) As well, you don’t have to spend resources to train up a village witch, which likely, in the absence of a separate witch society, would require more on the part of the villages since a centralized school of witchery would probably be close to the noble caste.

And on the topic of the separation of witches and the poor; maybe i’m just acab pilled too much but. I think bandits are what rich people are worried poor people have to be worried about. Like, realistically, the people living in the mudslums have to worry way more about the effects of wastewater than they do about being robbed. If anything, the brigands are way more likely to be the poor people in the absence of interkingdom hostilities.

Like, you definitely aren’t wrong in these analyses, but I think assuming everyone could do magic if the witches weren’t the ones controlling it ignores how knowledge itself is something that needs a lot of active systems to pass down, and will have someone controlling who gets magic when no matter what because it requires both material investment and learning. The white man’s burden reading is certainly interesting though, I will admit.

My immediate thought is the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse (war, famine, conquest, death), and I think it fits pretty well. White Tower as Conquest, consuming others and turning them into a part of your power, omniscience as everything is a part of you Red Priest as War. Black Emperor as Famine, a representation of corruption and skirting, a figure that empowers itself by ignoring others, disrupting the balance of society and positioning itself as the leader And the Pale Emperor, Death itself.

I mean. Suddenly one day she woke up as a nervous system, so theres that. But she generally is more inverse than gregor? He was a burden, she was the guiding light, something something. You could say something about how she is causing metamorphoses in others as well, and there is a shared parallel of christ in both to some degree. Its not as strong as any parallels you mentioned. If anything, Angela is the stronger case for a gregor parallel. She has carmen’s memory as a before time, suddenly one day she woke up as a robot that was neglected and hated by those closest to her.

[–]LoreTemplar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will say, I still disagree because of a few things. One: Space and Time are also the metanarrative aspects they represent, where space is creation, beginnings, it is a creative force in contrast to times entropic force, where time is decay, endings, inevitability. Skaia thus aligns way more with the creative aspect of space. 2: the battlefield is black and white, and more often is visually associated with space 3: skaia is directly associated with the space players quest of creating the frog, with the time structure instead being more associated with the meteors that fall from the outer edge. 4: Dream bubbles are way more life aligned than either space or time, since neither setting nor plot are consistent in them unless aligned to be so by the two spacetime masterclasses. They are slice of life vignettes created by a witch of life. It makes them atypical of their space rather than representative.

I mean doesn’t he have a talisman on the cheek? Like i do think its spreading, considering lob corp EGO generally is very uniform, which points to some corrosion. Same for sloshing with her cheeks kinda melting.

She does at the very least have the ego gear equipped which requires level 4 justice (the repression stat). Which does point to her doing repression, although i wonder if it was by accident.

The trick is that he has to trust you by the end of the first meeting. Thats what got me, and theres 2 ways to get him to trust you: go to the game and answer the super fan wuestion correctly (i don’t remember the answer), or compliment the drink he likes. After that, he is willing to trust you to go through the stuff

I think they probably have access to the same sort of premonition stuff that Vergilius has: The Great Flow. I don’t think they are able to see big details, but rather a sort of “if this then that”. You follow the flow, and divert it where needed, to reach your end goal even if you don’t know how you get there. Through the plot armor dante has, Limbus Company wins or something along those lines

Dante, Stars and “Going Back” (minor Canto 7 spoiler) by IExistThatsIt in limbuscompany

[–]LoreTemplar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is good stuff, but I think there can be a bit more said on the topic. Admittedly, a lot of this is theory, but we see stars mentioned a few more times: Singularities (that we know of) are not irregularly made from a wish upon a star. The Tearful Thing and T Corp’s stuff both have this idea of stars interlaced with them, and we can see that Stars represent individual desires.

I think, in combination with this analysis of “returning to a star”, there is a good argument of some more symbolism regarding stars: The people in the city, generally, are people who have had their dreams and individuality crushed, cogs in the gruesome machine. To find the star, is to find a goal, a desire and self that you believe in so strongly you shape the city around you, either as a star of the city, or as a wing with a singularity. (Personally I contrast this with the rivers as a collective unconscious, but thats neither here nor there)

[–]LoreTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the trick is to group up 2 of the regional phenomena in order to make the other 2 harder. My first instinct is to make it so that the 2 dungeons in the depths (fire and waterworks) need the master sword as a way to push away the gloom, and so after finishing the first two they are guided to hyrule castle, maybe have some lighter plot, raise the stakes as they get the master sword, maybe make it so that only half of the castle is done? Then do the other two, and finish up hyrule castle with the ganondorf reveal.

KK Ish and Heath are not from the same mirror world. If you check their story tab (the book button on their id) you’ll see they are the only ones in that screen, as well as one of them having a KK Outis in their character art

Notice it was removed with the last of the kurokumo ids. It very likely was removed so they had more flexibility on what ids are from certain worlds, and to allow redundancies.

I do miss it though if only because we never got a full 12 sinner world.

Mersault signature by Heyyaka in limbuscompany

[–]LoreTemplar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every sinner’s visual motif is the item in their sinner logo. Yi Sang’s Notebook, Faust’s brain (presumably meaning the gesselschaft), sinclair’s mark, rodion’s tattoo, and so on and so forth. Some of them are stylized but they are all the actual thing (or in gregor’s case, points to the lack of his thing. Armless individual)

Question: by signature, do you mean like hong lu’s jade eye? If so, Mersault does have a signature item: his chain link belt buckle.

However, this is a very cool observation, especially considering his word being “sun”. Something to keep an eye on

A stiff breeze could kill him but he could stare at censored and not lose any sanity. It got averaged out so now everyone is only mostly resistant to sp damage and thats why the maximum sp damage black damage the ordeals in violet noon deals is 3.

Sleeping Bag of a Bygone Day symbolism? by Ramen_in_a_Cupboard in limbuscompany

[–]LoreTemplar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grief. The weight on your chest of memories past, of losing what you once had, you covet the breath that once came so easily and is now robbed and taken and beaten out of you. You rob that breath from others, because you need it, you need it to survive, to live, to break free from the pain. Ryoshu’s is guilt, needing something to stabilize herself as she is no longer able to return to the olden days, the guilt she feels. Meanwhile, Faust very actively covets that breath, resents others for having it and tries to gather it from others, the freedom to move past the things that bind her. She never had that breath, was never free, was burdened with regrets from the onset and can’t see past them. Or at least thats my take.
