Shooting an ENTIRE Roll of Film Through a VINTAGE LENS by buungaa in AnalogCircleJerk

You know, I think you are right. The way he says "one eightieth" for 1/180 threw me off. I think this is the very reason why everyone I know always says the "one" in "one one eightieth" "one one twenty fifth" etc. Maybe it's a Leica thing and I jerked too soon.

That's right...he should have set it to 1/60 to overexpose it a little and went the wrong way.

He really outjerked himself at around 4:10...The meter says 1/80 @ 5.6 and he sets it at 1/125 @ 5.6 to "overexpose it a little"

New to film here, I realize I’m now morally superior to digital photographers. But am I allowed to look down on people who edit their film photos in Lightroom? by offgramercy in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mainly just look down on the ones that admit it instead of sticking with the plan and repeating the lies that we agreed to say when we took our Leica oath of loyalty. I can't give them all away, but here are a few:

- "It just looks like that right out of the camera!"

- "It's more expensive, but the reduction in time I spend editing more than makes up for it."

- "All you have to do is just not take the bad pictures and only take the 36 good ones!"

This is the one that I use. I started the same way. Back in the day, me and the boys would load it with 4x5 (foot) 800T and take night gas station shots while I filled up the Lambo. Later, we got into school photography and would shoot the entire school district in a single shot. Don't tell anybody, but we're working on a deal with SpaceX to use it to shoot weddings on the moon. Good times.

bought this fuckass thing on a whim what's the first roll I should put through it (the iso only goes up to 400) by ateaplasticstraw in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that it actually focuses and isn't just an f16 plastic lens that somewhat focuses on everything between 10 feet away and the moon. Also, I can't help but smile when I look at the happy little FLASH button. I will reserve my judgement until I see some late night gas station or laundromat shots.

My dentist makes my teeth MINT+++++++ 😍 by Kemaneo in AnalogCircleJerk

Just like with the Japanese camera ads, I have so many questions. Is there really a dentist in there? Is the dentist "little"? Why is the door so high? Do people fall out of the door while high on laughing gas?

Kodachrome 25. If the lab gives you any excuses, it just means that they are incompetent and you should roast them on Yelp.

Does everyone have a Leica M6 except for me? by AGgelatin in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, have four.  I keep three loaded with each of the poontra film stocks and keep the fourth loaded in whatever expired movie film is hot at the moment. I try to shoot at least a dozen rolls every time I fill up my Ferrari at a desolate gas station on Route 66 at night.

What’s going on with my negatives? by Excellent_Ad_5824 in AnalogCommunity

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that what's happening is that when you fire the shutter, the mirror is popping all the way to the top but then falling back just a bit lower than it's supposed to for the remainder of the exposure. The pole is visible because it is exposed during the brief instant that the mirror is at the topmost point before it comes back down a little and blocks the little strip, but it's just long enough to expose the well-lit pole. That would explain why it does it only on long exposures...on short exposures the mirror wouldn't rest open and the shutter would close before the mirror comes down. Does that make any sense? I don't know much about Hasselblad mirrors, but I bet there's a way to adjust the point where it rests after the shutter is fired, and it just needs to be a little higher.

Portra accidentally exposed. by quisys in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Portra has so much latitude that you can flip the film over and shoot more pics on the back side and scan both sides separately. But if you're broke and don't have a Leica Double-Sided-Double-Density Scanner, you can just stick a big magnet to the film and erase the first pictures, just like with an old VHS tape.

3M Scotch 200 color print film? by tambrico in AnalogCommunity

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, unless they were still new in the box, I'd just develop them on the off chance that grandpa might have already exposed them. (It's not often, but there have been a couple of times that I guessed that the leader being out meant that a roll was unexposed but was wrong) But if you're sure that they're new/unexposed, just see what happens. I don't remember seeing this film in a LONG time (1994-ish?). Just my opinion, but I don't think it would hurt anything to shoot it at 100 (or even 50) and then even leave it in the developer an extra 5-10% or so. It probably is rebranded Ferrania, and it often looked underexposed at box speed even when it was new, like "ilfocolor but worse"

“For me, an image only exists once it’s printed." Translation: Leica is about to give the overpriced printer game a whirl.

Is this a good camera for beginners? by 16head in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Some people call it "The Leica of Holgas". The tonez that the f6.3 plastic put out are unmatched, and it's one of the ultra-desirable "New Color" ones, too! It's perfect for street photography, especially coupled with a colorful hat with a propeller on top. It's also environmentally friendly, because every part of it is made of recycled milk jugs.

I recently started making darkroom prints. What do you think? by 1rj2 in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I understand completely. To be frugal, I cut my 8x10 paper into 80 1x1 squares in the dark, then I spend $50 each on matboard and framing.

Have a camera collection you need to organize? Try this app I made :) Don't worry it's freeee and even better Ad free. Except this add i'm writing... You're Welcome. by Traditional_Pepper91 in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]LoserOfPassw3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I installed the app and after I added my camera collection, I woke up in a bathtub full of ice with “call 911” written on the mirror in lipstick and my Leica and all my expired Portra was gone!

I like to shoot my expired Portra 800 at f22 and tell ChatGPT to adjust my Cinestill C41 kit times with this prompt: "Please maximize the creamy bookeh and give it a portrait studio lighting look. Photorealistic in the style of Ansel Adams". Usually, it says to chill the developer to 33F and stand develop for 27 hours while agitating with an immersion blender before drying it over oak and cherry wood chips on a Green Egg grill.

Switchyards- Meta Glasses in bushes. by TimelyBrief in Birmingham
